Create Flowcharts Easily Online with Flowchart.com
By on May 17th, 2007

Flowcharts are extensively used to diagrammatically explain the flow for things. Flow charts can be used for various purposes including creating business flows, network diagrams, process flows and lots more.

I use Visio to create the flowcharts, Visio in itself is a great tool, but then again its a desktop software and I would have to it installed on every PC i use. That’s the beauty of web based softwares such as Google Docs and Spreadsheets. It allows me to create documents and spreadsheets with just making use of a browser.

Flowchart Now the amount of time I spend at the browser has gone up with the advent of such softwares, and it is more likely to go up when I came across Flowchart.com via StartupSquad. Flowchart.com is a web site where you can create flowcharts online.

The demo looks great and viewing it I feel it will be very easy to create flow charts. The site does not say much more about itself but am waiting for my beta invite so that I can use it and let you know more about it. You can easily collaborate and share the changes with users. Once you create the flowchart you have the option to store it in your account online, or even download it as a pdf or png file.

Another good thing about Flowchart.com is that you do not have to install any additional plugins to run it. You just need to have a browser like Firefox or Internet Explorer and that’s it.

Features Overview of Flowchart.com

  • Easy to use Interface.
  • No plugins required.
  • Works with popular browsers.
  • Drawing Tools (Lines, Arrows, Bézier curves)
  • Objects (Flowchart objects, clipart)
  • Realtime online collaboration between multiple users with different browsers.
  • Save your Flowchart as a PDF or PNG formats.
  • Upload your original clipart and use it in your Flowchart, or Share them with the community, or Sell them.

Overall looks a promising product and I would love to use it to create flowcharts as my work involves a lot of diagrammatic representation and I am running out of time on the Microsoft 2007 Visio trial version.

The fact that Flowchart.com is still in beta makes me a little nervous about its long-term sustainability. Lucid Charts is one to check out at http://www.lucidchart.com
