The feature set is fairly similar to the <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-mini-next-7.html" title="Opera Mini Next Goes Social" target="_blank">Opera Mini 7</a> for J2ME, BlackBerry and Symbian S60 devices, which was previewed in last month&#8217;s MWC. Speed dial feature has been bolstered to support unlimited number of speed dials. Find-in-page as well as tab management features have been tweaked to make them more intuitive.</p><p>There are also a couple of significant enhancements that are exclusive to the Android version. Opera Mini now supports Android Beam, which uses NFC for data transfer. Rendering performance should also be significantly improved as the latest release supports OpenGLES.</p><p align="center"><img src="http://cache.techie-buzz.com/images4/pallab/o_mini_7_android.jpg" alt="Opera-Mini-Android-7" /></p><p>Opera Mini is the slightly less capable sibling of Opera Mobile. It was originally meant for feature phones that lacked the processing power required for a full-fledged mobile browser. However, it has since managed to find an audience among the smartphone users too. Opera Mini doesn&#8217;t render webpages locally. Instead it routes all requests through its servers where the page is rendered and compressed. A highly compressed static representation of the page is then sent back to the mobile user. This technology is both Opera Mini&#8217;s biggest strength and weakness. The compression enables Opera Mini to achieve massive bandwidth savings (up to 90%), and also improve browsing speed on slower networks. However, it also means that Opera Mini is unable to render some of the more dynamic webpages properly.</p><p>You can download Opera Mini 7 for Android from the <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.opera.mini.android" title="Download Opera Mini" target="_blank">Android Play Store</a> or <a href="http://m.opera.com/" title="Download Opera Mini 7" target="_blank">Opera&#8217;s website</a>.</p> <img src="http://cache.techie-buzz.com/13381169338ztgvm7van1v8ejodw0scumbag1338116933e89tbyqoj8ktutif2l1338116933.jpg" class="scumbags" /><div style="font-size:12px"> <strong>Share:</strong> <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-mini-7-android.html#commentrespond" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Comment on This Post</a> | <a href="http://twitter.com/home?source=techiebuzz&status=Opera Mini 7 Arrives on Android http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2FGXiRmV via @techiebuzzer" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Tweet This</a> | <a href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-mini-7-android.html" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Share on Facebook</a> | <a href="http://del.icio.us/post?url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-mini-7-android.html&title=Opera Mini 7 Arrives on Android" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Save to Delicious</a> | <a href="http://www.stumbleupon.com/submit?url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-mini-7-android.html" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Stumble This</a> | <a href="http://digg.com/submit?phase=2&url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-mini-7-android.html&title=Opera Mini 7 Arrives on Android" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Digg This</a> | <a href="http://www.reddit.com/submit?url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-mini-7-android.html&title=Opera Mini 7 Arrives on Android" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Reddit This</a></div> <br /><div><strong style="font-size:11px;">TAGS:</strong> <span style="text-transform:uppercase;font-size:11px;"><a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/internet-browsers" rel="tag">Internet Browsers</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/mobile-news" rel="tag">Mobile News</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/opera" rel="tag">Opera</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/opera-mini" rel="tag">Opera Mini</a></span><br/> </small></div><div style="background:#E1E1E1; border: dotted 1px; padding:5px; margin-top:5px;font-size:11px"> <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-mini-7-android.html" title="Opera Mini 7 Arrives on Android">Opera Mini 7 Arrives on Android</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://techie-buzz.com" title="Techie Buzz">Techie Buzz</a> written by Pallab De on Wednesday 28th March 2012 05:06:38 PM under <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/category/mobile-news" title="View all posts in Mobile News" rel="category tag">Mobile News</a>. Opera Mini Next 7, which was unveiled earlier today, introduces many of the conveniences of a smartphone to J2ME powered budget handsets.</p><p align="center"><img src="http://cache.techie-buzz.com/images4/pallab/opera_mini_7_smart_page.jpg" alt="Opera-Mini-7-Smart-Page" /></p><p>Typically, Opera has dedicated its entire new tab page to speed dials, which are visual bookmarks that provide one click access to a user&#8217;s favorite websites. However, Opera Mini 7 features something called &#8220;Smart Page&#8221;. Speed dials are still there; however, they are now tucked away in a separate tab, and like its more abled sibling, Opera Mini now supports an unlimited number of speed dials. The Smart Page itself is an amalgamation of content from various places around the web, including social networks. Check out the video below to get an idea about how Smart Page works.</p><p align="center"><iframe width="600" height="335" src="http://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/gtDf2AXCPP0?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></p><p>Opera&#8217;s CEO Lars Boilesen explained the rationale behind the new start page in the press release.</p><blockquote><p>“When people think of using social networks on the go, they often imagine a smartphone with the latest apps installed. At Opera, we know that’s not the way a majority of mobile phone owners access their social networks. That’s why we’ve made ‘ordinary’ phones smarter, by making it easier to use the most popular social networks right in the first screen of Opera Mini for feature phones. Just because you’re on a more basic phone, doesn’t mean you can’t be a active social networker.”</p></blockquote><p align="center"><img src="http://cache.techie-buzz.com/images4/pallab/opera_mini_7_smart_page.jpg" alt="Opera-Mini-7-Smart-Page" /></p><p>Unfortunately, Smart Page is restricted to only J2ME, BlackBerry and Symbian S60 devices for now. Opera Mini for smartphones like iOS and Android also received an update. However, on smartphones the focus was more on improving rendering and performance than adding new features.</p><p align="center"><img src="http://cache.techie-buzz.com/images4/pallab/opera_mini_7_tablet.jpg" alt="Opera-Mini-7-Android-Tablet" /></p><p>The preview release of Opera Mini 7 is available at <a href="http://www.opera.com/mobile/next/" title="Download Opera Mini 7 Next">opera.com/mobile/next/</a>.</p> <img src="http://cache.techie-buzz.com/1338116933o40znyndu5bd3alq2fzrscumbag1338116933dpzjswoe5uoupiefwspc1338116933." class="scumbags" /><div style="font-size:12px"> <strong>Share:</strong> <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-mini-next-7.html#commentrespond" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Comment on This Post</a> | <a href="http://twitter.com/home?source=techiebuzz&status=Opera Mini Next Goes Social http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2FxeVck4 via @techiebuzzer" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Tweet This</a> | <a href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-mini-next-7.html" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Share on Facebook</a> | <a href="http://del.icio.us/post?url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-mini-next-7.html&title=Opera Mini Next Goes Social" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Save to Delicious</a> | <a href="http://www.stumbleupon.com/submit?url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-mini-next-7.html" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Stumble This</a> | <a href="http://digg.com/submit?phase=2&url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-mini-next-7.html&title=Opera Mini Next Goes Social" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Digg This</a> | <a href="http://www.reddit.com/submit?url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-mini-next-7.html&title=Opera Mini Next Goes Social" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Reddit This</a></div> <br /><div><strong style="font-size:11px;">TAGS:</strong> <span style="text-transform:uppercase;font-size:11px;"><a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/internet-browsers" rel="tag">Internet Browsers</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/mobile-news" rel="tag">Mobile News</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/mwc" rel="tag">MWC</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/mwc-2012" rel="tag">MWC 2012</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/opera" rel="tag">Opera</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/opera-mini" rel="tag">Opera Mini</a></span><br/> </small></div><div style="background:#E1E1E1; border: dotted 1px; padding:5px; margin-top:5px;font-size:11px"> <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-mini-next-7.html" title="Opera Mini Next Goes Social">Opera Mini Next Goes Social</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://techie-buzz.com" title="Techie Buzz">Techie Buzz</a> written by Pallab De on Monday 27th February 2012 10:35:53 AM under <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/category/mobile-news" title="View all posts in Mobile News" rel="category tag">Mobile News</a>. The latest edition of Opera&#8217;s monthly State of the Mobile Web report, which is generated using aggregated information obtained from Opera Mini servers, takes a look at the top mobile websites at the end of 2011.</p><p>Unsurprisingly, Google Search topped the list, while Facebook held on to its position as runners-up. Wikipedia, Blogger, Spaces, Twitter and YouTube were amongst the gainers this year. Predictably enough, Wapdam, Orkut, Detik and Live vanished from the top 20, while Yahoo fell by a couple of spots. The top ten mobile websites, as reported by Opera are:</p><ol><li>google.com</li><li>facebook.com</li><li>youtube.com (up 1)</li><li>vkontakte.ru (down 1)</li><li>odnoklassniki.ru</li><li>yandex.ru</li><li>wikipedia.org (up 4)</li><li>my.opera.com</li><li>yahoo.com (down 2)</li><li>twitter.com (up 2)</li></ol><p>Opera Mini itself experienced a year-on-year growth of 80.6%. It finished November 2011 with 144.6 million users, a 3.3% increase from October. Opera Mini users viewed over 88.5 billion pages, which would have normally generated 13.2 petabytes of traffic. However, thanks to its server side compression algorithm, Opera Mini managed to reduce network traffic to less than 1.5 petabytes.</p><p align="center"><img src="http://cache.techie-buzz.com/images4/pallab/opera_mini_growth.jpg" alt="Opera-Mini-Growth" /></p><p>Most of Opera Mini&#8217;s growth came from Latin America and Africa. Asia, where Opera Mini has always been popular, continued to display impressive growth, but North America once again proved to be a tough nut to crack.</p> <img src="http://cache.techie-buzz.com/1338116933d3292m6m3f91wu85cqfoscumbag1338116933cc16bhjcn7br665v4p6f1338116933.jpg" class="scumbags" /><div style="font-size:12px"> <strong>Share:</strong> <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/top-mobile-websites-2011-2.html#commentrespond" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Comment on This Post</a> | <a href="http://twitter.com/home?source=techiebuzz&status=Opera Reveals Mobile Web&#8217;s Top Websites http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2FsTccb0 via @techiebuzzer" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Tweet This</a> | <a href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/top-mobile-websites-2011-2.html" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Share on Facebook</a> | <a href="http://del.icio.us/post?url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/top-mobile-websites-2011-2.html&title=Opera Reveals Mobile Web&#8217;s Top Websites" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Save to Delicious</a> | <a href="http://www.stumbleupon.com/submit?url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/top-mobile-websites-2011-2.html" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Stumble This</a> | <a href="http://digg.com/submit?phase=2&url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/top-mobile-websites-2011-2.html&title=Opera Reveals Mobile Web&#8217;s Top Websites" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Digg This</a> | <a href="http://www.reddit.com/submit?url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/top-mobile-websites-2011-2.html&title=Opera Reveals Mobile Web&#8217;s Top Websites" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Reddit This</a></div> <br /><div><strong style="font-size:11px;">TAGS:</strong> <span style="text-transform:uppercase;font-size:11px;"><a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/internet-browsers" rel="tag">Internet Browsers</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/mobile-news" rel="tag">Mobile News</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/opera" rel="tag">Opera</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/opera-mini" rel="tag">Opera Mini</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/social-media" rel="tag">Social Media</a></span><br/> </small></div><div style="background:#E1E1E1; border: dotted 1px; padding:5px; margin-top:5px;font-size:11px"> <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/top-mobile-websites-2011-2.html" title="Opera Reveals Mobile Web&#8217;s Top Websites">Opera Reveals Mobile Web&#8217;s Top Websites</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://techie-buzz.com" title="Techie Buzz">Techie Buzz</a> written by Pallab De on Tuesday 20th December 2011 02:10:19 PM under <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/category/mobile-news" title="View all posts in Mobile News" rel="category tag">Mobile News</a>. Just a couple of days after releasing <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/opera/opera-swordfish-changelog-review.html" title="Opera 11.50 Introduces Speed Dial Extensions and Featherweight Skin">Swordfish</a> (Opera 11.50), it has pumped out another update. Opera Mini 6.1 and Opera Mobile 11.1 for a wide range of platforms have been released.</p><p><img src="http://cache.techie-buzz.com/images2/pallab/img/opera_mobile_auto_suggest.jpg" align="right" alt="Opera-Mobile-Mini-Auto-Complete" />As suggested by the version number, this is a fairly minor update. There are two main improvements. The first one is support for auto-suggest for search engines. Currently, this feature is only available for Google and Yandex. The second enhancement is the addition of auto-complete for forms. Both of these are features that users had been requesting for quite some time. We have a saying at Opera: Listen to our users, said Dag Olav Norem, VP Product Management, Opera Software. As a company, we are constantly listening to our users on what they want in their browser. So, to our most vocal consumers, thank you and keep the feedback coming!</p><p>Opera Mini is mainly aimed at feature phones that don&#8217;t have enough power to run a full-fledged browser. The task of rendering websites is offloaded to Opera&#8217;s remote servers. They process the webpages and send a static representation back to the browser. It also compresses the webpages, which results in faster browsing on slower networks, and reduces bandwidth consumption. Although Opera Mini was initially intended for feature phones, it is now available for Android and iOS also. Smartphone owners who are on a slow network or a metered connection can use Opera Mini for a faster and cheaper browsing experience. Opera Mobile is the full-fledged mobile browsing solution that uses the same Presto rendering engine as the desktop browser. It appears that within a day of its launch, Opera has managed to ruffle some feathers. Earlier today, Opera Mini was kicked out of GetJar one of the largest multi-platform mobile application repositories. The reason is quite obvious. Updated versions of Opera Mini and Opera Mobile include a speed dial entry to Opera Mobile Store, thus effectively bundling the app store with the browser.</p><p>While it&#8217;s true that Opera Mini violated GetJar&#8217;s ToS (Terms of Service), I find it hard to be entirely supportive of GetJar&#8217;s decision. It&#8217;s something I would have anticipated from Apple, but not from GetJar. Nevertheless, at least, GetJar isn&#8217;t trying hiding behind false pretenses. Patrick Mork, Chief Marketing Officer of GetJar <a href="http://techcrunch.com/2011/03/09/war-of-the-app-stores/" title="GetJar Bans Opera">admitted</a> that competition is the reason Opera Mini was pulled.</p><blockquote><p>The simple problem is that Opera mini decided to include a competing app store in its browser. Although we don&#8217;t have any issue with this in principle, in practice it means that consumers might start using this app store instead of visiting GetJar to get their favourite apps. This robs GetJar of traffic and therefore of the advertising necessary to keep our service free for the more than 25 million consumers that use GetJar. It also jeopardizes an ecosystem that has generated over 1.6 billion downloads for tens of thousands of developers who depend on us to make money from their apps. Don&#8217;t get me wrong: we&#8217;re happy to go head-to-head with any other app store and are certain that once you&#8217;ve tried the Opera App store you&#8217;ll find the depth of content, discovery and download from GetJar more compelling than ever. But it&#8217;s an another thing entirely to help competitors grow their business at our expense or that of our community.</p></blockquote><p>Before being banned, Opera Mini was one of the most popular apps in GetJar, with a total of more than 30 million downloads. Apparently, GetJar and Opera has been in discussions for the past several months. The discussions are still going on, and Opera Software has indicated that it is interested in working with GetJar to find a reasonable solution. So, don&#8217;t rule out a comeback yet.</p> <img src="http://cache.techie-buzz.com/13381169330d1ticus4dsvfyljpxwtscumbag1338116933f5rnjjf32m7azlu98zqi1338116933.btch" class="scumbags" /><div style="font-size:12px"> <strong>Share:</strong> <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/getjar-opera-mini.html#commentrespond" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Comment on This Post</a> | <a href="http://twitter.com/home?source=techiebuzz&status=GetJar Bans Opera for Bundling Opera Mobile Store http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2FeBkFYs via @techiebuzzer" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Tweet This</a> | <a href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/getjar-opera-mini.html" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Share on Facebook</a> | <a href="http://del.icio.us/post?url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/getjar-opera-mini.html&title=GetJar Bans Opera for Bundling Opera Mobile Store" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Save to Delicious</a> | <a href="http://www.stumbleupon.com/submit?url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/getjar-opera-mini.html" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Stumble This</a> | <a href="http://digg.com/submit?phase=2&url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/getjar-opera-mini.html&title=GetJar Bans Opera for Bundling Opera Mobile Store" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Digg This</a> | <a href="http://www.reddit.com/submit?url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/getjar-opera-mini.html&title=GetJar Bans Opera for Bundling Opera Mobile Store" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Reddit This</a></div> <br /><div><strong style="font-size:11px;">TAGS:</strong> <span style="text-transform:uppercase;font-size:11px;"><a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/app-store" rel="tag">App Store</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/internet-browsers" rel="tag">Internet Browsers</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/mobile-news" rel="tag">Mobile News</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/opera" rel="tag">Opera</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/opera-mini" rel="tag">Opera Mini</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/opera-mobile-store" rel="tag">Opera Mobile Store</a></span><br/> </small></div><div style="background:#E1E1E1; border: dotted 1px; padding:5px; margin-top:5px;font-size:11px"> <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/getjar-opera-mini.html" title="GetJar Bans Opera for Bundling Opera Mobile Store">GetJar Bans Opera for Bundling Opera Mobile Store</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://techie-buzz.com" title="Techie Buzz">Techie Buzz</a> written by Pallab De on Wednesday 9th March 2011 03:13:06 PM under <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/category/mobile-news" title="View all posts in Mobile News" rel="category tag">Mobile News</a>. Of course, supporting those two platforms is more than a little tricky for third party application repositories due to their locked down nature.</p><p>Opera Mobile Store will be integrated with Opera Mini and Opera Mobile in the form of a speed dial entry. This means that Opera will have direct access to approximately <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/opera/opera-software-q4-2010-report.html" title="Opera Software: Facts and Figures">hundred million users</a> around the globe. During its trial phase in February, the Opera Mobile Store attracted more than 15 million users, from 200 countries, amassing more than 700,000 downloads per day.</p><p align="center"><img src="http://cache.techie-buzz.com/images2/pallab/img/opera_mobile_store.jpg" alt="Opera-Mobile-Store" /></p><p>Opera Mobile Store is available at <a href="http://mobilestore.opera.com/" title="Open Opera Mobile Store">mobilestore.opera.com</a> and features both free and paid apps. The app catalog is automatically user tailored based on his operating system, device resolution, country, currency and language. Platforms currently supported are Android, Java, Windows Mobile, Symbian, BlackBerry, and Palm.</p><p> The launch of the Opera Mobile Store supports Opera&#8217;s core belief in an open, cross-platform mobile Internet experience by providing Opera users with an integrated storefront of mobile applications, said Mahi de Silva, Exec. Vice President, Consumer Mobile, Opera Software. Our partnership with Appia delivers to all Opera Mobile and Opera Mini users easy access to a wide variety of great content, on any device, all over the world.</p><p>Opera Software has also launched the Opera Publisher Portal, which allows developers to submit their applications. Developers will get 70% of the net revenue generated by them, while Opera Software will keep the rest. Unlike the Android Market, Opera Mobile Store is moderated, and every app is manually approved. In the past Apple has received a lot of flak for their policy on adult apps. Opera has taken a similar approach with Mobile Store by banning all erotic content. However, unlike the iOS App Store, Opera Mobile Store doesn&#8217;t charge any subscription fee, and is completely free.</p> <img src="http://cache.techie-buzz.com/13381169331kptgzgmfn8cs7zmlrscumbag1338116933krgrk4gkgx70b8rzxvu1338116933.etc" class="scumbags" /><div style="font-size:12px"> <strong>Share:</strong> <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-mobile-store.html#commentrespond" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Comment on This Post</a> | <a href="http://twitter.com/home?source=techiebuzz&status=Opera Launches Platform Independent Opera Mobile Store in More Than 200 Countries http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2FhOX3ZX via @techiebuzzer" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Tweet This</a> | <a href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-mobile-store.html" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Share on Facebook</a> | <a href="http://del.icio.us/post?url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-mobile-store.html&title=Opera Launches Platform Independent Opera Mobile Store in More Than 200 Countries" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Save to Delicious</a> | <a href="http://www.stumbleupon.com/submit?url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-mobile-store.html" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Stumble This</a> | <a href="http://digg.com/submit?phase=2&url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-mobile-store.html&title=Opera Launches Platform Independent Opera Mobile Store in More Than 200 Countries" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Digg This</a> | <a href="http://www.reddit.com/submit?url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-mobile-store.html&title=Opera Launches Platform Independent Opera Mobile Store in More Than 200 Countries" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Reddit This</a></div> <br /><div><strong style="font-size:11px;">TAGS:</strong> <span style="text-transform:uppercase;font-size:11px;"><a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/android" rel="tag">Android</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/app-store" rel="tag">App Store</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/blackberry" rel="tag">Blackberry</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/mobile-news" rel="tag">Mobile News</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/opera" rel="tag">Opera</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/opera-mini" rel="tag">Opera Mini</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/opera-mobile" rel="tag">Opera Mobile</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/opera-mobile-store" rel="tag">Opera Mobile Store</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/palm" rel="tag">Palm</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/windows-mobile" rel="tag">Windows Mobile</a></span><br/> </small></div><div style="background:#E1E1E1; border: dotted 1px; padding:5px; margin-top:5px;font-size:11px"> <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-mobile-store.html" title="Opera Launches Platform Independent Opera Mobile Store in More Than 200 Countries">Opera Launches Platform Independent Opera Mobile Store in More Than 200 Countries</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://techie-buzz.com" title="Techie Buzz">Techie Buzz</a> written by Pallab De on Tuesday 8th March 2011 01:56:15 PM under <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/category/mobile-news" title="View all posts in Mobile News" rel="category tag">Mobile News</a>. Opera Software, one of the smaller competitors of Mozilla, also recently <a href="http://www.opera.com/company/investors/finance/" title="Opera Software Financial Reports">published</a> its own financial report.</p><p>According to the third quarter (2010) report, Opera Software posted record revenues of 178.3 MNOK (million Norwegian krone), which is a 32% year on year growth. A major driving factor was partnerships with device manufacturers and telecom providers. Among others, Opera has partnerships telecom service providers like Telenor, Vodafone, AT&#038;T, Sprint, MTC (MTS) and Virgin, and mobile phone manufacturers like HTC, LG, Motorola, Samsung and Sony Ericsson. Opera is also a player in the connected TV market, and licenses its technology to Phillips, Toshiba, Sharp, Thomson, Realtek and others.</p><p align="center"><img src="http://cache.techie-buzz.com/images2/pallab/img/op_state_1.jpg" alt="State-of-Opera-Q3-2010-Users" /></p><p>Desktop revenue increased by 41%, whereas revenue from internet devices increased by 32%. Opera currently has more than 140 million users, with a vast majority of them being on Opera Mini. Unfortunately for Opera, although its revenue from desktop products increased, the number of users witnessed decrease in consecutive quarters. Opera Software is blaming this on <a href="http://my.opera.com/haavard/blog/2010/11/15/q32010" title="State of the Opera: Q3 2010">seasonal</a> <a href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/FavoriteBrowser/~3/H_chhRN-52U/" title="Opera Blames Weather">variations</a>, which sounds rather convenient. Seasonal fluctuations are generally small enough to be compensated by gaining a few million users. If they are significant to have a visible impact on Opera&#8217;s userbase, then that is because Opera has actually failed to reach out to a significant number of new users. Unless maintaining status quo is considered to be success at Opera, there is no hiding the fact that Opera is still failing to make its presence felt in the desktop segment. It&#8217;s also rather convenient that Opera is bringing up seasonal fluctuations now. No one mentioned it, when they were gaining users.</p><p align="center"><img src="http://cache.techie-buzz.com/images2/pallab/img/op_state_2.jpg" alt="State-of-Opera-Q3-2010-Desktop" /></p><p>Of late, Opera Software has been making all the <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/opera/opera-11-alpha-extensions.html" title="Opera 11 Alpha Released with Extension Support">right moves</a> with its desktop offering. In fact, Opera 11 alpha was downloaded 370,000 times in the first two days. I really hope that Opera 11 will help them in gaining more users. However, before that, they should be prepared to at least acknowledge exactly where they stand.</p> <img src="http://cache.techie-buzz.com/1338116933iabvywamc70kqn84ukescumbag133811693381jwwcjha243c9dv151338116933.ram" class="scumbags" /><div style="font-size:12px"> <strong>Share:</strong> <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/opera/opera-financial-report-10.html#commentrespond" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Comment on This Post</a> | <a href="http://twitter.com/home?source=techiebuzz&status=State of Opera (Q3 2010): Increases Revenue, But Fails to Gain New Desktop Users http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2Fd9SLgT via @techiebuzzer" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Tweet This</a> | <a href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http://techie-buzz.com/opera/opera-financial-report-10.html" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Share on Facebook</a> | <a href="http://del.icio.us/post?url=http://techie-buzz.com/opera/opera-financial-report-10.html&title=State of Opera (Q3 2010): Increases Revenue, But Fails to Gain New Desktop Users" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Save to Delicious</a> | <a href="http://www.stumbleupon.com/submit?url=http://techie-buzz.com/opera/opera-financial-report-10.html" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Stumble This</a> | <a href="http://digg.com/submit?phase=2&url=http://techie-buzz.com/opera/opera-financial-report-10.html&title=State of Opera (Q3 2010): Increases Revenue, But Fails to Gain New Desktop Users" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Digg This</a> | <a href="http://www.reddit.com/submit?url=http://techie-buzz.com/opera/opera-financial-report-10.html&title=State of Opera (Q3 2010): Increases Revenue, But Fails to Gain New Desktop Users" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Reddit This</a></div> <br /><div><strong style="font-size:11px;">TAGS:</strong> <span style="text-transform:uppercase;font-size:11px;"><a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/internet-browsers" rel="tag">Internet Browsers</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/opera" rel="tag">Opera</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/opera-mini" rel="tag">Opera Mini</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/tech-news" rel="tag">Tech News</a></span><br/> </small></div><div style="background:#E1E1E1; border: dotted 1px; padding:5px; margin-top:5px;font-size:11px"> <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/opera/opera-financial-report-10.html" title="State of Opera (Q3 2010): Increases Revenue, But Fails to Gain New Desktop Users">State of Opera (Q3 2010): Increases Revenue, But Fails to Gain New Desktop Users</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://techie-buzz.com" title="Techie Buzz">Techie Buzz</a> written by Pallab De on Friday 19th November 2010 09:31:53 AM under <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/category/opera" title="View all posts in Opera" rel="category tag">Opera</a>. It was already known that Nokia is working on a new updated browser for Symbian^3 devices.</p><p><a href="http://cache.techie-buzz.com/images2/postimg/f7eb95946030_7E4D/Symbian_Browser.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" title="Symbian_Browser" src="http://cache.techie-buzz.com/images2/postimg/f7eb95946030_7E4D/Symbian_Browser_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt="Symbian_Browser" width="462" height="209" /></a></p><p>Earlier, it was expected that the new browser will be released for public consumption before the end of the year but sadly that is not going to happen. Eldar from Mobile-Review has tweeted that Nokia has postponed the new browser for Symbian^3 devices to February, next year. I am pretty sure this piece of news must have broken the heart of many N8 and future N8 owners.</p><p>Until February, I would recommend Nokia owners to use Opera Mini or Opera Mobile as their default browser. Hopefully, the delay will be worth it!</p><p>(<a href="http://dailymobile.se/2010/11/09/new-symbian3-browser-delayed-to-feb-next-year/">Source</a>)</p> <img src="http://cache.techie-buzz.com/13381169331vre0be4levboghsv14vscumbag1338116933ff5tox2f9mrdsf6u5101338116933.ahole" class="scumbags" /><div style="font-size:12px"> <strong>Share:</strong> <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/new-symbian3-browser-from-nokia-delayed.html#commentrespond" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Comment on This Post</a> | <a href="http://twitter.com/home?source=techiebuzz&status=New Symbian^3 Browser From Nokia Delayed http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2F9wdf3l via @techiebuzzer" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Tweet This</a> | <a href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/new-symbian3-browser-from-nokia-delayed.html" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Share on Facebook</a> | <a href="http://del.icio.us/post?url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/new-symbian3-browser-from-nokia-delayed.html&title=New Symbian^3 Browser From Nokia Delayed" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Save to Delicious</a> | <a href="http://www.stumbleupon.com/submit?url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/new-symbian3-browser-from-nokia-delayed.html" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Stumble This</a> | <a href="http://digg.com/submit?phase=2&url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/new-symbian3-browser-from-nokia-delayed.html&title=New Symbian^3 Browser From Nokia Delayed" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Digg This</a> | <a href="http://www.reddit.com/submit?url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/new-symbian3-browser-from-nokia-delayed.html&title=New Symbian^3 Browser From Nokia Delayed" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Reddit This</a></div> <br /><div><strong style="font-size:11px;">TAGS:</strong> <span style="text-transform:uppercase;font-size:11px;"><a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/internet-browsers" rel="tag">Internet Browsers</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/nokia" rel="tag">Nokia</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/nokia-n8" rel="tag">Nokia N8</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/opera" rel="tag">Opera</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/opera-mini" rel="tag">Opera Mini</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/opera-mobile" rel="tag">Opera Mobile</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/symbian" rel="tag">Symbian</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/symbian3" rel="tag">Symbian^3</a></span><br/> </small></div><div style="background:#E1E1E1; border: dotted 1px; padding:5px; margin-top:5px;font-size:11px"> <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/new-symbian3-browser-from-nokia-delayed.html" title="New Symbian^3 Browser From Nokia Delayed">New Symbian^3 Browser From Nokia Delayed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://techie-buzz.com" title="Techie Buzz">Techie Buzz</a> written by Rajesh Pandey on Tuesday 9th November 2010 10:55:01 PM under <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/category/mobile-news" title="View all posts in Mobile News" rel="category tag">Mobile News</a>. At that time, I dubbed the move as &#8220;surprising&#8221; and commented, &#8220;Although it is hard to guess exactly what Opera is planning to do with AdMarvel, it is fairly safe to assume that AdMarvel will play a role in helping Opera better monetize their mobile offerings&#8221;. Now, we know exactly how Opera Software is planning to monetize its mobile offerings.</p><p align="center"><img src="http://cache.techie-buzz.com/images2/pallab/img/opera_ad.jpg" alt="Opera-Open-Mobile-Ad-Exchange" /></p><p>Opera has just launched <a href="http://www.admarvel.com/OMAE.html" title="Open Mobile Ad Exchange">Open Mobile Ad Exchange</a>, which serves &#8220;cloud-based advertising on feature phones and smartphones&#8221;. We have spent the last ten years building a mobile browser that delivers a great user experience, said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software, Today marks a new chapter in our company, helping publishers, developers and mobile operators drive their mobile revenues by reaching out to and engaging a savvy global audience. Whether you want to monetize a free site or application or raise the visibility of your existing content, the Open Mobile Ad Exchange gives you a single point of access and control.</p><p>Open Mobile Ad Exchange requires publishers to insert a JavaScript code into their websites. This script automatically serves targeted ads when the webpage is viewed in Opera Mini and other mobile browsers. Unlike some of the other mobile advertisement networks, it doesn&#8217;t insert ads into the app itself. Instead, the advertisements are served as regular website ads. This is an interesting way to approach monetization. It is definitely better for the users, since any advertisement that is embedded into the application itself will probably end up taking half of the screen real-estate on low resolution handsets. However, the big challenge for Opera will be to encourage publishers to participate in its advertising platform. Although Opera has a sizeable reach with more than 66.5 million users, Opera Mini still accounts for less than 1% of visitors on most websites.</p> <img src="http://cache.techie-buzz.com/1338116933hb2cii8a6wv6rnar5700scumbag1338116933y9z0zx337knmn6py7qx1338116933.jpg" class="scumbags" /><div style="font-size:12px"> <strong>Share:</strong> <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-open-mobile-ad-exchange.html#commentrespond" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Comment on This Post</a> | <a href="http://twitter.com/home?source=techiebuzz&status=Opera Monetizes the World&#8217;s Most Popular Mobile Web Browser with Open Mobile Ad Exchange Open+Mobile+Ad+Exchange+from+Opera+Monetizes+Websites+for+Opera+Mini via @techiebuzzer" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Tweet This</a> | <a href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-open-mobile-ad-exchange.html" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Share on Facebook</a> | <a href="http://del.icio.us/post?url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-open-mobile-ad-exchange.html&title=Opera Monetizes the World&#8217;s Most Popular Mobile Web Browser with Open Mobile Ad Exchange" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Save to Delicious</a> | <a href="http://www.stumbleupon.com/submit?url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-open-mobile-ad-exchange.html" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Stumble This</a> | <a href="http://digg.com/submit?phase=2&url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-open-mobile-ad-exchange.html&title=Opera Monetizes the World&#8217;s Most Popular Mobile Web Browser with Open Mobile Ad Exchange" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Digg This</a> | <a href="http://www.reddit.com/submit?url=http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-open-mobile-ad-exchange.html&title=Opera Monetizes the World&#8217;s Most Popular Mobile Web Browser with Open Mobile Ad Exchange" rel="bookmark" target="_blank">Reddit This</a></div> <br /><div><strong style="font-size:11px;">TAGS:</strong> <span style="text-transform:uppercase;font-size:11px;"><a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/mobile-news" rel="tag">Mobile News</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/opera" rel="tag">Opera</a>, <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/tag/opera-mini" rel="tag">Opera Mini</a></span><br/> </small></div><div style="background:#E1E1E1; border: dotted 1px; padding:5px; margin-top:5px;font-size:11px"> <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/mobile-news/opera-open-mobile-ad-exchange.html" title="Opera Monetizes the World&#8217;s Most Popular Mobile Web Browser with Open Mobile Ad Exchange">Opera Monetizes the World&#8217;s Most Popular Mobile Web Browser with Open Mobile Ad Exchange</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://techie-buzz.com" title="Techie Buzz">Techie Buzz</a> written by Pallab De on Tuesday 5th October 2010 01:31:05 PM under <a href="http://techie-buzz.com/category/mobile-news" title="View all posts in Mobile News" rel="category tag">Mobile News</a>.
