Apple has announced that the Mac App Store has already hit one million downloads on its first day of operation. It has been just one day since the Mac App Store launched with about 1000 apps, and it has already had its share of issues and controversies. What remains to be seen is whether these numbers are indicative of greater future sales numbers or just initial excitement.
The Mac App Store has been modeled after the extremely popular iPhone App Store and functions as a centralized marketplace for Mac apps and games with developers keeping 70% of the sales revenue and Apple pocketing the rest.
“We’re amazed at the incredible response the Mac App Store is getting. Developers have done a great job bringing apps to the store and users are loving how easy and fun the Mac App Store is.” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO.
