10 New Animated Screensavers – Yellow, Green and Blue Themes

screensaver-ico[Windows Only]
As many of you have learned by now, not all free screensavers are created equal. Many times, free means that you have to install stupid toolbars, adware and other unwanted junk along with the screensaver. That’s not true of the ones at NewFreeScreensavers.com. Here are the most recent additions to the site.

nfsBoobleFlower nfsClockPointer nfsColorAbstractLine nfsColorDotsYellow nfsDigitalClockClouds01_2 nfsGreen nfsGreenAbstractionBlur nfsMicrobe nfsRandomBlue nfsStarsBlue

Just a few days ago, I told you about the Bugs, Birds, Fish and Flowers screensavers. Now a new set of ten brings you some colorful themes and a unique time clock made from clouds. Another addition to the site lets you snag the top ten most popular screensavers in one easy download. It’s so tempting to try out all of these new ones, but I’m going to have to be careful that I don’t fill up my hard drive.

Over the last few months, I’ve installed twenty or thirty of the screensavers at this site, and I’ve never had a problem with any of them. All of these screensavers are safe, totally free, and there are dozens more to check out once you visit.

Techie Buzz Verdict:

Most of these screensavers are silent, but the ones that aren’t may not have a setting to turn off the sound. Some of these might include a tiny message at the bottom of the screen that displays the website address. It’s not very noticeable and other than that, these are all very well done.

Techie Buzz Verdict:

The only thing I found missing in this set of screensavers was a way to turn off the sound. Each of the above five has a running water background sound that starts out soft but gradually became too loud for me. Therefore, I recommend that you mute the PC before allowing them to start. Otherwise, these are all very lovely and mesmerizing.

Clouds and Sky Make Great Screensavers

[Windows Only] The folks at NewFreeScreensavers posted a letter to me the other day. They’ve released a few new screensavers that I thought you might like to see. Here’s what the letter said:

Hello
Today Newfreescreensavers.com offer you ten more new free screensavers. Now there are more Nature free screensavers (waterfalls, sky, clouds) on our website. Some waterfall free screensavers are designed for HD monitors and from my point of view look fabulous. All new nature free screensavers will create a relaxing atmosphere and will decorate your monitor when it is idle. For those who prefer life in a city Newfreescreensavers.com has released a screensaver called Night. Download Night screensaver and enjoy the lights of a night city life.

Unlike the screensavers at a few other free sites, I’ve always found these to be completely free from ads and other junk that you don’t want. Below are screenshots of my favorite two screensavers from this latest batch.

NFS Clouds This one has a rapidly changing scene with clouds and sunlight rolling across a pastoral setting.

NFS Sky This one makes you feel like you are riding on the nose of a jet as the clouds fly by you.

Super Photo Slideshow Screensaver – JPEGSaver

display-ico Most Windows systems already come with a nice built in screensaver for viewing the pictures you’ve stored on your hard drive. In Windows XP it’s called My Pictures Slideshowand it includes the basic settings you need to show your pictures when the computer is idle. Here’s an screenshot of the settings for it.

my-pictures-slideshow

As you can see, the settings page is pretty simple. Many people complain that it doesn’t handle different size images very well and it doesn’t let you change images any faster than 6 seconds. I’ve also seen people complain that Windows 7 has even fewer options for displaying your photos in a screensaver.

Now you can get tons of options with the latest version of JPEGSaver. It works in all Windows versions and it’s still fairly easy to use.

Here’s what the settings for JPEGSaver looks like.

jpegsaver-settings

Take a look at all of those tabs. Each tab gives you far more control over how your photos are shown in the screensaver. It even lets you choose multiple folders of photos for it to display.

JPEGSaver does require a minimum of DirectX 9, and it will check your system for the correct DirectX files while it installs.

Techie Buzz Verdict:

If you need more options when viewing your photos as a screensaver, JPEGSaver can be a life saver. Once installed it’s as easy to use as any of your other screensavers.

Defragging the Easy Way – Disk Defrag Screen Saver

If you can’t live without a fancy looking screen-saver, move on, this review isn’t for you. However, if you’d like a screen-saver that actually does something useful, then this is a good option.

defrag-icon If you don’t know what it means to defrag a hard drive or why you need to do it regularly, you might want to read this article at Wikipedia. You may also be interested in some of the other free defragmentation tools we’ve mentioned here at Techie Buzz.

There’s a fairly new defragger out there named Auslogics Disk Defrag Screen Saver. I ran into a mention of this freeware tool last week and gave it a try. I’ve used the standard Auslogics defrag tool for many years. The only problem I’ve had recently is getting to the Auslogics website. Their home site seems to be having some problems, so I’ve provided a link to the software below.

Why do I like it? It’s very easy to set up and use. Download it, install it and set it up. The setup is basically the same as any other screen-saver. When you are in your screen-saver options, just click the settings button and you’ll see a window with a very simple choice for you to make.
auslogics-defrag-screensaver-settings

Other than the normal time settings that you’d have with any screen-saver, the only option is to choose which hard drive you want to defrag.

Whenever your computer goes idle and the screen-saver kicks in, here’s what you will see.

auslogics-defrag-screensaver

This defrag tool works just as well as most other defraggers I’ve tried over the years. However, I can’t count the number of minutes or hours I’ve spent waiting for a manual defrag session to finish. With the new tool from Auslogics, you will never wait. It’s working when you aren’t.

Note: This isn’t a new idea. JK Defrag (now called MyDefrag) has a screen-saver option as well. I wrote an article about it almost 3 years ago.

Techie Buzz Verdict:

There’s no reason not to try this tool. It works well and it performs a very useful service at no cost to you and no loss of time. You can have an awesome looking screen-saver that does nothing for you, or you can use a tool like this to save you time and trouble.

Techie Buzz Verdict:

This is an great collection of free screensavers all packed into one master screensaver. The only drawback is that most of these do not work well unless you have a good graphics card. Otherwise, I’d have given this app a very high rating.
