Verizon Motorola Droid Pro Gets The Android 2.3 Gingerbread Update

Last year, Motorola launched its Droid Pro smartphone. This handset comes with a touchscreen display as well as a full QWERTY keyboard. This device is exclusively available for the customers of Verizon in the US. Motorola Droid Pro originally runs on the old Android 2.2 (Froyo) Operating System. After waiting for nearly a year, Verizon finally rolled out the much-awaited Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the owners of Motorola Droid Pro smartphone. New App to manage all of your downloads from web browsing, email attachments and other apps.

App and Power Management Details:
Under Manage Applications, a new Runningtab displays a list of active applications and the storage and memory being used by each.

Multi-Touch Key-Chording:
New ability to enter numbers and symbols with keyboard shortcut combos, instead of having to change to the numeric keyboard mode.

Improved Word Selection and Copy Functionality:
New capability to select a word via press-hold. A second press of the selected word copies the selected characters.

New User Interface and Color Scheme:
New widgets, icons and screens with refreshed colors.

Dock Icons:
Static Phone, App Launcher and Contacts icons are replaced within a customizable dock. Three swappable icons and the App Launcher icon are fixed to the dock at the bottom of all home screen panels for easy and instant access.

App Groups:
New App Menu allows creation of custom app groups, in addition to 3 default groups: All Apps, Recent and Downloaded.

Updated Calendar Options:

  • Display Calendar and event times in your home time zone when traveling.
  • Dismiss individual reminders, such as dismissing one meeting reminder without ┬ádismissing other meeting reminders.
  • Easy conference dialing simply dial and automatically enter a conference ┬ácode directly from your Calendar.
  • Update Calendar appointments using Exchange ActiveSync without deleting them.

Google Books now comes preloaded.

Geo-tagging features available for camera application.

Other improvements:

  • Improved contact syncing from multiple email accounts.
  • Improved battery life while using Wi-Fi and/or Bluetooth.
  • Correct contact name is displayed when receiving SMS messages.
  • Forward SMS message conversations correctly.
  • Mobile Hotspot status is displayed accurately.
  • Clock widget updates time correctly.
  • GPS apps and programs no longer cause unnecessary device resets.
  • V CAST Media Manager now comes preloaded.

It is advised to backup all you data before updating the device. The latest update is numbered 4.6.8.XT610.Verizon.en.US and it can be downloaded via. OTA (Over-The-Air). Motorola Droid Pro Gets A Minor Software Update

At the beginning of this month, Motorola and Verizon rolled out software updates for the Droid X and the original Droid. Now, they are all set to roll a software update for another Droid branded handset the Droid Pro. The software update for the Droid Pro is a pretty minor one and mainly fixes some bugs and improves the stability and performance of the device.

The OTA update weighs in at 15.9MB and is numbered V2.26.60.

* User interface display now refreshes when user switches from GSM/UMTS communication to Global Mode.
* Device now prepends 011 to Country Code to send SMS messages.

* Visual Voice Mail now detects airplane mode while Wi-Fi is active.
* Prompt return to full screen brightness after wake-up

Droid Pro owners can pull’ the update from Verizon’s server by going to Settings->About Phone-> System Updates. Alternatively, they can wait for the OTA update to be pushed to their handset.

Motorola Droid Pro Pricing And Launch Date Announced

It was exactly a month ago that Motorola had announced the Droid Pro. However, back then the company did not mention when the phone will be launched and its pricing. Today, Verizon has made both the pricing and the launch date official. The Pro will hit the Verizon store shelves on November 18th whereas online orders start from November 9. Droid_Pro

The Droid Pro has a 3.1-inch screen with HVGA resolution. The phone is powered by a 1GHz OMAP processor and packs in 512MB of RAM. The Droid Pro sports both EVDO Rev.A and WCDMA antennas for global roaming capability. Users can find out the whole specification of the Droid Pro here.

The phone will cost $179 after a $100 mail-in rebate on a new 2-year contract from the big red.

The full unlocked version of the handset will retail for around $749.

Motorola Droid Pro Announced

Verizon along with Motorola have announced their next droid the Droid Pro. The Droid Pro has a candy bar form factor with a QWERTY keyboard a first in the Android ecosystem. The handset features a 3.1-inch capacitive display with a resolution of 320×480 and is powered by a 1GHz OMAP processor. 512MB of RAM and 2 GB of Internal memory along with a microSD card slot take care of all the storage needs.Droid_Pro

The back of the phone sports a 5MP camera with auto-focus and dual-LED flash for assisting low night photography. The usual Wi-Fi N, GPS, DLNA, and 3G Mobile Hotspot. The handset will be global-ready’ as its houses a GSM as well as a CDMA antenna. The Droid Pro will run on Android 2.2 with a reduced version of Moto Blur UI.

The handset will also support full Flash 10.1. This handset has been targeted mainly towards business users with features like Corporate directory look-up, support for Exchange and Gmail for business and many built-in security features.

The early hands-on review of the device suggests that its fast and the keyboard is verygood. The Droid Pro is expected to hit the Verizon retail stores by the first week of November.
