have you recently upgraded to firefox 1.5.0.3 and started having problems with the search engines not getting added or having no search engines at all in the search box.

well there is another problem that you may face, everytime you restart firefox your settings will not be remembered. that's a bug the firefox new version has, and i have faced it too.
this problem is probably because firefox 1.5.0.3 is not reading old settings or perhaps one of the profile files is not being understood by the newer version, the former is the known issue and is also a firefox bug which has been fixed.

uninstalling may usually not solve your problem, here is a quick tip that will definitely solve the problem related to those issues, its semi technical, so if you are not aware of some things please ask your system administrator to have this done for you.

doing these things will not require you to have to uninstall and re-install firefox, these will work without you having to uninstall firefox.

before you can try this, these instructions do work, before you can do this please back up all files you will copy in step 1.

1. cut your extensions/bookmarks from your
c:\documents and settings\username\application data\mozilla\firefox\profiles\random_string.default\ directory and paste them some other folder (i.e. maybe your desktop).

2. delete the c:\documents and settings\username\application data\mozilla\folder entirely.

3. open firefox and close it once it has launched.

4. copy your extensions folder, bookmarks folder and other necessary folders you require from wherever you had saved them to in step one.

5. paste them back into the newly created

c:\documents and settings\username\application data\mozilla\firefox\profiles\random_string.default\ directory

doing so will solve the problem. if you need any additional assistance, don't hesitate to post a comment, i will try and help more.
