Microsoft India Launches an Interesting Windows Phone Campaign
By on November 9th, 2011

Microsoft India has launched a campaign around the idea of ‘important people’ in your life and involves interesting prizes like house parties and movie tickets to international vacation for you with your friends. Windows Phone was officially launched in India last month.

<img style="background-image: none; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-top: 0px; border-width: 0px;" title="I Love You Guys" src="" alt="I

The campaign: I love you guys! is a fun quiz where you pick your Facebook friends as answers to specific questions on friendship, like who would you chit-chat with at 3 AM in the night, and create a lost of the most important friends. The contest ends on January 10, 2012 and is valid in India only.

Next, you need to submit a story on why you’ve chosen these friends as more important friends to qualify for the base level prizes. These include house party for 5 people + spouses, 5 pax club party, 5 pax make over with a personal celebrity stylist, and 5 pax Gold Class movie screening. Every month for 3 months, Microsoft will select 665 winners. The shortlisted participants who qualify for base level prizes can qualify for the grand prize by submitting a story on ‘what is the most memorable event that has happened with his/her friends’.  The grand prize is a 7 Nights /7 Days package for Cancun worth INR 16,00,000 for a group of 5 people.

Apart from this, all participants who qualify and get selected for under this contest will need to go through a demo of a Windows Phone. Based on the demo, there shall be ask on-the-spot questions on Windows Phone. Participants who answer the maximum number of questions correctly will win a Windows Phone. There are 10 Windows Phones to win.

The campaign features Mantra, a popular RJ turned actor, who anchors the campaign portal, surprisingly done in Flash not Silverlight or HTML5. After you’ve answered the questions and picked friends, the reward process would need you to allow pop-ups as it tries to bring a Facebook share window. This is an issue since when the refresh happens, you are taken back to the start since all your activity was on the same page in the Flash application.

This is Microsoft India’s first initiative to market Windows Phone after the launch. While there are student and developer programs to evangelize Windows Phone development, Microsoft has hardly made its presence felt in traditional media or online. Better late than never!
