Samsung recently amazed the Samsung Captivate owners by rolling out the much-awaited Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) update. Sadly, this update is not available via OTA (Over-The-Air).

A couple of days ago, Samsung and Sprint started rolling out the Android 2.2 Froyo update for the Samsung Epic 4G. Today, AT&T has announced that they will be rolling out the Android 2.2 update for the Samsung Captivate handset from tomorrow!

Nearly a week ago, we had reported that Samsung might be intentionally holding back the Android 2.2 update for the Samsung Vibrant in the United States. Since then, another rumor popped up on the Internet that the update is not being rolled out because of a tiff between the U.S carriers and Samsung.

The Samsung Galaxy S series of handsets have been selling like hot cakes all over the world. However, the phones have their share of issues including poor GPS signal and ‘lag’ or ‘stalling’ issue. The Korean company has been slowly rolling out the update to unlocked devices in various regions of the world. It was just a couple of days ago that the company started rolling out the Froyo update in India.

Today, Samsung Mobile Canada on their Facebook page has given a time-frame for the Android 2.2 rollout for the various carrier branded Galaxy S handsets. First and foremost, the Vibrant from Bell and the Samsung Captivate from Rogers will get the Froyo love by mid-December.

The Galaxy S series from Samsung were expected to get the Android 2.2 (Froyo) update by the end of last month. Sadly, Samsung failed to meet the said deadline and pushed the release back to the last month of October.

Samsung and AT&T have just announced that they will be releasing a software update for the Samsung Captivate. Earlier today, Verizon had also announced a software update for the Samsung Vibrant.

Good news for all Samsung Epic 4G owners and modders! Samsung has released the source code of the Epic 4G, which is greatly going to help the modding community in cooking Custom ROM for the handset.

The Samsung Galaxy S is available in the U.S under the T-Mobile and the AT&T network. T-Mobile sells the device as the Samsung Vibrant while AT&T sells it as the Samsung Captivate.
