Remember Yahoo Mail? Yes, the same Yahoo! Mail which was one of the best email service at a point of time? Well, Yahoo Mail is basically revamping their whole UI to add support for themes and also bringing back the Calendar and Notes feature to the main interface.

Yahoo! Mail has introduced a host of new themes, which users can use to customize the look and feel of the email interface. Right now, Yahoo provides users with a choice of 12 themes. In addition to adding support for themes, Yahoo has also brought back the Calendar and Notepad and integrated it with the email interface. Yahoo Mail users can also upload multiple attachments at once by using the Ctrl, Shift or Command key to select files you want to upload.

If you are a socially savvy person, you can now catch up on all your social networking updates from sites like Facebook and Twitter in a new tab specifically created for social network updates.

One thing I did not like about the new Yahoo Mail Beta is that they have made it hard to find the Options and Themes features. They have clubbed everything under a menu item called Help, which is totally misleading. Unless a user clicks on the Help link he will not be able to find Options etc.

All these new features are available as part of Yahoo Mail! beta, you will be shown an option to try out the new beta. If you don’t see it, just head over to http://features.mail.yahoo.com/ to try it out.

With Halloween just around the corner, the time is ripe to get into the spirit of Halloween with some spooky Halloween apps. You can already dress up your computer for the festival of scares with Microsoft’s Eerie Autumn theme. Now, I will share a few Android apps that will help you prepare your mobile devices for the occasion.

• Countdown: Countdown the days to Halloween with Days 2 Halloween and Halloween Countdown (paid) widgets.
• Plan: Plan your Halloween party with the nifty Halloween Planner (paid) app.
• Dress up: Dress up your Android with Halloween wallpapers and themes.
• Wallpapers: You can use Halloween Wallpapers by Sancron to download free static Halloween wallpapers to your Android mobile phone. There are also quite a few nifty Halloween themed Live Wallpapers; however, all the good ones seem to be paid. I would recommend the ones from KittehFace Software, Access Lane, live wallpaper, BigMountainSoftware and Wolf Labs.
• Themes: Android doesn’t support themes out of the box. However, many of the 3rd party home screen apps are skinnable. Panda Home users can enjoy Owl’s Prayer and Dark Night Falling themes, while Open Home users can install the series of paid themes created by Bubamara for $1.33. There are quite a few Halloween themes for aHome users too. Happy Halloween for aHome is free, while Halloween Theme 1 and Halloween Themes are paid. Some of the other catchy Halloween themes (for PandaHome, Crazy Home, OpenHome, aHome, LiveHome & dxTop) are Disney Halloween , Pooh’s Halloween and Cutesy Halloween.
• Ringtones: Finally, choose an especially creepy ringtone to finish up preparing your device for Halloween. You can use any of the soundboards available in the market. The ones I liked are Halloween Soundboard Ringtones and Halloween Soundboard Scary apps.

It’s autumn and unsurprisingly Microsoft has released a new Windows 7 theme to go with the season. Autumn is the season that marks the impending arrival of the dreaded winter. It’s the season of melancholy. But, perhaps more significantly, autumn is the season Halloween is celebrated in. The splendid wallpaper collection captures the essence of autumn in a brilliant, albeit slightly unnerving fashion.

While the Eerie Autumn theme is spooky, the Lightning theme is simply awe inspiring. This theme captures Mother Nature at her fiercest. I don’t know about you, but lightning and thunderbolt always manages to send shivers down my spine.

Both the themes are available for download from the official Windows 7 personalization gallery.

Android is ruling the mobile device segment in US. If you are a fan and own an Windows 7, here is your chance to get Android on your desktop using a Windows 7 Theme.

The Android for Windows 7 theme is definitely an awesome theme with nice wallpapers and some good sounds to go with it. If you want it to take it a notch further to your browser, Google Chrome that is, you can download the Android theme for Google Chrome or if you are a Linux user download the Android theme for Ubuntu.

Ambiantastic is a theme for Ubuntu made by swordjr. It is basically a modification of the Ambiance theme, which is the default theme of Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. In Ambiantastic, the polished Ambiance theme has been given a generous helping of orange color to brighten it up. The orange might put off some people, but in my opinion it looks simply fantastic.

So, if you want a new bright theme, try the Ambianstastic Theme.

If you know how to install themes in Ubuntu, go ahead enjoy the new theme. If you do not know, here is how to do it:

• After the download has finished, go to System -> Appearance.
• In the Appearance window, go to Themes and click on Install towards the bottom right.
• In the Selection window, choose the theme you have just downloaded and click on open. At the time of writing this article, it is called 127730-Ambiance III.tar.gz.
• Now the theme should be installed.
• Tthe theme is named Ambiance III here, not Ambiantastic. So select Ambiance III.
• If you have downloaded the wallpaper too, change it from the tab Background.
• Close. Now you should have the new theme and the new wallpaper.

We all love a new theme once in a while to spice up our (boring) Ubuntu desktop. Equinox is a set of two themes for Ubuntu designed by Matthieu James for Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. All I can say about the themes is that they look amazing! Take a look yourself:

Equiniox comes in two themes – a light one and a dark one. The light one is called Equinox Ambient and the dark one is called Equinox Radient. Personally I prefer the light one as the dark one looks too much like the default Ubuntu Lucid theme.

To use the Equinox themes, you need to have the Equinox engine. You can download it from here.

Once you have the Equinox engine, you can then download the theme (download links: 32-bit 64-bit).

Sony Ericsson has just rolled out a new firmware update for the Sony Ericsson Aino. The Sony Ericsson Aino is a slider phone with a 3 inch 240×432 resolution capacitive touchscreen. This is the second major firmware update for the Sony Ericsson Aino. The first firmware update brought with it a new game Loco Rocco and better battery life. This new firmware update also focuses on better battery life, and improves performance and stability.

The new firmware update also includes 3 new themes, along with a new game the Bubble Town 2. The Aino now also supports MIME-type MPEG4-generic video codec. The WLAN and Bluetooth performance of the phone has also improved. Sony Ericsson has been doing a good job by providing major firmware upgrades for all the phones present in their portfolio.

It was just yesterday, that Sony Ericsson had announced that they will release the Android v2.1 update for the Xperia X10 in Q4, this year. The new update will bring with it HD recording, and improvements in the proprietary MediaScape and TimeScape applications from Sony. Sony Ericsson will soon release another update for the X10 which will double the phone’s battery life.

When Canonical’s “Self-Appointed Benevolent  Dictator for Life”, Mark Shuttleworth, announced the new branding of Ubuntu, many asked him if there is going to be new  branding  for other Ubuntu-derivatives like Kubuntu. Shuttleworth replied that there will be new brandings and that the designers at Canonical are working on that.

Now, a part of the new branding for Kubuntu 10.04 and Lubuntu 10.04 has  emerged  with the release of the new plymouth themes for both of them. Sadly, the new theme has not come in  Xubuntu 10.04 yet.

The new plymouth themes in both Kubuntu and Lubuntu are identical in design to that of Ubuntu. The only difference is the logo and the color.

Here are the new plymouth themes for Kubuntu and Lubuntu:

The Kubuntu plymouth theme is not final. As part of the new branding, new logos are being designed for Kubuntu. When the new logos are available, the logo that is used in the plymouth theme right now will be replaced by the new logo.

The some decisions of the Canonical design team regarding the Ubuntu branding did not go down very well with certain sections of the Ubuntu community. When the news of the new Kubuntu branding emerged, certain  sections of the community has already started raising concerns if the design team will make those same decisions for Kubuntu as well.
