Exclusive: Xperia Duo Picture Leaked?

has been working on a lot of new phones lately. Just couple of months back, they launched the Xperia Play and Xperia Arc. Now there have been rumors that a new phone is under works named the Xperia Duo.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Duo Leaked

The Xperia Duo has been rumored since January when the first set of pictures were leaked. Earlier, this month another round of images for the Xperia Duo was leaked.

An anonymous tipster send us a new picture of what might be the Xperia Duo, you can take a look at the image above.  The phone looks similar to other Sony Ericsson models and could actually be the Xperia Duo. What do you think? Is this the actual Xperia Duo pictures?

Thanks Sven.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Android 2.3 Gingerbread Update Coming This August

Sony Ericsson has revealed some more information about the upcoming Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the X10, via their official product blog.

The update is still under development, and the company expects to start rolling out the update from the beginning of August. Originally, the Gingerbread update for the X10 was expected to bring stock Android camera UI, which would have led to loss of features like Face recognition and smile shutter etc. However, SE heard the cries of the X10 owners, and got its developers to port the X10’s Éclair Camera UI to Gingerbread.

The update will also bring the Facebook for Xperia functionality to the X10, which the 2011 line-up of Xperia handsets got a couple of months ago. Other new features which the X10 will get, and are already found in the 2011 range of Xperia handsets include pinch-to-overview gestures, Wi-Fi and USB tethering, Flash support, Apps to SD support, new media experience widgets and a customizable horizontal app tray.

Sadly, this confirms that the X10 won’t be getting 16 Million color display support, an unlocked boot loader and multi-touch support with the Gingerbread update.

Sony Ericsson also confirmed that the X10 Mini Pro, X10 Mini, and the X8 won’t be getting the Gingerbread update, due to the lack of RAM.

Flipkart, a popular online retailer is currently selling the Sony Ericsson W8 Walkman phone in India. Check out the complete specs, after the break.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc Successor Spotted

2011 is turning out to be the year of dual-core Androids. LG has Optimus 2X, Motorola has Atrix, Samsung has Galaxy SII, and HTC has Sensation. The only major Android handset manufacturer that is yet to join the party is Sony Ericsson. SE’s current flagship device, the Arc, runs on a single core Scorpion chip. However, SE almost certainly has a dual core Android handset in the works.

Xperia-Duo

At this moment, absolutely nothing is known about the successor to the gorgeous Xperia Arc. However, a picture of a previously unseen Xperia device has surfaced on the Chinese website Mobibal. Aesthetically, the new Xperia handset looks similar to the Xperia Pro. The sharp square edges present in the X10 and the Arc have made way for a more roundish look. The screen also seems to be a ginormous one, and might even be bigger than 4.3 inches. The Xperia blog believes that this device will be called the Xperia Duo. If the name seems familiar to you that is because earlier rumors had suggested that the Xperia X10 Mini Pro successor is going to be called the Xperia Duo.

Needless to say, there is a good chance that the entire thing is a fabrication. However, Sony Ericsson has never been very good with secrets. What ever the truth is, expect it to be revealed over the coming weeks through more leaks.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Gingerbread Update Might Deliver Multi-touch and More

Sony Ericsson has come a long way since last year, when it released its first Android handset the Xperia X10. It got a lot of things wrong with the X10. However, it seems to have learnt its lesson. This year it launched the Arc and the Neo with the latest version of Android. It decoupled its custom skin (UX) from the Android core. It gave users of the new Xperia handsets the option of unlocking the bootloader. It backtracked on its initial announcement, and decided to provide the Gingerbread update to the Xperia X10. It delivered dual touch to the X10. And, Sony Ericsson doesn’t seem to be done yet.

Sony-Ericsson-Xperia-X10If Sony Ericsson Brazil is to be believed, then the new update will introduce full multi-touch support to the Xperia X10. As mentioned above, Sony Ericsson delivered dual-touch to the X10 through a firmware update released earlier in the year. While dual-touch is good enough for pinch-to-zoom, two-finger scrolling, and other simple operations, it is often not good enough for gaming. SE Brazil reiterated in the comments section of its blog update that the new update will indeed deliver full multi-touch, and promised more details soon. The multi-touch issue has been a sensitive one for Xperia X10 owners since Sony Ericsson has changed its position multiple times. While this news will undoubtedly excite Xperia X10 owners, it will also raises a very important question. Full multi-touch support through nifty software tricks is impossible. And if the Xperia X10 hardware was capable of multi-touch all along, then why did Sony Ericsson insist to the contrary?

Unconfirmed chatter also suggests that Sony Ericsson might deliver multiple other improvements including 16 M colors, new kernel, and an unlocked bootloader. The update is scheduled for Q3, 2011; however, don’t be shocked if it is released earlier.

Sony Ericsson Announces The Mix Walkman And Txt Pro Feature Phones

Today, Sony Ericsson has announced two new feature phones, the Walkman branded Mix and the txt pro.

The Sony Ericsson Mix Walkman phone looks similar to the Xperia Mini, but has the Walkman theme all over it. The phone will sport a 3-inch touch screen with WQVGA resolution. One unique feature of the Mix is that it will sport a Zappin’ button. When a user presses the button, the phone will automatically preview the chorus of the next song.

The txt pro looks similar to the Xperia Pro and packs a four-row slide-out QWERTY keyboard along with a 3-inch WQVGA touch screen. The handset will have a Friends’ application, which will provide users with the updates of all their friends from Facebook and Twitter.

Both the phones pack a 3.2MP camera at the back, and also include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3.5mm audio jack and a microSD card slot with support for up to 32GB cards. Sadly, both the phones lack support for 3G. The handsets will also have a four corner UI, similar to the ones found in the Xpera Mini range of handsets.

The handsets are expected to hit the retail stores sometime in Q3 of 2011, at an unknown price.

AT&T’s Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Android 2.1 Update Rolling Out Now

Sony Ericsson rolled out the Android 2.1 Éclair update for the Xperia X10, X10 Mini and the Mini Pro back in November last year.

Now, nearly 6 months later, AT&T and Sony Ericsson have finally started rolling out the Android 2.1 update for the AT&T branded X10’s in the United States. Along with the bump in the Android OS version, X10 owners will also get 720p HD video recording, dual-touch support, increased home screens, face detection in video recording and continuous autofocus.

The Sony Ericsson Product Blog states that they couldn’t be more excitedabout releasing this update to the end user. I wonder what are they so excited about. All the popular handsets from HTC and Samsung are receiving the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update, and Sony Ericsson is getting excited on releasing the obsolete Android 2.1 update for the X10.

However, X10 owners in the United States should not blame Sony Ericsson for this. AT&T is the reason behind this delay in the Android 2.1 update. Also, thanks to AT&T, X10 owners in the United States will never get the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update which Sony Ericsson will release sometime in Q3 of this year.

X10 owners in the U.S. should head over to this link to get the update for their handset.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Gets A Firmware Update

Along with the Xperia Arc and Play, Sony Ericsson has started rolling out a new firmware update for the older generation Xperia branded handsets the X10. Apparently, the update is also being rolled out to the Xperia X10 Mini, Mini Pro and the X8.

The new firmware update does not bring any major changes, and nor is it the anticipated Android 2.3 update for the X10. The update is basically aimed at improving the general system performance and stability.

X10 users over at XDA who have updated their phone to the latest firmware (2.1.B.0.1) report performance improvements, smoother operation, and improvements in camera image quality as well. The Timescape app is also much smoother now. The firmware update also includes a new baseband, so users should expect an increase in network reception along with higher data transfer speeds.

The new firmware is also root able, so users don’t need to worry about losing root access to the system partitions. At the moment, the firmware update is being rolled out only in Germany. Expect this firmware update to roll out in more regions of the world beginning from tomorrow.
