google has released their final version of desktop search google desktop 3.0 on wednesday.
new features in this release include
quick search box
this quick search box pops up in the middle of the desktop on clicking the ctrl key twice to facilitate quick web and local searches, hitting the ctrl key twice again makes the search box disappear.
by clicking on the lock search item in the deskbar or floating deskbar menu, will prevent anyone from doing a desktop search on the computer. when locked a message is shown on the desktop search home page saying that the search is locked and to unlock the search a user will have to enter the current user password for windows login.
send panel to friend
some panels will now also have an option to be send to a friend, this option can be avialed by right clicking on the panel using three options
panel name (i.e. news panel) : sends the panel item to the same panel in your friend's sidebar with the message "sent from (your name)".
chat: sends the panel item to your friend's google talk chat window.
email: sends the panel item to your friend's email inbox using your default mail client.
another significant change is the advanced search options page
other features also include searching over the network on multiple computers, undocking panels, docking panels, hiding panels, stay on top of other windows options and much more.
