Sony Ericsson UK Confirms Android 2.1 Upgrade For X10

Sony Ericsson promised earlier that the update to Android 2.1 for Xperia family will release in Q4 2010. This didn’t went down well with the X10 owners. Finally, Sony Ericsson decided to roll out the update before end of September this year.Sony Ericsson Android 2.1

Sony Ericsson UK via their twitter account confirmed this news. Sony Ericsson for rolling out the Android 2.1 update in September, decided to delay the Mediascape and Timescape update for Q4 2010. This was a good decision by them because both these applications are missing common must have features, few X10 users actually use them.

Finally, for those who own a X10, you don’t have to wait longer for Android 2.1 to come on your device.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini And X10 Mini Pro Gets New Color

The two Xperia X10 minis, the X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro will be getting new colors in selected markets from next month. The Xperia X10 Mini will get a Gold color, while the Xperia X10 Mini Pro will get a girlie Pink color. The new colors is for the back covers of the phone, the front part will remain the same.

The Xperia X10 Mini’s buttons on the front will also have a Gold color. The gold color on the X10 Mini is glossy and is eye catching. The Xperia X10 Mini Pro’s pink color will be appealing for girls.

The hardware of both the phones is the same, the only difference is the physical QWERTY on Xperia X10 Mini Pro. Both these phones run Android 1.6 and will be upgraded to Android 2.1 in early Q4 this year.

The extra cost of these new colors is still not disclosed.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini and Xperia X10 Mini Pro Rooted

Xperia X10 Mini and Mini Pro – the diminutive beauties from Sony Ericsson, have finally been rooted. The root procedure is fairly simple, but not automated. The Xperia X10 Mini root utilizes the Exploid method, which was also used to root the Droid X. An alternate procedure to root the X10 Mini is also available. However, this method doesn’t appear to be as universal as the aforementioned Exploid technique.

Now that all of the X10s have been rooted to gain superuser privilege, the next step is to unlock the boot loader (full root). Developers are already very close to cracking open the Xperia X10 and porting Cyanogen. Hopefully, its smaller siblings will also get the same treatment. Head over to xda-developers for the root instructions and guidance. Although the entire process is straight forward, you can theoretically end up with a bricked phone if you are not cautious. Also keep in mind that this might (and probably will) void your warranty.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 And X10 Mini Updates To Come In Q3

Sony Ericsson previously announced that, the Android 2.1 update for Xperia X10, X10 mini and X10 mini pro will roll out in Q4 2010, which was highly disappointing for the users. But today, Sony Ericsson at their product blog confirmed that the Android 2.1 update with HD (720P) recording feature for Xperia X10 will roll out in Q3 2010.

Sony Ericsson at their product blog said,

” Previously on this blog we communicated that we will update our 2010 Xperia phones (Xperia X10, X10 mini and X10 mini pro) to Android OS 2.1 in Q4. We are today happy to confirm that all of these phones will now get the update to Android 2.1 from the latter part of Q3 and onwards (timing will vary from market to market, some will be in Q4. Please follow this blog for further information with regards to exact timing of the upgrades). We are of course very glad to offer this upgrade earlier than originally planned. Xperiaâ„¢ X10’s position will also be further strengthened through the addition of HD video recording as part of the same Q3 upgrade. A further upgrade to the Xperiaâ„¢ X10 in Q4 will make it possible to connect and display wirelessly content on your television and enhance the Timescapeâ„¢ and Mediascape applications.”

This means that Sony Ericsson has decided to roll out the Android 2.1 update earlier and improving their Timescape and Mediascape application later, which is a very good move. Hopefully, the Android 2.1 update will roll out in the end of Q3 (depending on market). The Xperia X10 users have something to cheer now.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8 (Shakira) Unseen Photos Surface

Remember the smaller brother of the X10 we told you nearly a couple of weeks ago? Some unseen pictures of the bigger brother of the X10 Mini, and the smaller brother of the X10 have been published at Se-nse blog. The X8 handset will be known as the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8. Earlier, the X8 was known by its code name – Shakira.

Looking at the pictures published on the blog, the phone lacks a LED flash. The screen size of the phone will be around 3.2-inch to 3.5-inch. The XPERIA X8 will also feature the proprietary Sony Ericsson MediaScape and TimeScape UI.

Also from the above pictures, the phone looks quite bulky. As of now, there is no information available about hardware specifications of the device. We need to wait for the official announcement from Sony Ericsson for the hardware specification of the phone, or for a leak.

In all probability, the hardware specification of the phone will be similar to that of the X10 Mini.

Sony Ericsson Declines to Comment on Android 2.2 (Froyo) Upgrade

Sony-Ericsson-Xperia-X10-Android-Update Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 hit the shelves last month and the X10 Mini will become available in most parts of the world over the next few days. The Xperia X10 product line is a commendable effort from Sony Ericsson. This is all the more impressive since the Xperia X10s are SE’s first Android handsets.

In many ways, Xperia X10’s biggest advantage is the UX platform – a custom Android shell with dazzling features like Timescape and Mediascape. However, it is also turning out to be Xperia’s biggest drawback. The heavily modded user interface (UI) means that Sony Ericsson is having a much harder time keeping up with Android’s feverish release cycle.

It has already been confirmed that Sony Ericsson will be updating its Xperia X10 product line to Android 2.1 this fall (Q4 2010). However, this is clearly not enough to appease the hundreds of thousands of Xperia owners around the world. Earlier this month, Google delivered Android 2.2 (Froyo), and Android 3.0 (Gingerbread) is scheduled to be released this fall. This would leave Sony Ericsson hopelessly behind.

Xperia owners and fans have been petitioning for a well-defined upgrade path. However, for the moment, Sony Ericsson seems content to keep mum. Mattias Holm, product public relations manager at Sony Ericsson, confirmed to PC World that Sony Ericsson will be implementing later versions of Android in its products. However, at this stage it is premature to disclose information about individual products.

At first glance, Holm’s statement seems to indicate that Sony Ericsson may not upgrade all of its handsets to Froyo Android versions. However, given that the Xperia X10s are all that Sony Ericsson has managed to release so far, this seems a bit unlikely. It’s equally improbable that Sony Ericsson would leave out the big brother and just upgrade X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro. So, there is hope yet for Xperia X10 owners. But, the wait is probably going to be a long one.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 will get Android 2.1 Update and HD Video Recording

Sony Ericsson at their Product Launch Blog made an official statement that the Xperia X10 will get an Android 2.1 update by Q4, 2010. Now, that is too long to wait.

Sony Ericsson’s Sumit Malhotra said that they are working on the UXP (UX platform) for Xperia X10, X10 mini and X10 mini Pro. He also said that X10 mini and X10 mini Pro will get Android 2.1 update by Q4, 2010.

The exciting and happy side for the Xperia X10 users is HD video recording will also come onboard with the update on Q4,2010. The video recording will be the same execution as in Sony Ericsson Vivaz. He also said that an update will be coming for the Xperia X10 within few weeks for solving the bugs related to battery.

Here is the change log given by Sumit Malhotra:

Some examples of user benefits that will be included in the UXP upgrade for Xperiaâ„¢ X10 in Q4 2010 are:

– Upgrade to Android OS 2.1

-HD video recording as per the same execution as Sony Ericsson Vivazâ„¢

-Wireless home connectivity via DLNA

-Improvements to signature applications Timescapeâ„¢ and Mediascape to make them even smarter and richer

This update could be mixed bag for X10 users because on one side this is horrible in terms of time and on the other side features like HD video recording (continuous auto focus), which is a very good news. On the whole the users have to wait for a long time, but the fruit of patience will be sweet.
