I just blogged about this on my own website.

While the never WordPress version has some pretty exciting features, it appears that this release is quite reminiscent of the release of 2.5. If you take a look at the support forums, many users are having major problems, and we’re not even talking about plugin compatibility issues. I don’t even want to hear about those! So, I too am advocating that users wait for a few days until more is known about this release.

Um… I bet most comments don’t get through your filter.

Keith, I used your automatic upgrade plugin to upgrade to 2.6. It usually works like a charm (except for reactivation of plugins but that’s ok) but this time around it broke my upgrade process. It seems that it had not uploaded wp-upload.php to the root. This is a new file in the WP root. Any reason why it did not?

I manually uploaded that file and continued with the database upgrade process. It worked fine after that.

    Hi Keith,

I used your plugin previously to upgrade to 2.5. It worked flawlessly.
Now I wanted to upgrade to 2.6, again using your WPAU automated process. Everything seemed normal until I was asked to click a page with confirmation whether I need database update or not. It said my database is up to date.
Next, I click the link to reactivate all the plugins, but after that, I can’t get into the admin page!
Had tried to reset the admin password, but WP still kicks me out every time I tried to login into the admin panel.

    Please advice.

    Thanks!

Ed, there seems to be some issue with logging into WordPress 2.6 when you use Firefox 3.0.1 (http://wordpress.org/support/topic/188870) please try with a different browser.

    Keith,

Yes, your suggestion worked. I was able to login into admin panel using IE.
I hate using it though. :)

The problem was caused by WP itself then.
    Thanks for your WPAU!

I used Automatic Update to successfully upgrade to WP 2.5 but for 2.6 got this error, Database files could not be backed up. Failed at Step 2. I tried first on Firefox 3 and then Safari. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Had the same issue with 2.6 upgrade in Firefox 3, and I was also going through not being able to log in after the reset. That was until I REMOVED ALL COOKIES related to my site. You might wanna check this.

Holy cow, I was surprised when I logged in today. They didn’t announce the date previously, did they?

I’m going to hold on to 2.6.1, what with the frequent security updates.

I installed AU 1.2 to upgrade WP 2.6 but when I got to the back up page I get no further. No backup takes place
