Fennec Alpha 3 is Mozilla’s mobile browser for Windows Mobile devices, and still in development with Alpha 3 release just out. The latest release makes changes to the mobile browser’s theme, and its scrolling and panning performance.
Mozilla says it has increased Fennec’s start-up time, although users will need to reboot the Windows Mobile phone for the difference to take effect. Also, the latest release supports more screen resolutions for any other Windows Mobile phone.
Fennec, like Google Maps, uses what is called a tile cache rendering system to hold onto the part of the screen that has already been rendered. As you scroll and pan around, it should take less time to refresh the screen, since Fennec will not be downloading the same content afresh.
Fennec Alpha 3 for WinMo features great work and innovation, but is still an an unstable alpha release. The .cab installer is a very large 9.5 MB, and the installation footprint is huge as well.
