Really? Paramount Digital Entertainment is distributing 10 of its films in the form of Windows Phone 7 apps. In addition to a full film, Paramount’s movie apps will include bonus features, trivia games and the ability to create custom clips.
The apps will cost about $10 per flick, and although value for the buck, are a little expensive for mobile app ecosystem which thrives on free and quality apps as cheap as 99 cents. Nevertheless, this is exciting and extends not only entertainment-on-the-go avenues, but also mobile app business models.
The two apps already available in the marketplace:
Mean Girls
Cady Heron is a hit with The Plastics, the A-list girl clique at her new school, until she makes the mistake of falling for the wrong guy.
School of Rock
A wannabe rock star in need of cash poses as a substitute teacher at a prep school, and tries to turn his class into a rock band.
Apart from these two, Paramount has already announced other titles that would be available soon:
- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
- The Last Airbender
- Waiting for Superman
- True Grit
- Zoolander
- Beowulf
- GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra
- The Italian Job
