Nokia has released a new firmware update for its low-end touch phone the Nokia 5230. The new firmware update version is numbered V40.0.3 and is apparently the last firmware update for the handset. The firmware update improves the general performance and stability of the handset along with some bug fixes.
No official change-log of the update is available at the moment, but early reports suggest that the battery life of the phone has improved especially when running Ovi Maps.
Other bugs relating to creation of a new profile and network connection issues were also solved. The Nokia 5230 features UDP (User Data Preservation), so users can update the firmware of their phone without making a backup of their device. Users can update the firmware on the device either by using Nokia Software Updater (NSU) or via OTA (Over The Air).
Nokia is slowly rolling out the firmware in different regions of the world so the update may take time before showing up in your region.
Nokia phones were not popular among the modding community until a few months ago. However, from the last few months Nokia modding has reached an all new high with Custom ROMs being released for various devices and the C6 firmware being ported to 5800. Now, the folks who have created the popular HX Custom ROMs for the Samsung Omnia i8910 have managed to overclock the Nokia 5230 to 800MHz. That’s nearly a 100% overclock!
Here is a video of the device in action with its processor running at 800MHz-:
All the Nokia Symbian 60v5 phones are powered by an out dated ARM11 434MHz processor. A nearly 100% overclock, if stable, will surely give a HUGE performance boost to all the slow touch based phones from Nokia.
As of now, this mod is still in testing phase but hopefully it will be released for public use soon.
Another day, another firmware update for two Nokia phones. This time its the Nokia 5230 and the Nokia X6. The Nokia 5230 is a cheap touchscreen, which has a 3.2 inch resistive touchscreen display. Nokia also released a new firmware update for the Nokia X6. The Nokia X6 is an out and out music phone from the Finnish handset maker. It is the only phone from Nokia which uses the Capacitive touch display. The firmware update for the Nokia X6 is also numbered v20.0.05. The unofficial change log for the firmware is-:
- Kinetic scrolling in the menu(s)
- Faster system performance and smoother UI
- Web browser version has also been updated to 7.2.

Both the phones feature UDP so users can update their device right from their phone, by using FOTA.
