Update: TODO list for Better Comments Manager. Thanks to Arpit for the suggestion.
Add AJAX support to the reply to comments from Better Comments Manager PluginThis will be released in version 1.1 Version 1.2 is now available and it includes support which allows you to reply to the comments without loading a new page. Also shows posts title instead of the view link. You can get it here.
I switched to Wordpress about a month ago from Joomla and I absolutely love it. While I was using Joomla I used to create customized mambots, modules and components for my site. Now its turn to give all wordpress users a new plugin.
After the move to Wordpress I had started getting quite a few comments and to reply to them I had to always visit the post and reply from the comments form. This started to become more painful as I wanted to reply to all comments but they were across multiple posts and this made my task of replying to comments a bit difficult.
Then it came across to me that why not have a plugin where I could simply reply to the post from within the comment managing screen, that’s when the idea for Better Comments Manager came to my mind.
I am proud to release my first Wordpress plugin to all users. Hope you like it and can put it to good use.
What is Better Comments Manager?
Better Comments Manager is an extension of the default Wordpress comments manager. I have added two new features to the default Wordpress Comments Manager.
- Reply to comment from within Wordpress Admin Panel.
- View All Comments based by posts.
Ok so you don’t notice anything different than the default comment manager, have a look at this image
Now you see in addition to the normal tasks for a comment, there are two new links one which says Reply and another which says View all.
Features Explained
1. Reply to comment from within Wordpress Admin Panel.
The title says it all, you can reply to every individual comment from within the Wordpress Admin so you do not have to go to individual posts to reply to comments.
Here are few screens which take you through the Reply to comments feature.
Clicking on reply links takes you to a page where you can reply to the comment.
Just enter your reply for the comment and click on Reply to Comment. That’s it the comment will now appear on the post and you didn’t even have to visit the individual post to reply to the user.
Now isn’t this a handy feature. This definitely helps me to interact much better with my readers.
2. View All Comments based by posts.
This is a goodie which I thought should be a part of this plugin, it simply lets you view all the comments based on a particular post. So if you want to see the reactions for a particular post only then you can simply click the View All link in the Better Comments Manager.
This feature helps me track all comments for a particular post and makes organizing comments more better.
Installation
Installation is simple. Just unzip the “better-comments-manager” folder into your plugins folder and activate the plugin. From there, you and your users should be able to edit comments you should be able to edit comments and interact better with your users.
Requirements
Wordpress 2.x and above
Usage
Once you are logged into the Wordpress admin panel, clicking on Comments link will show a sub menu called Better Comments Manager, clicking on that link will allow you to use the features described above.

I have installed this plugin with Wordpress 2x but when I reply to a comment, it doesn’t show up at all…please advise–thanks!
I am having the same issue.

great idea
Hey Arpit,
Thanks for you suggestion, I would definitely incorporate this in the next release.
Thanks
Keith
Hey nice plug-in, will definitely use it. I was actually searching for a plugin which can comment from the admin panel. Thanks again
Hey Nirmal,
Glad you liked it, I am using the same plugin to reply to your right now.
Cheers
Keith
Great job on the plugin! This is definitely one must have… just a suggestion, if you can hit the reply button and load the form on the same page instead of a new page, then it will be cooler
just testing the reply.
Hi Ajay,
Glad you liked the plugin, Yes I will be releasing a update on this sometime mid week which will allow you to reply from within the page itself.
Thanks
Keith
Nice…
I’ve been looking for a plugin like this! Thanks so much!
Hey Best Airmiles,
Glad you like the plugin
Keith
I have been looking for something like this forever! Thanks for building it…
I do have an error code that generates when I submit a comment from your reply screen. The comment gets saved and appears correctly on the site but the error pops up and does not send me back to the comments screen.
Here’s the error:
Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/jester/public_html/wp-admin/admin-header.php:16) in /home/jester/public_html/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 275
Any ideas?
Hey Jester,
Thanks for the bug info, I will look into it and fix it, could you please let me know the version of WP you are using and the browser and OS too. It would help me a lot in solving this.
Thanks
Keith
Hey Keith, I’m running wordpress 2.1.2 on a hosted server that uses cpanel. Browser is firefox 2.0.0.3 on Mac 10.4.9 .
Thanks for looking into it.
cool, just testing
Thanks for the information. I will try and fix this issue ASAP, I am releasing a newer version this week, which is much more powerful and integrates with another nifty comments plugin.
The bugs are my priority though and will fix it before i release the next version.
Keith
This is a really slick plugin. I like it very much.
I’m getting the same error jester is. I’m using WP 2.1.3 on the same type of server (Bluehost, if it matters) with PHP 4.4.4. I’m using Firefox 2.0.0.3 on Windows XP.
HI Technobites,
Thanks for the link back.
Keith
Hi Jim,
Glad you liked the plugin, I am working on fixing the bugs and adding new features, should be released this weekend.

Keith
Hi planetOzh,
Thanks for featuring me this as the plugin of the month.

Too many plugins would slow down the blog, ya’ know!
A much-needed plugin. Thanks.
I got the same error as Jester although it works fine.

@Arunn - Thanks I am glad you liked it
@Patrix - Just hold on for I am releasing a ajax version for this plugin, you should love it and i think that error should disappear.

Hey Rasmus,
Am so glad you liked this plugin, thanks for the compliment.
Keith
No problemo. Will await the AJAX version and then mention it on my blog. Thanks again.
Hi Keith,
I have the same problem as Jester’s. Any idea how to solve it ?
Thanks for the plugin anyway.
Hey Frilo,
Have solved the problem, releasing a new version in next few minutes.
Keith
Thank you for the plugin, it’s just what I’ve been waiting for !
This is one nifty little plugin!
Installed it as soon as I read about it, already loving it… Great job! =)
Hey Kristoffer,
Glad you liked it, I have added a ajax feature to this plugin now.
Keith
I think you need to update your changelog and version number then, Keith.
BTW - the AJAX reply is tight. Exactly the little adjustment that makes this plugin a must-have for every WordPress installation.
Hey Jim,
Glad you liked it, I have updated the changelog and version and released it at
http://techie-buzz.com/wordpress-plugins/better-comments-manager-just-got-better.html

Hey Jez,
Glad you liked it :).
Thanks for letting me know about the else wheres will fix it shortly
Keith
Love the AJAX update ! Thank you.
Hey Matt, My pleasure
It installed without any problem, but when I went to the Better Comment option page, it did not load for some reason. Weird.
I’m on WP 2.2 using a custom theme.
Hi Rolando,
Thanks for letting me know. Can you let me know a little more about the error, does it have show just the blank screen?
Could you also tell me the Browser version and OS you are using.
Keith
Since I had updated my wordpress to 2.2 this plugin is out of order. Most people got a problem with it in wordpress 2.2. So..it will be great, if you update this awesome plugin
Hi Lanooz,
Can you tell me the problems you are facing with WP2.2 I will definitely try and fix them.
Keith
Instead of showing me a comment that I posted via this plugin it’s breaking up this whole page. And the error 404 appearing in the part of admin panel.
Here’s the screenshot
click
Yes, this page that is appearing that’s the error 404.
(and in default: click)
And of course, it doesn’t post any comment.
Regards,
Lanooz.
Ouch. Ignore that first paragraph in this comment above, sorry
Hi Lanooz,
Thanks for letting me know about the problem.
I can see that you are using a customized theme for the admin, I haven’t tested it with customized themes yet. But will do it now.
Can you please give me more details about which wordpress version you are using, the customized theme etc.
Keith
Newest wordpress version - 2.2
And SpotMilk theme for admin panel.
I think that’s all..?
If there are other things that you would like to know, just tell.
I’m running WP 2.2 and using the Spotmilk Admin theme and I have no problem with this plugin. There could another plugin that’s causing a conflict.
Btw, great job with the plugin Keith! I like this plugin so much and I just did a review for it here
Hi Jaypee,
Thanks for the review, I am glad you liked it.
Have a few more features I want to add hope to do it soon, just caught up with work so could not implement it yet.
Keith
Hi Keith
Awesome plugin! I use it for two of my sites. One is working but the other is not. I get this message:
