Samsung has started rolling out the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy Note. The update comes nearly a month after the company started rolling out the update for the Galaxy S2.

The Jelly Bean update for the Korean company’s first phablet brings a lot of new features including many of the software gimmicks that are present on the Galaxy S3 and Note 2. Samsung has completely ditched the older TouchWIZ UI on the Note in favor of the new nature inspired TouchWIZ UX as seen on the Galaxy S3 and Note 2.

Other features that the Galaxy Note gets from the Note 2 and Galaxy S3 include Smart Stay, Multi-Window multi-tasking, Pop-Up Play, Direct Call, Page Buddy and an updated Gallery app. The usual Jelly Bean features like Project Butter for buttery smooth UI performance, Google Now, and enhanced voice-to-text input with offline mode are also present.

The update is being rolled out in batches and is currently only available in Hong Kong and Taiwan, with a wider push expected to happen soon. The Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update is in all likely going to be the last major Android update for the Galaxy Note, which is now nearly 1.5 years old now. Framaroot Roots Exynos Powered Samsung Devices In One-Click

An XDA member, alephazin, has released a new application that is capable of rooting all the Exynos and OMAP running Android devices in just a single-click. The application uses a new frodo exploit to gain root access.

According to the developer, the application can successfully root the following Samsung devices -:

  • Samsung Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch – SPH-D710
  • Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100
  • Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300
  • Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE GT-I9305
  • Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 2 GT-N7100
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 2 LTE GT-N7105
  • AT&T Galaxy Note 2 SGH-I317
  • Verizon Galaxy Note 2 SCH-I605
  • Samsung Galaxy Camera EK-GC100
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus GT-P6210
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 GT-N8000, GT-N8010, GT-N8013, GT-N8020

Until Samsung fixes the exploit, you can successfully use Framaroot to gain root access on your Samsung device. The application also works on OMAP powered devices, but until now, has only been tested on some of the Archos tablets.

Samsung devices have generally been ridiculously easy to root, usually requiring the use of ODIN and a pre-rooted kernel. Sometimes, the method is made even more easier, thanks to some exploit, like the recent security bug that was found in all the Exynos powered devices from Samsung. The exploit allowed users to root their Galaxy device by simply installing and running an APK from XDA. The exploit was patched within a few weeks by Samsung in nearly all the affected devices.
