India’s Aakash Tablet is a Huge Hit; Sold Out
Last week, we had posted about the launch of the famous Indian Aakash tablet, which was priced at $50, and also included instructions to order it online. Well, don’t bother… the entire stock of the Aakash Tablet has already been sold out, in less than a week. No details on when it will become available again have been disclosed yet.
We have closed bookings for Akash and opened online pre-bookings for the second generation Akash tablet.said a company spokesperson.
While we don’t have any specific sales figures, this just goes on to show how the Aakash tablet has been a huge hit. Obviously, being priced at a tenth of the iPad did contribute to much of its success. The Aakash tablet is manufactured by DataWind, a Canadian company, and offers decent hardware specifications – 7 inch touchscreen display, 366 MHz ARM 11 processor, 256 MB RAM, Wi-Fi, and runs Android 2.2 Froyo.
However, DataWind is still taking pre-orders for the UbiSlate 7 tablet, which offers much more value for money than the Aakash tablet. It is priced at $60, but offers much better hardware. It comes with a 7 inch touchscreen display too, but is powered by a much faster 700 MHz ARM Cortex A8 processor. It has a larger 3200 mAh battery and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It offers Wi-Fi as well as GPRS connectivity.
You can pre-book the UbiSlate 7 tablet here – http://www.ubislate.com/prebook.html
The UbiSlate 7 tablet will start shipping in late January.
