Waiting for PR rise? Google does a U-turn

Many of us have been waiting for that elusive PR update which would push our PR up, but what happens Google does a U-turn and drops the page rank of most of the top sites. There has been a considerable drop for many sites and this is because they are selling paid links.

I had highlighted the fact that Google is not targeting the sploggers who steal your content [1] but are happy to penalize us. Does this mean the end of Text Link Ads? Well only time will tell, how many will choose between Google AdSense and Text Link Ads.

Here are some of the top sites that lost their PR courtesy Daily Blog Tips [2].

  • Engadget [3] (from 7 to 5)
  • AutoBlog [4] (from 6 to 4)
  • Problogger [5] (from 6 to 4)
  • Copyblogger [6] (from 6 to 4)
  • Search Engine Journal [7] (from 7 to 4)
  • Quick Online Tips [8] (from 6 to 3)
  • Search Engine Roundtable [9] (from 7 to 4)
  • Blog Herald [10] (from 6 to 4)
  • Weblog Tools Collection [11] (from 6 to 4)
  • JohnTP [12] (from 6 to 4)
  • Coolest Gadgets [13] (from 5 to 3)
  • Washington Post [14] (from 7 to 5)
  • Washington Times [15] (from 6 to 4)
  • Charlotte Observer [16] (from 6 to 4)
  • Forbes.com [17] (from 7 to 5)
  • SFGate.com [18] (from 7 to 5)
  • Sun Times [19] (from 7 to 5)
  • New Scientist [20] (from 7 to 5)
  • Seattle Times [21] (from 6 to 4)
  • John Chow [22] also seems to have dropped PR from 5 to 4. Though many Google data centers show different rankings the main Google Toolbar PR has dropped to the the new ones.

Sigh Google you and your policies need to be clarified to the world, can you come up with a explanation for this?

Has your PR dropped to, do let me know through your comments.
