Last month, Samsung unveiled the first two devices under the new Galaxy Mega family of smartphones. As the name suggest, these smartphones comes with an oversized touchscreen display. Today, Samsung launched the first smartphone under this new range, the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 in India. It is also the company’s second device which runs on the latest Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) Operating System. Reliance Offers Unlimited Facebook Messenger Access For Just Rs.16

We have a good news for Facebook addicts. Most of the operators in India have already launched the unlimited BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) plan, which allows the BlackBerry users to enjoy unlimited BBM access for just Rs.129 per month. Along similar lines, Reliance Communications recently launched the new Facebook Messenger plan.

You can subscribe to this plan for just Rs.16. It comes with a validity of 30 days. The new Facebook Messenger plan offers unlimited access to Facebook Messenger without subscribing to any other data plans. This plan will prove to be extremely useful for those who does not want to subscribe to any costly data plans, but still want to get in touch with their Facebook friends on the go.

Sadly, this pack is currently available only for pre-paid subscribers. The plan is auto-renewed every 30 days unless the user unsubscribe it manually. Facebook Messenger is currently available for iPhone, BlackBerry and Android. You can also use Facebook Messenger even if you do not have a Facebook account. Similar to WhatsApp, the new Facebook Messenger for Android allows you to sign up with just using your name and phone number. You can download the app from fb.me/msgr.

Reliance Launches The Unlimited BBM Plan For Just Rs.129

BlackBerry smartphones are not only used by professionals, but they are also used by students in India. Most of them does not need the BlackBerry Enterprise services, hence paying Rs.500 – Rs.1,000 only for the use of BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) was not the perfect solution. To solve this problem, Airtel, Vodafone, Idea and Tata Docomo launched the “Unlimited BBM” plan for Rs.129. As the name suggest, the Unlimited BBM plan allows the BlackBerry users to use unlimited BBM service.

Reliance Communications (RCom) has announced a similar “Only BBM” plan for its subscribers in India. The new Only BBM plan is available for both prepaid and postpaid subscribers. This plan allows Reliance subscribers to use unlimited BBM service on their BlackBerry smartphones for 30 days. Apart from the unlimited BBM usage, Reliance also offers 600 local and national SMS per month for prepaid subscribers and 500 local and national SMS per month for postpaid subscribers.

To activate the Only BBM plan, prepaid subscribers will need to send a text to 53739 with the keyword ‘ACT BBMPRS129′. On the other hand, postpaid subscribers will need to call *389 from their Reliance phone or 1800 3000 8989 from any other phone. The unlimited BBM plan offered by Reliance is much better than the plans offered by other operators, since you will not only get unlimited BBM usage but also free local and national SMS.

Nokia Announces Ovi Store Operator Billing On Reliance Mobile

Back in 2009, Nokia launched the Ovi Store, which allows you to download and access free apps as well as paid apps on the Nokia smartphones. While it was not possible in India to purchase apps via operator billing, most of the American and European countries already has the operator billing service. This service lets you download paid apps from the Ovi Store and the amount is deducted from your pre-paid account or charged in your postpaid account.

Finally, after waiting for more than a year, Nokia launched the operator billing service for its Ovi Store in partnership with Reliance Communications in India. Now, Nokia users can easily pay for the paid apps from their Reliance number. If you are a prepaid Reliance users, then the amount will be deducted from your pre-paid account. If you are a postpaid users, then the amount will be reflected in the monthly mobile phone bill.

Commenting on this alliance, Prashant Gokarn 3G Head, Reliance Communications, said, Nokia and RCOM relationship brings exclusive apps through Ovi Store coupled with a convenient purchase process. This service will usher in significant growth in adoption and usage of apps in India. This service is a big step in a series of innovation led products from RCOM.

Reliance Launches 3G Services In India

Last month we posted that Reliance Communications was expected launch its 3G services in India before the end of 2010 and now the company has finally launched its 3G services in 4 circles. Reliance has grabbed 3G license for 13 telecom circles in India Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, North East, Jammu & Kashmir, Orissa and Assam, out of which they have started 3G services only in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chandigarh (Punjab) circle.

Reliance is the first private operator to launch 3G services in top 3 metros of India. The company has rolled out 3G services in a record time of around 100 days of receiving the 3G Spectrum. Tata Docomo offers highest speed of 21 Mbps, but you will be surprised to know that Reliance 3G network is capable of offering peak speeds upto 28 Mbps.

Reliance Launches Mobile Data Portal For 3G Services

Reliance Communications is gearing for the upcoming 3G wave in India and for this it has launched a new mobile data portal called R World. The portal will provide users with a complete 3G end-to-end mobile Internet and data services to 120 million Reliance mobile subscribers. The portal is powered by Motricity’s mCore platform.

With R World, users can access their email (Gmail, Windows Live, Ovi Mail) and social networks (Facebook, Twitter) with one login thus keeping the users out of hassles to re-enter different passwords and user IDs over and over again. R-World has a RSS reader using which users can browse through feeds and add them to their home page and get the most relevant news, sports and content.

Reliance Communications has secured 3G spectrum rights in 13 circles which include the metros Delhi and Mumbai and some cities in the category ‘C’ circle and plans to launch 3G services by the end of December this year. R-World for 3G will definitely help Reliance mobile subscribers to get started with 3G.

Reliance Comm. Brings Twitter To SMS And Launches Voice Blogging

Twitter and other social networks have become so famous in India now that even handset makers in the country list their handset’s ability to talk to these social networks – a feature! On similar lines, Reliance Communications (RCom) has tied up with Twitter to make the microblogging website available to users via SMS.

RCom has also launched a social voice blogging service in an association with Bubble Motion, which will make it easy for users to become a follower of famous Indian celebs and stay up to date with text and voice updates directly from their favourite celebrities. RCoM is bringing in a number of famous Indian celebrities including leading Bollywood stars and singers who will launch this first-of-its-kind voice-based mobile blogging service in India.

In order to add a Twitter account to their mobile, customers have to send an SMS to the Twitter short code 53000 to sign up with the service. After getting registered, customers can start following their celebrities and catching up with friends. The service is currently available for free of charge till November 30.

Reliance Comm To Launch 3G Services By Year-End

Tata Docomo became the first private operator to launch its 3G services in India. Last month Airtel announced that it will launch its 3G services from December end. And now, Reliance Communication became the third private operator to announce its 3G services in India.

Syed Safawi, the company’s head of wireless business, said at an investors conference that Reliance will launch its 3G services in India by the year-end. Reliance Communications has grabbed 3G license for 13 telecom circles in India Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, North East, Jammu & Kashmir, Orissa and Assam.

Tata Docomo already launched its 3G services in India. On the other hand Airtel, Reliance, Aircel, S-Tel and Idea will launch their 3G services by December end. Vodafone is the only operator that will launch its 3G services from next year. Reliance 3G signals are already live in some parts of Mumbai and the company will offer speed upto 21mbps. Simply Unlimited CDMA Plan from Reliance Offers Monthly Unlimited Calls

Reliance-Unlimited-CDMA-Calls Reliance Communication (R-Com) has launched a new tariff model for its pre-paid customers, which offers unlimited talktime for a flat monthly fee. The ‘Simply Unlimited CDMA’ offer is available in two flavours:

Simply Unlimited CDMA Local Pack: The local pack offers unlimited local calls to any Reliance phone (CDMA, GSM and Landline) as well as virtually unlimited local free calls to any other network. STD calls to any network will be charged at Rs. 0.50 per minute.

Simply Unlimited CDMA National Pack: The national pack offers unlimited calls (STD as well as Local) to any R-com phone in India, along with virtually unlimited calls to other networks.

The Local pack costs Rs. 299 per month, while the STD pack is available for a monthly rental of Rs. 599.

Most of you are probably wondering what R-com means by virtually unlimited calls. It is nothing but a misleading PR jargon. According to Medianama, what Reliance actually means by virtually unlimited calls is that subscribers will be getting 30 minutes of free calls per day or 900 minutes of free calls per month. If you exceed the 30 min of free talktime/day, you will be charged at Rs. 0.50 per minute.

Reliance GSM Mobile Services Launched In Goa

Reliance recently launched its GSM mobile services in Goa. The services of Goa region comes under the Maharashtra and Goa circle. Reliance GSM services in Goa are available on both prepaid and postpaid. They offers simple tariff on local and STD calls, roaming and SMS under its “Simply Reliance” initiative.

1 paisa per second:
Price: Rs.58
Validity: 365 days
Benefits: Local and STD calling at 1 paisa per second.

50 paisa per minute:
Price: Rs.48

Benefits: Rs.1 for 3 minutes will be charged on all local and STD calls.

Mr. Akshay Kumar, Regional Head, Rcom (Mumbai, Maharashtra, Goa, Tamil Nadu and Kerala) stated that, “The launch of GSM services delayed in Goa due to stringent licensing rules in this particular place.” The company aims to achieve the milestone of another 100 million subscribers in 1000 days.

Reliance Offers Free Calls To Any Reliance Numbers On March 28

Today, in the morning, while I was reading the Mumbai Edition of Times Of India, I was surprised to see the huge Reliance Mobile ad on the front page. The ad states that “Reliance has achieved 100 million subscribers in India and to celebrate this achievement, they offers free Reliance to Reliance calling anywhere in India on March 28, 2010. ”

RCom To Launch App Store

CDMA and GSM telecom service provider, Reliance Communications is set to launch its own App store. RCom, will soon launch Mobile Applications Stores across the country through its data portal, RWorld. Just this morning we saw the news of another operator, Airtel launching its own App store. By the end of March, even Aircel would be launching its app store.

RWorld 2.0 would be 3G ready and will support all latest features available on mobile handsets such as on-device portals, idle screens, widgets and RSS readers. The first version of the store would go live on GSM handsets later this month and the expanded version will be launched across CDMA and GSM handsets later this quarter. Reliance Communications has a customer base of 100 million.
