LG to Launch the Optimus Pad at MWC 2011

Rumors of the LG Optimus Pad, an Android tablet by LG first started circulating in October 2010. Details of the LG T-Mobile G-Slate were also leaked a few weeks back. Today, we have more details of the Optimus Pad. It seems that it’s identical to the T-Mobile G-Slate, but will be available worldwide.

A leaked press release by Hankyung reveals the launch details as well as the hardware specifications for the LG Optimus Pad. It will have an 8.9 inch capacitive touchscreen display with 3D support as well as multitouch capabilities. It will have a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels.

It will be powered by the Nvidia Tegra 2 platform and will come with a dual core processor, and will likely have 1 GB RAM.

It will also have a 5 MP camera with dual LED flash and a front facing camera. It will have 32 GB internal storage and should come with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS etc. It also has a 6400 mAh standard Li-ion battery powering it. It will run the latest version of the Android OS – Android 3.0 Honeycomb, which has been designed specifically for tablets, probably with a customized UI shell. LG to Launch the Optimus Pad in Q1 2011

The Samsung Galaxy Tab should soon see some serious competition; according to a report by a Chinese blog,   the LG Optimus Pad will be launched in Q1 2011.

The only two major contenders in the tablet market today are the Apple iPad which has captured over 95% of the market and the Galaxy Tab which has just been launched.

LG had earlier stated that the current version of Android – Android 2.2 Froyo was not suited for the tablet form factor; that it was holding out for a more suitable variant.

Today, it announced that it will be launching the LG Optimus Pad in Q1 2011. It will run Android 3.0 Honeycomb which will natively support higher resolutions. It will be powered by the Nvidia Tegra 2 platform and will have a 8.9 inch capacitive touchscreen display.

The tablet wars are soon going to start, and the iPad is what each of the new tablets has in its crosshairs.
