Evernote Gets Out of Beta, 40MB Limit for Notes

evernote-logo Evernote [1] one of our favorite applications to keep track of our ideas and to do list has finally come out of beta and will now be publicly available for usage.

There are no major feature rollouts this time other than ones we had spoken about [2] earlier. The new announcements puts an end to the unlimited accounts users had access to as a part of the beta period.

All free Evernote [1] accounts are now limited to a monthly cap of 40MB [3] which can be reused. If you upload a 1MB image it will count towards your quota of 40MB limit, deleting the image will reclaim the 1MB space in your Evernote account. The 40MB limit is only on a month to month basis which guarantees you atleast 480MB per year, so once a month has ended you will start your account afresh with 40MB.

According to Evernote stats here is what you can upload with your 40MB limit per month.

  • Typed notes: 20,000
  • Ink notes: 10,000
  • Mobile snapshots: 400
  • Web clips: 270
  • Audio notes: 40

Well this is definite for those who have used Evernote to upload images and heavy duty notes which take up more space as your account will fill-up even before you know.

Mashable [4] reports that the paid accounts may start at $5 per month or $45 a year based on storage space. In addition to the cap on upload limits Evernote will also be releasing a API for accessing notes from their servers.

All in all this was bound to happen and many of you may not like the changes but everything good has to come to end, the party never lasts lifetime.
