Nintendo 3DS Brings 3D Games and Movies to Your Palm [E3]

Today, at E3 2010, Nintendo’s CEO, Satoru Iwata gave the world its first glimpse of the Nintendo 3DS. In case you haven’ heard yet, the Nintendo 3DS is a hand-held gaming console, which will allow you to play 3D games without being forced to wear glasses that make you look like a buffoon.

The 3DS has two screens – the one at the top is a 3.5 inch widescreen, while the one at the bottom is a standard one. It also has a slide pad for analog control, a gyro sensor and a motion sensor. Users will be able to control the level of depth offered by the 3DS through an easy to use slider.

Nintendo has tied up with 21 major gaming studios to ensure a hefty supply of games for the 3DS. Some of the big names roped-in include Capcom, EA, Activison, Sega, Ubisoft and Kojima who will be bringing popular franchises like Resident Evil , FIFA Soccer, Madden NFL, The Sims 3, DJ Hero, Sonic, Assassin’s Creed, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell and Metal Gear to the new hand-held.

3DS is not just a gaming console. Nintendo claims that it is also capable of playing 3D movies and even snapping 3D pictures. Disney, Warner Brothers, and Dreamworks are among the initial partners who will be producing content for the 3DS.

With the 3DS, Nintendo has once again managed to reinvent the wheel and redefine our expectations. If 3D is your thing, then prepared to be blown away by the 3DS, which is expected to be released in the fiscal year ending March 2011. Pricing remains unknown.

Nintendo 3DS Will Have The Ability To Switch Between 2D And 3D Modes

The upcoming handheld console from Nintendo the Nintendo 3DS will have support for both the 2D and 3D gaming modes. Nintendo had announced the Nintendo 3DS in March, and a public demo of the device will be given at the upcoming E3 event in Los Angeles.

TheNintendo device will hit the retail market sometime in early 2011. The Nintendo 3DS, when released, will be the first handheld console in the market to feature 3D gaming without the use of special 3D glasses. Many analysts criticized the device, saying that 3D gaming may have ill effects on the gamers health. Nintendo’s President Satoru Iwata in a recent interview with the Forbes cleared the doubt about 3D gaming on the Nintendo 3DS.

He said that it will be easy to turn off the 3-D function on the new machine, allowing people to play games, with or without 3-D.”

According to Eurogamer, the ability to switch between 2D and 3D modes give hints that the Nintendo 3DS utilises the Sharp’s parallax barrier technology. Currently, the Sharp’s parallax technology is the only technology in the market which allows to quickly switch between 2D and 3D view modes.

Nintendo Wii Sales Down By 21%

It has been six years since the Nintendo Wii was launched. Nintendo Wii managed to set the sales chart on fire, even though many people criticized it. Nintendo has been making record profits every year since then. But nowNintendo-Wii it looks like the Nintendo Wii is finally running out of steam.

Yesterday, Nintendo released its financial statement starting from April 2009 to March 2010. Surprisingly, the company’s net profit dropped by 12% to $2.44 billion. This is the first time in six years that the company’s net profit has dipped. The sales of both the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo DS – were also lower compared to the previous financial year (2008-09). The Nintendo DS sales were down to 27 million from 31 million, which is a 12% drop year-to-year wise.

Nintendo managed to sell 20.53 million Wii consoles in the last financial year, which is a 21% drop compared to the 2008-09 Wii sales figure. The sale of Wii games were also down to 191 million copies, which is a 6% drop year-to-year wise.

Ironically, even with the fall in sales, this was the third best year sales wise for Nintendo.

Nintendo 3DS Announced

NintendoNintendo plans to launch a new model of its DS hand-held game console that allows users to play 3D games without using special glasses. It is set for release before March 2011 in Japan. This new hand-held seems to be much more innovative than that bigger-screened Nintendo DSi XL.

Dont worry my friends,3DS will definitely be backward compatible with currrent DS and DSi games.

Earlier this year, it was discussed that there is a possibility of a motion sensor being part of a new Nintendo DS. However, it is still not clear whether 3DS will use a sensor with the ability to “read the movements of people playing.”This remains a rumour until the next meeting, which is scheduled on June 15, 2010 at Los Angeles. Another rumour suggested that NVIDIA’s Tegra processor would power a new DS hand-held.

It seems that Nintendo, a strong competitor of Sony and Microsoft, is trying its best to do a world of good in the market.
