I finally managed to put aside some time and give a much needed update to Better Comments Manager. I am releasing the version 1.3 of Better Comments Manager today.

It feels great to know that the plugin has been downloaded times in over a month. I am also happy to announce that this plugin is now officially available as a download on wordpress extend where you can download all the plugins recommended by Wordpress.

If you are new to the Better comments manager then you should read more about BCM Version 1.0 and BCM Version 1.2. Version 1.0 and 1.2 are not available for downloads but you can always leave me a comment and I will send you the older versions.

Here are the changes that I made in the new release.

1. Removed scrolling effect on adding a new comment

I have removed the scrolling effect from this plugin when a new comment is added. I had received a few complaints with regard to this. Now when a new comment is added the page will not scroll to the added comment. Thanks to Ronald Huereca for pointing this out.

2. Made plugin compatible to store threaded replies

I had got many requests from users to make this plugin compatible with Brian’s threaded comments. I adhered to your requests and the plugin is now compatible with the threaded comments plugin. When you add a threaded reply the new comment will show up as a threaded comment instead of a new comment.

3. Added functionality to edit comments from within the same page

Another enhancement I have made is to add in the ability to edit the comments from within the page. I was impressed with Ronald’s plugin but this change also allows you to edit the Name, email address and url of the commentator.

This function can also be used when you have added a new reply but made some mistake in it. You can simply go to the top of the page and edit the comment all this without needing to load the page.

4. Choose between creating a new or threaded reply

Even though you may use threaded comments sometimes you may want to reply to more than one comment at a time. In such cases you can use the option to create a new reply altogether and reply to all the comments at once in a new comment.

This feature I thought of as while I was testing the plugin on my site I felt the need to reply to 3-4 commentators at a time and having this feature along with threaded comments.

5. Better Comments Manager is now accessible through the main admin panel

I received feedbacks saying that many people would like to have the better comment manager as a part of the main admin panel. Thanks to Ronald again for dissecting the plugin at webblog tools collection, which definitely made my task easier. I took from where Ronald had left and fixed the few bugs he was having to have the entire better comments manager moved to the admin panel.

I work for a company that needs wireless data collection tool that will enable me to make custom forms on my Blackberry or Motorola phone. It would be great if form can support drop down menus, GPS, check boxes, bar coding and photo capture. Can someone help me with this please?

Noticed a small bug w/ ver 1.3. When a comment has a link in it, the edit button is disabled. Here’s a screenshot of the error.

No problem! Is there a specific reason the BCM tab shows up on the Admin tab as well as the Comments tab? That’s unusual.

I patched my bcm-comments-edit file to fix this bug. Just added a strip_tags function on the call to the comment_content field and it seems to work nicely. Kudos on setting up your scripts for easy auditing!

I have to admit I did not know that such a tool exist. I am giving it a try. I was looking for something that allows the admin to respond to a comment or edit from the post page. The preview is great too.

    Thanks for the effort.

    Hi,

I’m using two Ajax plugins in the comments section:

    1. First one is ajax-comments from Mike.
    2. Second is ajax-preview plugin.

Just wanted to know, if this plugin is compatible with these two or will conflict, as both use prototype and scriptulaous scripts.

    Thanks,
    DG…

In future we reserve the right to delete comments from users using a name other than their own.
