Oh well, if you thought your high end Nokia phones are not really rough & tough and that you need to buy Nokia’s Official rough & tough mobile Nokia 3720, then take a look at this picture of Nokia N95 N91. The N91 N95 dropped from 3rd floor of my building and is still working. The keybad buttons are in grave but I can still use it.

Synble is a free application for Nokia Symbian/S60 phones that will allow you to sync and backup your contacts, SMS messages and your call history to a online location.

Using Synble is pretty simple, just install the software on your phone, create a user account with Synble and start synching your data online.

Once you have synched the data, you can easily view it online at Synble.com or download it to another phone using the Synble application. Another interesting feature about Synble is that you can get forward your incoming SMS messages from your phone to your Google Talk account.

This comes in pretty handy, when you do not want to open up the phone and read the message or if the phone is at a location that is not near you. In addition to that you can also send free text messages to your friends using Synble.

However before you can start using this application let us tell you that it does not support using a Wifi connection on your phone and forces you to use the data plan from your phone company, this may be ok with users with unlimited data plans, however could prove a dampener to other users.

We don’t really see any reason why they should be doing that, but hope that the developers allow users to select a Wifi connection instead of using the phone company data plan.

Ignorance is bliss, however I keep on trying new and beta softwares so that I can review it for my readers, however one such test literally converted my Nokia N95 into a brick. The software installation and went fine and the software even ran to completion, however there is when the problem started.

The software in question just hung at the completion screen, hanging the entire phone in the process, I had to hard reset the phone (by removing the battery) to get it to work again.

However my problems did not end there and the Nokia N95 phone kept on rebooting as soon as it showed me the welcome screen, the only way to shut it down, was to hard reset it again. This reboot however went on continuously even though I hard reset it several times and tried several others ways like taking off the SIM card, adding a new SIM card and so on.

The only way I believed I could get the phone to start working was to do a factory reset, however since I could not login into the phone, I could not use the conventional method to reset the phone.

Luckily for me, I found a way to factory reset the phone while rebooting it and that saved the day for me, just decided to write a post about it so that as finding the information was literally very hard for me itself.

Steps to Factory Reset Nokia N95 or Other Smartphones While Rebooting

Step 1: Before you reboot the phone, press the dial key (green key), the number 3 button and * button all at once. It is important to press all the 3 keys simultaneously before you reboot the phone.

Step 2: Reboot your phone.

Step 3: If you do not see the option to enter your country or other factory reset screens, repeat steps 1 and 2.

Please remember that you will lose the information stored on your phone memory, when you factory reset your phone. If you are not ready to lose this information, please take the phone to a authorized Nokia dealer for rectification, on the hindsight always keep a backup of your phone, using the Nokia PC suite, you can also backup and sync you mobile contacts, calendar entries, etc to avoid inconvenience, alternatively you can also use Microsoft Phone Data Manager to backup your phone.

I am more into internet radios these days, and love playing music on Last.fm and Pandora radio channels, but having the N95 as my regular companion I was looking for a Nokia smartphone application that would help me play radio channels from the above services on my cellphone.

Pandora does have support to play music on cellphones, but currently it does not support any Nokia phones. To my joy, I came across a really handy Nokia application called Mobbler which allows users to play Last.fm radio stations on Nokia S60 3rd edition based phones.

Mobbler, Mobile Scrobbler, is a last.fm radio player and scrobbler for Nokia S60 3rd edition smartphones. It allows you to listen to your last.fm radio stations and to scrobble tracks played using the Nokia S60 Music Player. Music player scrobbling can be done both whilst you listen, or queued offline to be submitted later.

Once you download and install Mobbler, you will have to provide your last.fm username and password, before you can create new radio stations and start listening to music. Just like the online player you can easily favorite a song, ban it from playing again, search for the song on Amazon or skip and play the next track.

The quality of the music streaming is pretty good even both on a WiFi network and even when I used the application on a 3G connection. Overall a must have for music lovers who love last.fm and would like to listen to music on the go.

Setting up and using fring is pretty simple with a added option to launch the application on startup.

Many Nokia S60 applications are in beta stages and not signed. Installing a unsigned application on a S60 device is next to impossible. SymbianSigned.com did make the process of self signing application easier, but recently they have changed their requirements for signing applications, asking users to provide them with a publisher ID which is quite difficult to get your hands on.

There is a software though that will make signing unsigned applications a piece of cake.

GenialSiS is a desktop tool that will allow you to easily self-sign unsigned applications that are supported by SymbianSigned.com using Open Sign. All you require is the phone IMIE number and the unsigned application, here is a step by step tutorial for signing unsigned Symbian S60 app with GenialSiS.

GenialSiS runs out of the box, so you do not need to install it, download the file at the end of the post and unzip it to a folder.

Step 1: Find your Phone IMEI number To do that type in *#06# in your phone and press Dial key, write down the number you see someplace, we will be using it in next steps.

Step 2: Fill in Information into GenialSiS – Open GenialSiS and go to the open signed tab, add a email address (this will be where confirmation emails are sent) and your IMEI number, once you have done that, click on the Open button and browse and include the unsigned application.

The application allows to sign more than one application at a time, but we suggest you sign only one application at a time.

Step 3: Sign the Application After you have selected the unsigned application, and entered the email and IMEI, click on the Sign button. After you have clicked the button, GenialSiS will load the Open Signed page within the application and enter the details for you, you will have to confirm the captcha image before the application is submitted for signing to Symbian Signed.

Step 4: Confirmation of Submissions Once you have entered the captcha code, wait for a few seconds, if everything goes ok, you should see a confirmation message from Symbian Signed, telling you about a email that was sent to you to confirm the signing process.

Note: You may see errors instead of a confirmation, if the application you tried to sign has errors or is not supported by Symbian Signed.

Step 5: Click on the Confirmation link in the Email Login to the email you had provided while signing and check for a email sent by Symbian Signed, open up the email and click on the confirmation link, you should see a message that the application will be processed shortly.

Step 6: Wait for the second email from Symbian Signed Once the application has been signed, Symbian signed will send you another email, open that email and click on the link provided to download the signed application.

Step 7: Install and Enjoy Now that you have a signed application the S60 device will not complain about certificate errors and allow you to install the application.

We were able to self-sign and install the following application on our Nokia N95 smartphone using this trick: LandscapePro, RockNScroll, ShakeMe, FlipSilent, ShakeLock, Autolock, Calsync, rotateMe and FreeCallSprite.
