Improved Google Search Results
A little while back we told you about ways in which you could enhance Google Search Results, however those tools did not exactly make changes to the Google search results, but only added additional information to it.
Google have been working on bettering their search results on a continuous basis and several experimental Google search features like Google SearchWiki and Color based image search among the most recent ones.
In addition to those experimental features, Google today announced enhancements to the search results in the form of better search refinements and longer snippets.
Better search refinements, basically understands a user query better and shows useful related searches for it, not that this feature did not work earlier, the new changes make associations much more better.
Starting today, we’re deploying a new technology that can better understand associations and concepts related to your search, and one of its first applications lets us offer you even more useful related searches.
In addition to the better search refinements, Google search results will also display longer snippets, that will help users choose on which results they want to click, and also provide more information about things they are searching for.
For example, if users are searching for a review of a particular restaurant, the longer snippet will help more than the earlier ones.

Thanks for this information! I usually see bunch of crappy results in the first page of Google. A page with high pagerank does not necessarily mean it is useful.
With Microsoft launching its Bing search engine, the competition has again flared up and google has to be on its toes again to maintain its domination as a Search engine leader.
