Comment Save Saves Your Comments History In Chrome

I visit hundreds of sites everyday and comment on quite a few of them. In addition to that I also comment on lot on my friends posts on . Commenting is fun, but there are times when I want to refer to a conversation or follow-up on whether it has got any reply or not. I could of course bookmark the post and go back to it later.

Save Comments Chrome

Now, what if you had a service which keeps track of all the comments you make across the internet (at-least some part of it) and displays it to you whenever you want? Impossible? No. Thanks to a new Chrome called Comment Save, which basically saves all the comments you make on Facebook, WordPress sites, Gawker sites, Forums, Yahoo! Answers and news sites like CNN, New York Times and Guardian amongst others.

I gave the extension a run on and it works as advertised. It also provides you with a full-page view of all the comments you have made and an option to delete all or selected comments from the history.

Overall I found this extension to be pretty neat way to track conversations on the web from a centralized location. However, I would like to see a cloud-implementation for the storage so that I can have access to my comments across multiple computers.

Nevertheless, this extension provides a good and secure way to keep track of your conversations and is a highly recommended download from me. Go ahead and give it a try.

Lock Tab Alerts You Before Closing A Tab or Window in Google Chrome

One of the most annoying problems I have had with is the fact that it does not alert you whenever you close the entire window with multiple tabs open. This can lead to problems at certain times as you have to go back to the history to find out which tabs you accidentally closed.

Quite sometime back, I had told you about a solution to overcome accidental browser closure in Google Chrome, however, I just came across a which locks tabs and alerts you when you try to close it or load a new URL in it.

Lock Tabs in Google Chrome

Once you install the Lock Tab extension, you will see a small lock icon in the address bar, clicking on this will lock the tab by adding a small JavaScript code to it.

lock_tab_close_alert

If you try to close the tab or load a new URL in it, you will see a alert as shown in the screenshot above. This will happen when you try to close the tab you locked or the entire Chrome window. If you want to close down the tab or window, just click on the "Leave this Page" button. This extension is definitely useful and will get you over some of those Oops moments where you accidentally close your browser by mistake. To unlock a tab just click on the lock icon once again.

Update: I just ran into a similar extension called "Windows Close Protector" which does the same job. Once you get a solution there is no dearth of options eh ;-).

Techie Buzz Verdict

techie-buzz-recommended-software[1]

In my experience of using Google Chrome I have always had the problem of closing entire windows accidentally, and since Chrome has explicitly refused to add an option to set an alert before closing the entire browser window, this extension is definitely very useful.

Once you enable a lock on one of the tab it will allow you to choose the close or keep open action for the entire Window. As with other extensions, this will not work in Incognito mode.

So What’s Making Me Sleep Early These Days?

Believe it or not. I should have been an owl. I bet while I was being made, God’s assistant mistakenly handed over an owl’s sleep-processor instead of a human’s. But anyway, I have been able to adopt some human-like sleeping characteristics in the past few weeks. Thanks to F.lux.

[All platforms] F.lux is a program for your computer that adjusts the screen color temperature according to the time of the day bright like sunlight during the day, mild and warm during the night.

F.lux does not change the brightness of the screen, but the color temperature of the display. Artificial   or indoor lighting is warm or yellowish in tone and natural or sunlight is always blue (theoretically). So while using the computer in the day, F.lux automatically adjusts the color tone of the display to a cooler, brighter level matching it to the sunlight outside. Similarly, the application warms up the display and gives a milder tone during the night.

Due to the similarity between the natural color temperature in your vision and the color temperature on the screen that you may sit in front of for hours, the eyes are not strained. When the eyes are not strained, are instead relaxed, you are more likely to sleep early.

The FAQ page on the application’s website gives answers to some obvious questions:

Isn’t this exactly the same as the Macbook ambient light sensor?

No, but they do work together. The ambient light sensor measures the brightness of the light in your room and adjusts the brightness of your screen based on that. f.lux changes the color of your screen and warms it up according to the type of light you’re using and the time of day.

f.lux doesn’t use ambient brightness to adjust colors. You might be in a dark room with very cool light, you wouldn’t really want your monitor to look warm, but you would want your display to look dimmer. We’ve found that when your screen colors match the color of your ambient light correctly, you don’t need to adjust monitor brightness as much.

What is color temperature, exactly?

The term color temperature is a way to numerically describe how much red or blue light is illuminating a room. Color temperature is measured in Kelvins, and is determined by the kind of light you’re using.

Confusingly, warmer (more red) light sources are described in lower degrees Kelvin. Compared to indoor lighting, sunlight is cool – very blue. A candle is around 1800K, while a sunny day might be 6000K. An overcast day will seem more blue, so it might be around 7000K.

Most computer monitors display around 6500K. If you are using incandescent task lights behind your computer, those are around 3000K.

greenshot_2010-01-23_01-33-22

F.lux automatically detects your location and time zone and can then adjust the display settings accordingly. You can also slide the buttons and set the display settings as you desire.

Most certainly, F.lux is not made for graphic designers and other colors-sensitive work, so keeping that in mind, there is also a checkbox in the program settings that disables the program for an hour.

f.lux makes your computer screen look like the room you’re in, all the time. When the sun sets, it makes your computer look like your indoor lights. In the morning, it makes things look like sunlight again.

F.lux is available for Windows, Mac and Linux. Download F.lux.

Emerald Window Manager: Must Have Ubuntu Software

Window decorations and effects is a powerful feature of the Ubuntu compiz package. But, the themes we generally use are not able to skin the window border and add effects to it in a complete manner.

To get this desired effect, we can use the Emerald Window Manager.

Emerald Window Manager is an application which binds with the compiz desktop to provide us with added effects like shadow and glass pane on the window borders.

emerald-theme

The Window manager comes with many built in window decorations which we can use. In addition to this, many downloadable window decorations are also available. We can also edit the decorations to adjust the depth, width and height. The glass pane can also be customized to a huge extent. The title bar can be set to roll up or maximize right from the emerald settings. Emerald is a must have application for customizing the look of your windows.
Emerald themes come as .emerald files. To open an emerald theme file, simply double click it. It opens with Emerald. Emerald theme files are really small in size and are applied as soon as we select them in the application.
The theme might not work as desired initially immediately after the installation. In such a situation, enter into a terminal:

emerald --replace

to install Emerald, enter the given code into a terminal:

sudo apt-get install emerald

Techie Buzz Verdict:

This is the only software of it’s kind in Ubuntu. The theme files are extremely small in size and are available readily at www.compiz-themes.org and www.gnome-look.org. Applying themes is very easy and tinkering with the settings can give a variety of effects. The application has some initial problems while loading the window borders for the first time. From next run, it works like a breeze. It works with all Ubuntu based distributions.

Perform Actions When Copying Text to Clipboard

Most of the times when we copy a URL, we want to open it in a web browser. When we copy an email address, we want to send a email to someone. When we copy a explorer path, we want to open and browse the folder.

As you can see, some actions are done to perform another one. Wouldn’t it be awesome, if we had a intelligent software that could sense what we want to do, and automatically allows us perform those tasks, based on what we copy? You guessed right, we found something that will do that for you.

open_browser_when_copying_url open_mail_client_for_emailing

Clip Monitor is a awesome software, which will automatically detect what you are copying and offer you to perform the default actions based on the text that has been copied. For example, if you copy a URL, it will offer you an option to open a web browser that points to that URL. If you copy a email address, it will offer to open the default email client and open a compose email window. If you copy a explorer location, it will offer to open the explorer window and browse to that location.

In addition to that, if you copy images to clipboard, it will offer you to open your default image editor. If you want to exit the software, just copy the text exitand the software will automatically close itself.

Techie Buzz Verdict

techie-buzz-recommended-software[1] ClipMon is a awesome software and could turn you into a productive powerhouse, if it comes with more customization and options.

Even in its current state it is a really useful software, however, greedy as we are, it would be good if the software allowed users to define custom actions based on clipboard text. For example, say I want to open Microsoft word, i just copy word, and it gives me an option to open Microsoft Word. Having an option to predefine actions and keywords would be something that we want the developer to add to this software.

Rest assured, this is a , without doubt. Go ahead and make yourself more productive.

techie-buzz-recommended-software[1] This is an awesome application for Twitter users who frequently share screenshots or images on twitter. With a wide range of supported services for uploading images, this app makes it a breeze for many users.

The only sore point is that the app does not support OAUTH validation, which is the norm these days for associating an application with twitter, without having to give out your password.

In addition to that, this app does not provide an option to modify the used to take screenshots, and upload them to twitter. This becomes a bit of problem if you use multiple screenshot software, like in my case. I don’t want to modify the shortcut keys for my regular screenshot software, and ScreenTweetr will only work if I turn my regular screenshot software for creating blog images off.
