xplorer²- Explore your files with ease
Some time back I had posted about QTTabBar which allowed you browse through your files using tabs. It was a very good tool to use and was using it till now, but that was I came across another cute little program that allows me to do browse my folders in a tabbed manner.
xplorer ² lite is a very good alternative for your regular Explorer windows and performs better than QTTabBar. It is a lightweight version of xplorer ² software which is available for commercial usage. It is free for personal and academic use.
xplorer ² lite shows up like a regular Explorer window but instead of one file browsing pane and one folder view, it has one file browsing pane and two folder views. That means you can browse two folders at once which makes Copy Pasting files in 2 different folders a piece of Cake. xplorer ² does make my organizing task a lot more easier.
You can also have a tabbed window within a folder view to navigate between different folders. There are lots of keyboard shortcuts available too which make tasks such as creating a folder or file more easier. It also has an option to preview multimedia files both audio and video content and also acts as a text editor.
Mass renaming, file splitting and merging capabilities are all built in into this power packed product. So don’t wait switch to xplorer ² lite now and enjoy a better experience for managing files and folders.

Hi there,
Thanks for the tip on xplorer2. I know several friends who are using the software here at Snowblind Studios. Myself, I use Directory Opus, which is similar but, in my opinion, far more powerfull. On the flip side, Directory Opus tends to be far less concerned about looking exactly like explorer – so it isn’t a great choice for those looking for an incremental jump in features vs. a revolutionary upgrade.
Anyway, I would be curious to know what you think of the two products. I would try out xplorer2 if you told me that it was worth looking into even if you have directory opus, so please let me know what you think. One particular issue I would be interested to hear your thoughts on is ease of use. Given that Directory Opus caters to the experienced crowd, how far would you go in recommending it to a non-poweruser?
My opinion is that if you want the best, go with Directory Opus and spend a little time exploring its more useful features. However, if you just want that 90% improvement that tabbed browsing and a dual-pane view provides, go with xplorer2 or similar. You will probably be more comfortable, spend a lot less time learning the quirks, and never miss the power features that I use every day in dopus. Generally, I recommend dopus only to those I know would take advantage of one or more of its advanced features.
Directory Opus just recently started distributing their first betas for version 9.0. You can check it out here:

All this talking about Directory Opus makes me want to write a new entry in my blog talking about the things I love most about it. :)
Anyway, I blather on, don’t I? It is funny, but when you actually put your money on the line for a product you tend to feel like an evangalist for it just so you can feel great about spending that cold, hard cash. Don’t worry though – I am not affiliated with them in any way – just a dedicated user. :-)

Hi Micheal,
I will definitely have a look at Directory Opus and give my feedback on the blog within next couple of days.
I will definitely try and recommend you the best one.

I never knew this existed. I’ve been wanting something like this for years—ever since moved from MsDOS and had to give up the old TreeView program. This is exciting!
Thanks to this post, I have been trying out Xplorer2 Lite. It is an excellent little replacement for Windows Explorer. It features two window panes to view folders and a number of other features that Windows Explorer should have had—plus it’s light weight. Thanks for the recommendation!
