Reckz0r Hacks Sony, Dox Available on Pastebin as Usual

Reckz0r is a known online hacktivist who has been involved in many online hacks and security breaches. What makes him unique, is that he likes to fly solo and regularly exposes (wannabe) security experts who cannot secure their own websites well enough. Nonetheless, Reckz0r has always supported the Anonymous group and is active on Twitter as well.

This time, Reckz0r has brought us some loot from Sony, and dramatically, it appears just in time for the court trials of the LulzSec four. Reckz0r has hacked Sony and posted the looted data on Pastebin. The Pastebin page also gives away an SQL injection vulnerability, however, it seems like not everyone is excited is about this hack. Discordian has criticized Reckz0r on this hack, saying most of the data was already out in the public domain. He wrote on Twitter, saying,

These websites and emails in that pastebin are ALL publically available, can you tell me where the vulnerabilities are listed?

The complete release is available on Pastebin.

In other news, Sony has recorded a loss for the fourth year in a row, and the amount this time is Y457 billion out of which, Y255 billion was in the last quarter alone. To make a comparison, Sony’s loss in the last fiscal year was Y260 billion. This year, a large part of this loss is being accounted to the Thailand floods and the tsunami in Japan.

Sony Unveils The Xperia GX and NX For Japan

Sony has just unveiled two new Android powered handsets for its home market (Japan) – the Xperia GX and Xperia SX. The Xperia GX is the bigger and better of the two, and sports a 4.6-inch HD display with 720p HD resolution and Sony’s Mobile Bravia Engine. It will also sport a whopping 13MP camera at its back aided by an LED flash. The handset has a pretty slim profile, and looks similar to the Xperia Arc/Arc S.

The Xperia SX will sport a much smaller 3.7-inch Braiva Reality Display with qHD (960×640) resolution. Sony also claims that the NX is the lightest LTE handset around in the market. Internally, both the handsets are powered by a 1.5GHz Qualcomm S4 processor, an Adreno 225 GPU, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory. At the back of the handset is an 8MP Exmor R sensor aided by an LED flash.

The handsets run on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with Sony’s custom UI on top of it, and also use on-screen navigation buttons like the Galaxy Nexus. Some Japan specific features like Mobile Wallet, Infrared and Mobile TV will also be present, along with support for LTE networks. The handsets should hit the retail market of Japan sometime this summer.

The Xperia NX and GX are way better than the Xperia NXT line-up of handsets that are available from Sony all over the world. Sadly, these handsets will not be available outside Japan for some strange reason known only to Sony. It looks like Sony is intentionally killing itself by not releasing outstanding phones outside of Japan.

Verizon’s Sony Xperia Play Gets The Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread Update

Verizon and Sony have started rolling out a new software update for the Xperia Play (R800i) in the United States. If any Xperia Play owners are expecting that this update brings Ice Cream Sandwich to their handset, since Sony has already started rolling out the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for some of its Xperia branded handsets then get ready for some disappointment.

The software update carrying the version number 4.0.2.E.0.57 brings Android 2.3.4 to the handset, along with certain new features including the ability to record videos in 720p resolution and bug fixes. Yes, Android 2.3.4 when Sony is releasing Ice Cream Sandwich to Xperia owners in rest of the world.

Below is the change-log of the update -:

Applications

  • Verizon Wireless Video on Demand now comes preloaded.
  • Improved user experience and new delivery method of preloaded games.
  • When connected via Bluetooth®, the Music Player now supports Fast Forward and Rewind.
  • VZ Navigator® has been updated with the latest 3D map improvements.

Device Operation

  • Upgraded to Gingerbread 2.3.4 operating system.
  • A long-press of the power button will successfully capture a screen shot.
  • Charging issues forcing device to remain in landscape mode have been resolved.
  • Recommended contacts now populate correctly when using the dialpad.
  • Camera Improvements:
    • Right trigger successfully captures a picture.
    • Record video in 720p with continuous auto-focus.
  • Device is now enabled with the Wireless Emergency Alerting System.
  • Mobile Hotspot ID broadcast can be turned off to increase security.
Sony had rolled out a similar update for the global version of the Xperia Play back in late November last year. I am not really sure what kind of testing the Verizon testers were doing that it took them nearly 6months to roll-out the same update.

Sony LT29i “Hayabusa” Rumored Specs and Pictures Leak; Is Exactly What The Company Needs!

Back at CES and MWC, Sony announced a trio of new phones, which form a part of its Xperia NXT line-up. However, its flagship phone, the Xperia S, did not really felt like a true 2012 flagship handset. Not only did it sport an older generation Qualcomm S3 dual-core processor, its main selling point – the 12MP camera – was nothing to write home about. Most importantly, the Xperia S runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, which is a strict no-no for a 2012 flagship handset.

However, ever since Sony has taken over Ericsson’s share, the company’s CEO has shown some serious promise about the company’s future. It looks like Sony is working on releasing a new flagship device sometime in early Q3 of this year, codenamed “Hayabusa”. According to rumors, the “Hayabusa” will sport a 4.55-inch 720p display, and will be powered by the next-generation Qualcomm S4 Pro processor that packs in an Adreno 320 GPU.

If   the device indeed uses the S4 Pro SoC, then expect it to be stacked against the Galaxy S III which is expected to trump all other Android phones in benchmarks. The camera at the back of the device is rumored to be a 12/13MP backside illuminated sensor, all packed inside a slim 7mm body with a 2000+mah battery.

If the rumored specs of the device is true, and Sony manages to release the handset sometime in early Q3, it might just be able to bounce back in the stiff competition among Android handset makers.
