Nokia Beta Labs, which is on a roll these days, has introduced yet another update to its Social Networking app: Nokia Messaging For Social Network. Nokia Messaging for Social Networks now supports S40 devices too. Along with that, Nokia Messaging for Social Networks for S60 has also been updated and now supports DM’s, View Profile, Mark tweets as favorites and more.

Change Log includes:

• Facebook Upload photos to selected album
• Facebook Timestamp improvement
• Twitter Direct message
• Twitter Post with Location
• Twitter View   profile of people you are following and posted tweets
• Twitter View own profile and posted tweets
• Twitter Mark as Favorite
• Lots of Bugfixes.

From my experience, Nokia Messaging for Social Network yet does not give complete Social networking experience due to lack of features. I would rather use the eye candy all-in-one Gravity app for the same. Since it’s just in beta we can expect some cool features to be added soon.

Seems like Nokia is all set for a new QWERTY phone. Nokia has always put usability over design but this seems like a gross misadventure that Nokia had. This phone is NOT good looking. As for performance, we can only hope for the best.

NewQWERTY

There are very few details about this one except that it features a 5 MP camera and runs on Symbian 3. A 5 MP camera means that it should be hosting a respectable processor – probably ARM 11 368 MHz.

It also sports a totally outdated QVGA screen. This suggests that it should fall under the lower price bracket.

Nokia has updated its Nokia Image Exchange for S60 phones and is now available for download. Nokia Image Exchange is an experimental imaging service for Nokia S60 Mobile Phones through which you can share all your images with your friends in a very convenient and effortless manner. Nokia Image Exchange also makes your images easily available in its web interface which can then be viewed/downloaded onto a PC.

Apart from the regular bug fixes, the new version of Nokia Image exchange includes the addition of Notifications. Notifications alerts you about the new images from your friends present in the People menu, comments to your images and images that you have commented. Also a few new settings has been added to gain more control on the notifications.

However, it must be noted that the new version is still not supported by touch devices, which is feel is an epic blunder. Touch screen devices is considered as the Hot cake’ in the market and keeping them away from the release is huge mistake. 

Mobbler, one the best S60 client for last.fm music scrobbling, recently got an update. The new version 0.07(6187) now supports S60v5 devices like Nokia 5800 and Nokia N97.

Ever since I got Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, I am glued to listening music on it. I am happy that I can now share my music library details with my friends, through last.fm and Mobbler.

I faced few problems buffering the song. The track stops in between and just wont work and I have to go to next track to entertain myself. And it happens with most of the tracks. Is it the same with you? Hope Mobbler guys update/fix this soon.

Other than that, it consumes loads of RAM. But then it’s fine for me, as I don’t do much when I listen to songs.

I, personally, was very much vexed with the way Symbians handle messages. Moving them from phone to mem cards is a very lengthy and boring process. Here is an easy way to do the same without using your PC.

• Open up any file manager like Xplore or FExplorer

• Go to E:\Private on your memory card

• Look for a folder named something like 1000484b.

• Inside it, you’ll find another folder named Mail/Mail2

• Copy the 1st folder(one named 1000484b) to C:\Private

This will put all your messages in your phone memory. Do the reverse (move the files from C:\ to E:\) to move messages from phone to memory.

S60V2 users should note thet the messages are saved in E:\System\Mail.

The new E-series Promises a lot of feature improvements. Lets take a closer look.

Looks/Form Factor:

Before you even a hold a Nokia E75 in your hands you would think that it would weigh much more than it actually is, this feature packed phone has a Qwerty keyboard in it. To put things into perspective, my brother was really surprised when he discovered that this sleek phone had a QWERTY keyboard in it.
The E75 comes with two keypads, a Alpha numeric and a QWERTY. The QWERTY keyboard slides out smoothly. Even though you may spend some time accustoming to the QWERTY keypad, once its done I am sure you’ll type at the speed of 180KMPH.

The keypad on front is not too too to use. Most of the keys are combined and its not too difficult to press two-three keys at a time ;) . But its a good option till you get used to the QWERTY keypad. Most keys like Call recieve/calendar and message/reject/switch off are combined which gets time to get used to.

The shiny cover for at the back gives the phone very rich look. But the battery cover is so delicate that shake the phone and it falls out, along with the battery. Maybe the fault with the piece i am using though. The back side comes with tiny speakers which aren’t that loud. Just besides the speakers is located the 3.2MP camera with Flash.

On the top there’s a standard 3.5mm head phone jack, which ensures you get to listen music with your favorite headphone. The switch ON/OFF button is combined with call reject/messaging. On the left side there’s USB slot and Memory slot, while on right side there’s volume high/low and camera buttons. NEAT.

Display:

The 2.4 inch QVGA screen is pretty neat. The brightness level is quite impressive. E75 is the first E-series decide to come with S60 V3 FP2.

Camera:

The 3.2 Mega Pixel camera is quite impressive coming from a business series. There’s no improvement in the camera application though, My Sony Ericsson does better job for editing with picture, but then its a business phone. These pictures look pretty descent. Taken at normal sunlight without flash. 3.2 megapixel auto focus camera comes with geo tagging feature, its pretty handy if you use services like flickr and other photo sharing sites to share pictures with.

I couldn’t make video calls to work with he secondary VGA camera on the front.

Calendar: E75 comes with excellent Calendar with time management features. It has five different types of event management settings available- Meeting, Meeting request, Memo, Anniversary and To-do.

Documents: E75 comes with descent office file support documents supporting .doc, .xls, .pdf. I transferred few files from pc to the phone to check how it opens up and decently. I opened one 7MB .xls sheet without any problem. The preinstalled .pdf reader is a disappointment though. I couldn’t make the document fit to the screen so causing difficulty in reading the files. E75 also comes with a default .ZIP manager which comes pretty handy. I UNZIPPED 25MB file with no problems, though it took long time.

Contact Switch:

If your previous phone was a Sony Ericsson then transferring contacts is a pain. Bluetooth transfer didn’t work. Transfer from PC suite didn’t work. Neither did the default Switch application from Nokia.

But transferring Contacts from Nokia-to-Nokia worked smoothly with the Switch application.

Data:

The E75 comes with Class 32 GPRS,Class 32, 296 / 177.6 kbits EDGE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, UPnP technology, Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP, No infrared and USB connection slot.

GPS:

E75 comes with built-in GPS receiver and preinstalled Nokia maps. The nokia maps has a lot of features for normal usage.

Music:

I dint find much changes in the Music player. You can set up your music library as per your favorite Artists, Albums, Playlists, Songs, Podcasts, Genres and Composers. The audio output is infact low. For much better experience i had to download strands music player.

Calls:

The call experience from E75 has to be superb. The smart dialing with both the keypads gives you the best of experience. Just type few letters or numbers and the phone shows up contacts with letters/numbers containing it. Even for calling there are many options like voice(normal)/video/internet call. The internet call in my device was set to call with Gizmo VOIP service.

Messaging & Email:

The messaging just got better. Nokia superbly integrated the messaging system with its email. Configuring email again is not a big deal. Just input your address & password and the domain and its done. other than that, there is no change in smsing system.

Battery life:

The 1000 mAh Li-Ion (BL-4U) battery impresses me much. Even with continues usage of net on 2-3 applications and calls i managed to make the battery to work for 5 hours.

Verdict:

Nokia E75 is an impressive business phone with all necessary business features inbuilt. The QWERTY keypad is impressive and gives you actual PDA experience. The battery life too handles the vast features that phone offers.

Though the phone doesn’t offer any thing extraordinarily features, it fits well for business usage. 

Google has released a new application that will work with S60 devices, the new app will allow users to search content on the web with relative ease.

Google Mobile App adds an option to quickly search content from the home screen with the press of a button, pressing the quick key provides users access to Google search, Gmail, calendar, YouTube quickly and easily.

The Google Mobile App also adds your current location to the bottom of the screen, this in turn helps Google to provide you with local search results that relate to where you are.

Google Mobile App stores a history of searches you have done, making it much more easier to search for something again, in addition to that it also offers suggestions as you type.

Vodafone unveiled its new device Nokia 6730. Nokia 6730 is a S60 device which will be available exclusively on Vodafone network. The Nokia 6730 Classic, which will be available from June. It continues the push of S60 into mid-tier devices, using the platform to take services to the mass market.

Nokia 6730 is a upgraded version of Nokia 6720, though with same hardware as Nokia 7620 the external design of Nokia 6730 is slightly changed.

Its a unfortunate thing that Nokia’s OVI store is not available on this device.

In the past we have told you about several free services that you can use to sync the contacts and calendar on your mobile phone. In addition to that we have also reviewed Synble a application that will allow you to sync SMS, contacts and more.

Google on the other hand offers a similar tool that will allow you to synchronize contacts and calendar entries with your Google account.

The Google Sync Beta has now been made available for phones running the Symbian S60 OS.

Google Sync offers two-way, over-the-air contacts and calendar synchronization. This means that you can make changes to your contacts and calendar on your phone or in your desktop Google account. Since Sync uses push technology, the changes should automatically appear within minutes. And your information is constantly syncing, so it’s up-to-date and securely stored within your Google account, even if you lose your phone.

However to use Google Sync on your S60 device, you will have to install a Nokia software on your phone which is related to Mail for Exchange.
