Better comments manager just got better
Thank you for the overwhelming response in using the Better Comments Manager plugin, I have had downloads since its release and also recieved a lot of feedbacks and thanks for the plugin. To be quite frank I have made very good use of it and love it myself
.
Here is my way to say thanks to you all. Am releasing another version of Better Comments Manager which incoporates few suggestions to make it better. Thanks to all of you who have helped make this plugin better with your views, suggestions and feedbacks.
Better comments manager v1.2 incorporates the reply feature within the page. It also display the title of the post instead of the View link. I had read about this on Lorelle’s blog so thought it to be a worthwhile inclusion.
You can turn this feature of by editing the plugin and changing the value of the vairable $showLinkTitle
If you want to display the link title change the variable value to 1 as shown below
$showLinkTitle = 1;
If you do not want to see the title change the value to 0 as shown below
$showLinkTitle = 0;
Ok now the feature many of you requested me to incorporate which would allow you to reply to the comments without loading another page has been added. You can now reply to comments from within the page itself.
The reply text area will appear when you click on the reply link, you can add your reply and click on the Save Reply button, you will see a small message telling you that the reply is being added as shown below
Once the reply is saved it will appear as the first comment within the page, so you do not have to reload the page to see it.
Better Comments manager also has a smart feature. If you have already clicked on a reply and not saved it yet, when you click on the reply for another comment it will show you an alert asking you whether you want to cancel the old reply. If you click yes it will clear the old reply and add a new reply form to the second comment.
Better Comments manager creates the reply form dynamically so it will not affect page load times. Check out the Better Comments Manager release page for more information about the plugin.
Installation Instructions
- Download the plugin and unzip it in your plugins folder.
- Activate the plugin and your up and running
- Go to Comments tab in your WP admin and navigate to Better Comments Manager to start using the reply feature
If you have already downloaded and installed this plugin, first do these steps and re-install the plugin using the steps above
- Deactivate Better Comments Manager from the Admin Plugin Panel
- Delete the old files and follow the steps above
ChangeLog
- Version 1.2 released Wednesday, May 16th 2007

Thanks for the quick turnaround. Works like a charm now. But why did you get rid of the quicktags for comment replies?

Great job, but it doesn’t appear to work in Wordpress 2.0.X versions. You might want to note this in your release notes on this plugin so us stubborn 2.0.X users don’t bother.

Me again! Is there a way to insert the reply directly below the comment you a replying to instead of having your reply 3 or 4 posts below? Thanks!

Hi Cary,
I am working on the version that is compatible with Brian’s Threaded Comment, It should be released by this week end. So you will be able to simply add the reply below the comment.
Will post the new release once I have finished the new version.

Typo ! the plugin comment header (infos about author etc) says : “Better Comments Manger”. Manger ? Means “to eat” in french, your plugin now eats spam too ?

thanks for this plugin! Just downloaded and installed and it was super easy to use! Saw that you are developing another which allows “reply” to be just underneath that particular comment, can’t wait for that!
Good job!

I would like to say, that the problem that I got before (if you remember) is solved – i updated yuor great plugin to this new version.
And i suggest you to update this first post about this plugin, many people are coming through it so they may download the older version.

Hi Keith! Thanks a lot for your reply before! I tried to download the installer again and re-activate it… and now I could use it well!! Thanks for the great job! Anyway is there any feature to put our comment below the previous one? (like what Keith did when replying Lanooz’s comment…)

Hi Monika,
For that I use a plugin called Brian’s Threaded comments, you can install that plugin and use threaded reply to put the comments below the message.

Just a suggestion, why don’t you setup a seperate plugins page dedicated to Better Comments Manager, or is it there and I missed it?

I use your plugin and thanks for making it available. I have a feature request:
It doesn’t happen very often that I read a comment left at a posting (in my blog) that’s in the wrong place (attached to the wrong post). Someone read a post that lead to another post, and somewhere on the trail the reader left a comment that should be elsewhere/earlier. Could you, maybe, someday, add a “move” item to your menu?

I like it but have two suggestions:
1. Anyway you could group a conversation like Gmail. This might be hard to do but would really make it a lot easier to follow a conversation if you could see what was said before. Many people use threaded comments and it would really make life easier if you could see the entire thread in the admin panel.
2. The Better Comments Manager is listed in two places and eats up to much room, be nice if the top one was removed.

Hello!
You could improve this plug-in putting some function to send one e-mail to the person who’ve wrote the comment. One e-mail to notify the answer. It’s good to get a vist back.
But it’s still a great plug-in.
