Techie Buzz goes green

I have not posting for the last two days. The reason is because I was making Techie Buzz go green. I am proud to release my first WordPress theme for my site. This theme is currently not available for public downloads but I will make it available very shortly, there is still some work to be done before I can release the theme publicly.

Do let me know your thoughts about the new theme. Also let me know if you are seeing any problems in different browsers. I have tested it with Firefox2, Flock, IE6 and IE7 on Windows XP. Opera users please let me know if there are any problems with the theme.

The theme original design is done by freecsstemplates.org. I have modified it heavily to make it look what it does now. You can view the original template integral. The theme is created using CSS and div layers and dose not make any use of tables. The sidebar is at the right and content to the left. The sidebar is to the left and the content is to the right, but while loading the content always loads first making it search engine friendly too.

I have modified the header of the original theme to fit in subscription and ads. At the bottom of the page I have added space to fit in additional content like top posts.

Do let me know your thoughts about the new themes through your comments.

I am not a professional designer but I am open to converting designs to WordPress themes for a small charge. If you would be interested do drop me a line using the contact form and I will get back to you.

The layout looks cool including the header.

But the color(its kind of very bright) and font in the post is too small (on a 1600*1200) resolution. Not sure If I am the only one with this opinion :)

    • keith on June 18th, 2007 at 12:42 pm #

Thanks Venu have made the changes you have suggested.

Great theme Keith, my suggestion- increase the font size in the footer where you show the popular posts and other additional links.

Great job, Keith. The theme’s layout is lovely. But a suggestion: I found the greyish colour you’re using for body text is poorly visible :( Please use a darker colour. Other than that, it’s lovely.

Congratz on ur new theme but its top look messy on post pages

    • keith on June 18th, 2007 at 12:39 pm #

Hey Ashish, can you tell me what does not look right so that I can fix the issue

  11. Kyle Eslick on June 18th, 2007 at 10:30 am #

Ahh, love the shade of green you’re using! And love the use of the threaded comments plugin.

I second the darkest text (rather than the grey).

Also, not that it matters much, but your sidebar drops below the content column in IE6 (which I have to use at work). I doubt many will view your site using IE6, so just offering the information. Take 5px out of one or both columns and it should fix the problem I would think.

Hey kyle, glad you liked the new look. Thanks for letting me know about the IE6 issue will definitely fix it by today

Nice work Keith. Did you use the Preview Theme plugin before you launched? or what method did you use before you changed your theme so drastically?

    • keith on June 19th, 2007 at 7:25 am #

I first tested the theme on a identical installation on my local machine. I did use the preview theme plugin to test out before going live, but preview theme has a small flaw in it where it only works for one url and you have to modify the url’s for navigation.

    The links at the top.
    Here is the screenshot

You may try changing the colors of link (Ones those are for Bookmarking) or removing link ads just above the post’s name

Thanks for the tips Ashish I have made the changes accordingly.
