Last night at E3, Sony announced that it is bringing its PlayStation certification to more handheld devices including the ones from HTC. The Japanese company has opened its PlayStation Mobile program, formerly PlayStation Suite, to HTC’s handsets.
“HTC is focused on delivering innovative mobile experiences for people everywhere and SCE’s immersive world of gaming will bring compelling entertainment to HTC One customers across the globe,” said Kouji Kodera, Chief Product Officer, HTC Corporation.
What this means is that HTC handset owners will get access to some of the classic and popular PlayStation games including Crash Bandicot etc. This move will also provide HTC handsets with exclusive access to some of the PlayStation certified games, and should give the company’s handsets a competitive edge over Samsung’s and Motorola’s.
As of now, only the One series of handsets from HTC will be getting the PlayStation certification which includes the HTC One X, One S and the One V.
The PlayStation Suite a.k.a PlayStation Mobile program was not really successful in the first place to begin with. The program did however manage to bring some games to the PlayStation Certified devices like the Xperia Play, which remained exclusive to the platform for quite a few months (FIFA). Hopefully, this move from HTC and Sony will help not only the program, but both the companies handset sales as well.
