This is a bit off topic but its about a journey where I realised my dreams so would like to share it with my readers. This story is not fictional and contains the true journey of my life. Do let me know if you have your dreams come true, i would love to feature it on another one of my sites and this as well.

It was almost a year since the reality of coming to the United States of America had been offered to me, which made me more than just excited because it wasn’t just an opportunity but a dream I had had for many a years.

The lure to come and work to the US was there since I started working and gradually it was turning out to be a dream that I wanted to achieve though not at any costs but with my hard work and dedication in what I did. I joined a US company in 2004, which had their off shore development unit in India and that’s when things turned around for me. I worked hard, and got the due recognition from the company which inspired me to work harder and harder.

Then came a day when the CEO of my company told me that he would take me to the US to work for him there, and that was when I did realize that my dream is going to come true.

It was not a very pleasant year though and I had to run around to get a lot of things done including applying for my passport ironically which was the first thing I should have done when I had the dream.

Many more months and paper work later I was here standing in a queue to get my visa to the US. The process was smooth and I walked out from there, becoming another one of those persons who could work in the US, all smiling and triumphant at the thought that I am one of the few lucky people who get to do this.

A couple months later I had got my tickets. I was happy and relieved that the time had come, though not as happy to leave a home where I lived with my parents all my life, leaving the luxuries of having my food cooked and my clothes laundered behind. Leaving my girl friend and all the times we shared together, never to spend those weekends with her anymore.

It was all too much for me to leave and I even had thoughts to cancel the trip but the courage that my parents and girl friend gave me lifted my spirits and prepared me for my journey seven seas across the globe.

The D-day finally arrived and I had been all packed, and ready to spend the next 20 hours travelling across the globe.

Emotional feelings were exchanged between me and my loved ones before I got into the check-in area of the Mumbai international airport. I was sad to leave them but was rejoiced by the thought that I would get to see them in a year’s time.

As soon as I got into the check-in area, I said to myself “Man I am going to be in the US”.

The journey

I had a colleague along with me who was joining the US office, so at least I had some company. The journey was about 18 hours with a stop over at Abu Dhabi.

We changed over at Abu Dhabi and within an hour we were on the plane heading to JFK. This plane was quite bigger and better than the last one; it had to be for a 14 and half hour long journey.

On the plane all I could do was eating, watching movies and reading, sleeping was least on my mind with the excitement and I barely slept for 3 hours.

As the captain’s announcement came that we were about an hour from landing JFK I got all excited but all I could see were white clouds and then the descent started, wow I had never seen a place as beautiful as these, big houses with lawns, nice roads, buildings everywhere, and more baseball grounds than the amount of time I had spent watching it on TV all my life.

Finally when we landed I again said to myself, “Dude!! You are finally in New York”.

The immigration line was quite big and we spent about an hour in there, once we got the immigration clearance and had our passport stamped we were on our way out searching for some one who would come and pick us up, after about 10 minutes and not finding him. I had to call my boss to confirm if he had actually sent someone over to pick us up.

After receiving an affirmation I walked around again and spotted him carrying a board with our names on it. Then we began our journey towards the car that would take us home. Dragging the luggage on a small trolley I had got from home as the US airports charge for these, we made our way towards the car for a journey of 90 minutes to take us to our home in Jersey City.

It was a mesmerizing journey for me as I looked around seeing the nice roads and big houses around, It was also the first time I came across a GPS, though I have heard and know what it is, it was the first time I had every seen it in use. I was fascinated you could move around without having to stop and ask someone for directions, even if you are going to a place where you have never been before.

I hope they get these systems in India but it will be very difficult if not impossible, till then stopping and asking for directions will act as a GPS.

Reaching Home @ US

We finally reached the place we would call home for our stay in the US, a nice little apartment in a very peaceful avenue and mind you it is very peaceful out here even though there is a whole block full of buildings out here, except for passing cars and ambulances.

Though reaching home was not exactly a cake walk. We got down at a different address a couple of blocks from where we had to actually go. And walking those couple of blocks felt like ever, carrying the heavy luggage with me on that small trolley. I was even more tired than the 18 hours on train. But it was finally great to be here.

We rested for a while then unpacked and freshened up and then along with our office representative went to have some food. Once we were done he took us along to the office to show us how we have to get there.

Life in the US

We learnt quickly how to get to home and office, looked around the grocery stores and the super markets and places to buy things, quickly memorizing where we could get things.

Learning is a fascinating experience, but if your life depends on it you have to do it quickly, and US is a place where you have to learn quickly so as to adjust better here.

I have been using more Google Maps here too; it really makes sense using it here anyways. I could not make much use of it in India as it is not as detailed there. In fact I have made more use of the tools I used to write about here in the past few days than ever before.

It has been quite a wonderful experience coming and living in the US, I see it more civilized, systematic, less corruption, better traffic rules, nice houses, clean roads, beautiful buildings and much more.

I have been here for around a month and totally like it out here, the system used here is quite advanced, usage of space is quite efficient, building a metro below the path walk and a subway beneath that has just put me in awe of this place.

I have been to places like Times Square and Madison Square and have liked it a lot, there is still so much more to explore and do out here.

To end it all

It is always great when dreams come true, but you don’t stop dreaming if it comes true neither do you if they don’t.

If you have a dream just don’t keep dreaming about it work harder towards fulfilling your dreams though it may take time never lose hope as hope is the only thing that keeps things going. Not all dreams come true but they do come true isn’t it.

P.S. My next dream is to become richer than Bill Gates.
