Waiting for PR rise? Google does a U-turn

Many of us have been waiting for that elusive PR update which would push our PR up, but what happens Google does a U-turn and drops the page rank of most of the top sites. There has been a considerable drop for many sites and this is because they are selling paid links.

I had highlighted the fact that Google is not targeting the sploggers who steal your content but are happy to penalize us. Does this mean the end of Text Link Ads? Well only time will tell, how many will choose between Google AdSense and Text Link Ads.

Here are some of the top sites that lost their PR courtesy Daily Blog Tips.

  • Engadget (from 7 to 5)
  • AutoBlog (from 6 to 4)
  • Problogger (from 6 to 4)
  • Copyblogger (from 6 to 4)
  • Search Engine Journal (from 7 to 4)
  • Quick Online Tips (from 6 to 3)
  • Search Engine Roundtable (from 7 to 4)
  • Blog Herald (from 6 to 4)
  • Weblog Tools Collection (from 6 to 4)
  • JohnTP (from 6 to 4)
  • Coolest Gadgets (from 5 to 3)
  • Washington Post (from 7 to 5)
  • Washington Times (from 6 to 4)
  • Charlotte Observer (from 6 to 4)
  • Forbes.com (from 7 to 5)
  • SFGate.com (from 7 to 5)
  • Sun Times (from 7 to 5)
  • New Scientist (from 7 to 5)
  • Seattle Times (from 6 to 4)
  • John Chow also seems to have dropped PR from 5 to 4. Though many Google data centers show different rankings the main Google Toolbar PR has dropped to the the new ones.

Sigh Google you and your policies need to be clarified to the world, can you come up with a explanation for this?

Has your PR dropped to, do let me know through your comments.

Sad to here that Shiva. I too had the same 6 months back from 5 to 4 and finally to 3 but that was more because I was not blogging much for 5 months.

Good to know that Madhur, I too have 3 which was from earlier. Wonder if they will roll out any PR rise for sites too.

I think they are trying to penalize the sites which sell text links and after that they might do a PR update thing.

Yups I think so I have removed my TLA as I do not want to get penalized they are bread and butter for my site.

I have kontera ads in my blog. Does that means it’s TLA too ?

            • keith on October 27th, 2007 at 2:52 pm #

Raymond Kontera does not mean Text Link Ads, only when you have links that are paid does it mean Text Link Ads.

Wow! my PR rises from no pagerank to PR4.

Well this is the first PR update for my blog as it’s still a new blog.

      I’m actually targeting PR 6. :)

Gawd, mine had gone to N/A too, I hate the fact that they have to reduce our PR’s just because we monetize our blogs. What’s the catch anyway? They do the same thing, too I guess on their ‘other’ websites perhaps. Damnn, it makes me go all crazy
