Today, Huawei Technologies announced that it will launch four new handsets in the Indian market, two of them being Android smartphones.
The Huawei U8300 and U8500 will run the Android OS and have pretty decent hardware specifications. Huawei is clearly aiming for the budget Android segment which has virtually zero competition, by pricing the phones in the Rs. 7000 to Rs. 10000 range.
Detailed specifications are not available yet, but we do know that both phones will use Qualcomm chipsets and will offer GPRS, EDGE, 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. They are also integrated with sites like Twitter and Facebook.
The Huawei U8300 will be a QWERTY Android smartphone with a TFT touchscreen display and a 3.15 MP camera with LED flash. It will be available in three colors: green, yellow and purple.
The Huawei U8500, on the other hand, will have a 3.2 inch touchscreen display with a trackpad.
Huawei had first unveiled these phones at the Mobile World Congress, Barcelona in February. They will be available on August 1, 2010.
The Dell Streak, Dell’s new smartphone-tablet hybrid is slated for an October launch in India, according to an NDTV report. NDTV reported today that Michael Tatelman, Dell’s Vice President for Global Consumer Channel Sales & Marketing, said that Indian consumers can expect the Dell Streak to launch around October, but he didn’t mention the exact launch date or the price of the Streak.
The Dell Streak is a nice little tablet, or an over sized smartphone, depending on how you intend to use it. It runs Android 2.1 and will soon get the Android 2.2 upgrade. It has been getting pretty good reviews so far and is expected to be a hit. It is the first serious competitor to both the iPhone 4 and the iPad. It has been available in the UK for about a month and has been available for pre-order in the US since a day or two.
Other specs of the Streak include a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 512 MB RAM, 5 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display, 16 GB storage, 5 MP camera and GPS. It also has the usual connectivity options like GPRS, EDGE, 3G HSDPA, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g and Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP.
It is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 25000 – 30000 in India at the time of launch.
