firefox alpha 2 codenamed bon echo alpha 2 is out.

this is a second milestone release on the path to the stable release of firefox 2, currently the stable version avialable to public is firefox 1.5.0.3. this release is recommended for usage by developers and testers.
i had earlier also written about the firefox 3 version which is a nightly build codenamed deerpark alpha. it is a trend now that most of the firefox alpha and nightly builds releases are codenamed after parks.

with every firefox builds i see some of the extensions i use becoming redundant as they are now directly integrated into the firefox browser itself, this is good news for people who use multiple extensions in firefox as the number of extesions to be installed will now be lesser.

some changes in the milestone release for bon echo alpha 2 are;

  • links default to opening in new tabs, not new windows
  • close buttons now appear on every tab, and the close behaviour is slightly different
  • inline spell checking in text boxes
  • automatic restoration of your browsing session if there is a crash
  • search suggestions now appear in the search box auto-complete for google and yahoo!
  • new search plugin manager for removing and re-ordering search engines
  • improved support for previewing and subscribing to web feeds
  • new microsummaries feature for bookmarks
  • new add-ons manager improves the user interface for managing extensions and themes
  • updates to the extension system to provide enhanced security and to allow for easier localization of extensions
  • new search service that supports sherlock and opensearch engines
  • support for svg text using svg:textpath

i am defintely going to check out the new build, if you are interested, you can download the bon echo alpha 2 for windows, mac os and linux.
