Sprint launched the Android powered Sanyo Zio during October 2010. This handset comes with the unique Sprint ID, which allows the Sanyo Zio users to quickly download ID packs that deliver a predefined experience, including applications, widgets, ringtones and wallpapers. Sanyo Zip originally runs on the Android 2.1 operating system, but Sprint recently announced that the Sanyo Zio users will get the much awaited Android 2.2 (FroYo) update from this week.

Sanyo Zio comes with a 3.5 inch WVGA touchscreen display with virtual QWERTY keyboard, intuitive trackball for easy navigation, 3.2 megapixel camera with auto-focus and video playback, MP3 player, Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR, 512MB internal memory, MicroSD card slot, 32GB expandable memory, 2GB microSD card included, GPS, upto 4.6 hours of talk time and a 1130 mAH battery.

Sprint will roll out the Android 2.2 update for the Sprint Zio users starting from February 25th. The Android FroYo update will allow you to access more than 200,000 apps from the Android Market. It also comes with the ability to load apps on the MicroSD card, improved browsing experience, Flash Player 10.1, Bluetooth voice dialing, GPS enhancements and more. The Android 2.2 update will be pushed over a 5-day period, so please don’t panic, if you don’t receive the update on February 21, you will definitely get the it by the end of this month.

This handset was originally available for $99.99 on contract, but now you can get this handset for free with a 24 months service agreement.
