Sony Ericsson had rolled out the Android 2.1 update for the Android based phones in the Xperia family except for the X8 in early November. Now, the company has started rolling out the Android 2.1 update for the Xperia X8 as well. As of now, the Android 2.1 update for the device is being rolled out in the generic regions.
Sony Ericsson will soon roll out the update to unbranded phones in other regions of the world as well. Since the Éclair update will wipe your X8 clean, users should use the Sony Ericsson Backup and Restore application to backup their data.
Sony Ericsson has also released a video demonstrating how to update the X8 to Android 2.1. Here is the video :
Update Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 to Android 2.1
The Android 2.1 update for the X8 brings with it a new updated lock screen and other goodies which the updated Android OS brings with it.
People who have been craving for the X8 can now finally get their hands on it. Sony Ericsson has officially started shipping the handset across the globe. It was quite a few months ago that Sony Ericsson had announced their next XPERIA handset the X8. The XPERIA X8 features a 3-inch screen with HVGA resolution and is powered by a 600MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 processor.
The X8 like its elder sibling the X10 will feature Sony Ericsson’s proprietary Timescape UI. The handset will be running on the out-dated Android 1.6 (Donut) like its other XPERIA siblings. The X8 is expected to get its Android 2.1 update later this year’. The update will be rolled out a bit later’ after other Android members of the XPERIA family get their share of Éclair love.
Along with the XPERIA X8, Sony Ericsson has also started shipping the Cedar. The Cedar is a GreenHeart series phone and thus is made of recycled plastics and comes with a high-efficiency charger.
Remember the smaller brother of the X10 we told you nearly a couple of weeks ago? Some unseen pictures of the bigger brother of the X10 Mini, and the smaller brother of the X10 have been published at Se-nse blog. The handset will be known as the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8. Earlier, the X8 was known by its code name – Shakira.
Looking at the pictures published on the blog, the phone lacks a LED flash. The screen size of the phone will be around 3.2-inch to 3.5-inch. The XPERIA X8 will also feature the proprietary Sony Ericsson MediaScape and TimeScape UI.
Also from the above pictures, the phone looks quite bulky. As of now, there is no information available about hardware specifications of the device. We need to wait for the official announcement from Sony Ericsson for the hardware specification of the phone, or for a leak.
In all probability, the hardware specification of the phone will be similar to that of the X10 Mini.
