Samsung Galaxy S 4G and Epic 4G Android 2.3 Gingerbread Firmware Leaks

A few days ago an Android 2.3 Gingerbread firmware for the AT&T branded Samsung Captivate leaked on the Internet.

Today, Gingerbread firmware for two U.S. variants of the Galaxy S have leaked on the Internet. One of them is the T-Mobile Galaxy S 4G, and the other one is the Sprint’s Epic 4G. This time also, the credit for the leak goes to the folks over at SamFirmware.com.

Galaxy S 4G owners over at XDA forums, who flashed this firmware on their phone, are reporting an improvement in performance and stability of the phone. There are also reports of huge improvement in battery life, with a little bit of tweaking like freezing all the bloat ware etc.

The Epic 4G Gingerbread leak solves most of the graphical issues which was present in the previous leaked Gingerbread firmware. There is also an improvement in performance compared to the previous leak. However, there is a lag of 2-3 seconds while rotating the phone from portrait to landscape mode or vice-versa.

Epic 4G users are also reporting an improvement in network reception, and data transfer speed. This leaked firmware also includes the latest version of Swype (v3), along with TeleNav navigation app.

HTC EVO Shift 4G Android 2.3 Gingerbread Update To Be Available From Tomorrow

The HTC EVO Shift 4G might not be as popular as other high-end Android handsets available from Sprint. However, this does not mean that the Shift 4G is a bad handset.

The EVO Shift 4G is one of the best handsets in the dying breed of hardware QWERTY phones. The handset might not have exactly set the sales chart on fire, but Sprint is still supporting the handset by releasing its Android 2.3 Gingerbread update.

The Android 2.3 Gingerbread update will bring a new Downloads application, and performance and stability improvements. The software update will also squash some bugs including the bug which prevented the Shift 4G to stream media via certain applications. Swype keyboard will also be installed on the handset, post the update.

The software update will be an OTA (Over-The-Air) one, and Sprint will start pushing it to all Shift 4G handsets beginning from June 20th. For the impatient, the update will be available for manual download from Sprint’s server, starting from tomorrow (June 17).

Motorola Triumph Running Stock Android 2.2 FroYo Announced

Along with the Photon 4G, Motorola has also announced the Triumph, which will be available under Sprint’s pre-paid network Virgin. This means, users can buy this handset without any contract.

The Motorola Triumph sports a 4.1-inch screen with WVGA (800×480) resolution. The handset is powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM 8255 processor with an Adreno 205 GPU, and will pack 512MB of RAM.

The back of the handset sports a 5MP camera, with a LED flash, while there is a VGA camera in the front for video-calling. Other key features of the phone include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS with A-GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, microSD card slot with support for up to 32GB cards and a proximity sensor. The handset will also sport a mini-HDMI port along with a micro USB port. It will be powered by a 1400mAh battery.

The Triumph is the first phone from Motorola to run on stock Android 2.2 FroYo, out of the box. The handset is slated to be available sometime this summer. The pricing and other key specifications of the handset will be announced at the time of its release.

HTC EVO 4G Android 2.3 Gingerbread Update To Roll Out From Tomorrow!

Sprint has just announced that they will start rolling Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the HTC Evo 4G beginning from Monday, June 6.

The Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the Evo 4G will bring some much needed bug fixes including the popular SMS bug, along with a new Downloads application. The update will also bring in better copy and paste functionality, and some performance and stability improvements.

The update will be an OTA (Over-The-Air) one, and will be pushed automatically to all Evo 4G owners. For the impatient Evo 4G owners, Sprint will allow them to pull the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update from their servers beginning from tomorrow itself!

Sadly, Sprint has not mentioned whether the Gingerbread version will be Android 2.3.3 or Android 2.3.4. The Evo 4G has a front facing camera, so it can definitely make use of the video chatting capabilities of Google Talk introduced in Android 2.3.4. Also, the update will not bring a newer version of Sense to the Evo 4G, as many have expected.

Some other Gingerbread goodies like the screen-off animation, new keyboard will also not be included in this update.

Sprint Nexus S 4G Gets The First OTA Update – GRJ22

Last year, Google launched the second Google phone, the Nexus S. This handset is manufactured by Samsung and it is the successor of the popular Nexus One smartphone. Sprint recently launched the 4G variant of the Google Nexus S. This handset was available for pre-order from last month and it finally went on sale before couple of days.
