Finally, Cricket Fans on Windows Phone Can Say Yahoo!
By on April 17th, 2012

As cricket fans using Windows Phone ardently wait for an official ESPNcricinfo app, Yahoo! stumped the domain by releasing Yahoo! Cricket, apparently the first official app from a content publisher for cricket.

Before I explored the features and the experience, I double checked that this was was Yahoo!’s first app for Windows Phone apart from the obvious one for Flickr. Take a bow, Indian audience! Also, like I mentioned in my review of the Zomato app, first-on-the-platform has a clear advantage to garner download numbers and positive mindshare.

The app has everything that a cricket fan would need with focus on schedules and scoreboards (Cricket geeks!). The panorama gives a quick look at all the live, recent, and upcoming matches. The live scores are presented in a nice interface, and although the ball-by-ball commentary is pretty basic, it works and is a fine addition to the detailed and interactive scoreboard. The app also provides news articles on the game and has nicely crafted photo galleries showing the latest from the world of cricket.

While I wish the Live Tiles feature of Windows Phone was used better for live scores, the app is feature-complete as some would say. Released in time for the IPL season, this is a must download and a pin to the Start screen. Gentlemen, play!
