Finally! After several teasers of apps from Indian content publishers and services (including The Times of India), Network 18 (the umbrella owner of the popular English news channel, CNN-IBN) has released the first official Windows Phone news app in India. ![]()
The app, available for free, is called IBNLive, in consistency with their news portal IBNLive.com. The app provides a complete news experience with latest news headlines, complete news reports, and video content.
The app allows you to discover and read the latest and top news. Along with complete news reports (which are nicely arranged and categorized in sections), you could watch the video and view the photos all on the same screen. Along with the news, you can watch all the CNN-IBN shows, including Face The Nation, Devil’s Advocate, The Week That Wasn’t and more, and view photo galleries.
The app also allows you to save the news stories to read later at your convenience. Tap the Save icon while reading a report and find it in the ‘Saved Stories’ section at a later time. You can share the news stories on Twitter or Facebook, like any other news app would allow you to. Interestingly, the social share is built around the Me Live Tile as you would otherwise update your status on these social networks. Nice one, devs!
The app can do with a little performance improvement, and the data usage could be tightened. It’s a fine app nevertheless, and the the price point of nothing, is already pinned to my Start screen.
UPDATE: I just realized that the pinned Live Tile for the IBNLive app also displays news alerts and breaking news. Cool.
