The great father of the Indian Freedom Struggle and a powerful advocate of the non-violent mode of struggle, Mahatma Gandhi sits alone with a ‘charkha’ in the foreground. The spinning wheel became a symbol of self-sufficiency, signifying dependence on indigenous products instead of those imported by the British.
