HTC will be hosting an event in London on 15th September, where they will be announcing their upcoming phones. Interestingly, this date coincides with the Nokia World date of 14-15 September in London.
Talking about HTC, the phones which are expected to be officially announced on the event are HTC Desire HD (Ace) and HTC Desire Z (Vision). The HTC desire HD is rumored to have a 4.3 inch WVGA AMOLED screen (maybe S-LCD). The internal memory is expected to be 4GB and the external microSD will be expandable up to 32GB. Desire HD will be having a 8MP camera with dual LED flash and 720P video recording. It will come with Android 2.2. out-of-the-box and will have Qualcomm 1GHz processor.
The HTC Vision will have a smaller 3.7 inch WVGA TFT screen and physical QWERTY keyboard. The internal memory is rumored to be 1.2GB and the external will be expandable up to 32GB. The camera resolution is still unknown. It will come with Android 2.1 and 1GHz processor.
These are just two phones from HTC which are running hot in rumor mill. We can hope to see more than these two devices from HTC in the event. So stay tuned for HTC’s “Dream”.
Its raining firmware updates for Nokia phones. Just a couple of days ago, Nokia released a firmware update for the Nokia 5800. Today, Nokia has rolled out a new firmware update for the Nokia 5530. The new firmware version is numbered v31.0.005. This firmware update is a pretty minor one and mainly aims at fixing the bugs and improving the performance of the phone.
The change-log of this firmware update is as follows :
* Browser improved
* Fixed issues with Chinese characters
* Menu improved
* Fixed Dictionary application can’t be activated by voice command
* problem solved: phone hang when listen radio
* Fixed some date & clock problems
* FOTA feature improved
Users can update the firmware of their phone either by using Nokia Software Updater (NSU) or via FOTA (Over-The-Air). The Nokia 5530 features UDP (Users Data Preservation) so users don’t need to make a backup of their data before updating the firmware of their phone.
Close on the heels of Google’s announcement that nearly 200,000 Android devices are now being shipped per day, the Symbian foundation today issued a release which states that over 300,000 Symbian devices are being shipped every day (with around 27 million devices in the last quarter), 50% more than the number of Android devices.
“These figures make for very positive news for the Symbian community. The smartphone market place has become more crowded than ever. So the fact we continue to outsell our competitors by such large margins, combined with all the feature commitments and developments published on our roadmaps, make us highly confident in our outlook and we will continue to embrace the challenges ahead.” said Lee M. Williams, Executive Director of Symbian.
Android may now be the leading OS in the US market, but it might be a long time before it overtakes Symbian in worldwide sales. Symbian smartphones are mostly priced in the budget segment while Android smartphones are priced relatively high.
Symbian has now mostly been relegated to the sidelines while Android and iOS take the smartphone war to the next level. Even Nokia will move to the MeeGo platform for its high end devices now; the Nokia N8 will probably be the last major Symbian release in the high end segment.
Nokia recently released a new firmware update for its first S60v5 touchscreen phone, the Nokia 5800. Apparently, the Nokia C7 will be the second phone from Nokia running the Symbian^3 OS. The device will feature a capacitive touchscreen, which is slightly bigger than 3.3-inches. The resolution of the screen will be a disappointingly low 360×640 (nHD).
The phone will also accept multi-touch gestures. The C7-00 will also feature a 3.5mm audio jack, a microUSB port, and a microSD card slot. The phone will also be able to record videos in 720p HD resolution. The C7-00 will be launched after the Nokia N8. The device will sit right below the N8, in the Finnish company’s portfolio.
We expect Nokia to announce the C7-00 officially within a few weeks from now. Hopefully, the phone will be released by Q4 of this year.
Many Nokia fans must be eagerly waiting their next generation flagship N series device the N8. The Nokia N8 will be the first phone from the Finnish giant to run on the Symbian^3 OS.
