For all of you north of the equator, Fall is falling. The people at NewFreeScreensavers must have detected a chill in the air, and they’ve started adding new Autumn screensavers. Don’t be afraid to grab one or two. The screensavers there are always safe to install.

There are plenty of free screensavers and wallpapers on the net, but you have to be careful to visit only safe websites when you are looking for them. As many of you have learned by now, not all free screensavers are created equal. Many times, free means that you have to install stupid toolbars, adware and other unwanted junk along with the screensaver. That’s not true of the ones at NewFreeScreensavers.

In most places in the northern hemisphere, frigid winter has already begun making way for the delightful spring. Snow covered sideways and icy winds have been replaced by blooming magnolias. However, if you are already missing the snow, you can deck up your desktop with Microsoft’s new “Antarctic” themepack for Windows 7. The new themepack features 15 stunning wallpapers that capture Antarctica in all its glory. Australian comedian Andrew Denton had been very correct when he remarked that, “If Antarctica were music it would be Mozart. Art, and it would be Michelangelo. Literature, and it would be Shakespeare”.

Microsoft has also published a “Rango” themepack, ahead of the release of the animated film of the same name. Rango is a comedy that tells the tale of a pet chameleon who aspires to be a hero, and is then thrust into the role when he ends up in a western town plagued by bandits. The movie features Johnny Depp’s voice in the titular role. It will hit the theaters on March 4 in US and UK, and on April 20 in India. In the meanwhile you can enjoy seven lighthearted wallpapers from Rango courtesy of Microsoft.

It’s autumn and unsurprisingly Microsoft has released a new Windows 7 theme to go with the season. Autumn is the season that marks the impending arrival of the dreaded winter. It’s the season of melancholy. But, perhaps more significantly, autumn is the season Halloween is celebrated in. The splendid wallpaper collection captures the essence of autumn in a brilliant, albeit slightly unnerving fashion.

While the Eerie Autumn theme is spooky, the Lightning theme is simply awe inspiring. This theme captures Mother Nature at her fiercest. I don’t know about you, but lightning and thunderbolt always manages to send shivers down my spine.

One of my online buddies, Andrew Fox, recently commented on my Google Buzz about the article concerning 4 Free Microsoft Themes for XP. Andrew mentioned that he thought the best Microsoft theme was one called Royale. I quickly located a copy of it and tried it out. It is a very nice theme, but I found out that someone has taken the Royale theme and tweaked it to make it even better. The tweaked version is called Royale Remixed.

Here’s what the Royale Remixed theme looks like on my netbook.

There are three color schemes included in this theme. The color schemes can be accessed by right clicking on your desktop and selecting Properties, then the Appearance tab.

The Noir color scheme is shown above while Royale and Zune are shown below.

The only difference I noticed between Noir and Zune was that Zune is a little darker. I like the Zune color scheme the best. Which one do you like?

Is Royale Remixed the best theme for Microsoft XP? I’d have to say noto that question. There are so many themes available to an XP user, especially if they are willing to use the UxTheme patch to unlock all the great themes that are available.

The only thing you may not like about these themes is that you will have to pass the Windows Validation test to download them. It’s not a big deal, unless you have a pirated copy of Windows.

Close on the heels of the release of Czech Spring, Microsoft has unveiled yet another official Windows 7 theme – LIFE. This theme is also nature oriented and features five spectacular high-resolution wallpapers (1920×1200) provided by Discovery and BBC.

If you love the wallpapers, then do not forget to check out their source the BBC One documentary series LIFE. LIFE was a groundbreaking documentary, which showcased the extraordinary lengths to which living things go to stay alive.

Robin Williams said that, “Spring is nature’s way of saying, ‘Let’s party!’”. Indeed, Spring is a season whose onset is marked by festivals in most parts of the world.

Avatar, the much awaited movie, which will be released this weekends has already received some good reviews. Looks like Microsoft is cashing in on the popularity of the Avatar movie, and have released a new Avatar theme for Windows 7.

The Avatar theme has movie stills for wallpapers which rotate automatically after certain interval. The theme adds custom colors to Windows, however, there is no custom sounds or screensaver included with the theme.

Previously we did a roundup of some of the Best Christmas themes for Windows 7. However those themes will not work on Windows XP. In this post you will find Christmas themes/theme pack which can be installed and used on Windows XP computers.

Themes do not work out of the box on Windows XP, you will have to apply some patches before you can install a them on XP. The download page contains links to download patches for your computer, make sure to apply them before you use the themes.
