Tiny Wings Displaces Angry Birds as Top Paid App in App Store

I am not sure since when, but every time I have visited the Top 25 app section in the iTunes App Store, I have always seen as the top app in the paid section, however, it looks like it took another Tiny Bird to displace those Angry Birds.

Tiny Wings - iPhone Game

Tiny Wings is the top paid app in the app store as of today. To be frank, this is the first time I have heard about the app, but climbing to number 1 position is no small feat. The game was released on February 18, 2011 and it took the app 6 days to topple Angry Birds off the top.

Tiny Wings Top iPhone App

Tiny Wings is developed by an individual developer named Andreas Illinger and seems to have leapt out of nowhere to reach the top position. The game play is navigating a tiny bird over hills by jumping, sliding, flapping wings and flying.

Though I haven’t played the game yet, the gameplay sounds fun and I’ll definitely try it out in the near future. I have sent out a note to the developer of the game for his thoughts on this and will update this post once he gets back to me. In the meantime, you can enjoy the top selling game/app; Tiny Wings by visiting the iTunes store.

iPhone Games Sale: Gameloft Drops iPhone/iPad Game Prices to 99 Cents

Every once in a while some of the big gaming studios decide to drop the prices of their games to something which is really affordable. Earlier this year EA had dropped prices of their games to $.99 and it looks like Gameloft dropped their prices to 99 cents too today in a surprise sale.

Gameloft Games

Gameloft has dropped prices of popular games like Shrek Kart, Modern Combat: Sandstorm, Asphalt 5, Let’s Golf, Prince of Persia, UNO, Assassin’s Creed and more to 99 cents flat. You will find games for the iPhone, and on sale. Some of these games are really good and well worth the 99 cents being charged. In total, Gameloft has dropped the price of over 30 games for the iPhone and iPad today.

I certainly hate these kind of sales because I end up buying at-least 10 games. Now only if I could also find the time to play them all. Interested? Check out the entire list of games whose price Gameloft has dropped at this Appshopper page.

Developer of Angry Birds: “Really Big and New Project Underway”

Angry-Birds

Earlier in the week, we confirmed that Rovio Mobile is preparing to release Angry Birds Christmas edition for iPhone, iPad and Android. However, that’s not all that they have in store for us. Rovio had hinted that something else is in the pipe. We speculated that it might be the arrival of the “Mighty Eagle” on the Android. However, now it seems that it might be something entirely different.

Yes, Mighty Eagle is scheduled to make an appearance, as soon as Google gets its Market sorted out and enables in-app purchases. However, that is definitely not the big new thing Rovio is preparing for. It isn’t the console ports of Angry Birds either. TechCrunch Europe had speculated that Rovio might be working on something disruptive.

We can confirm that it is something that Rovio believes will be a big deal. Their exact words to us were, “There’s another REALLY big and new project underway”. Rovio is working on its own gaming network (think Xbox Live or Open Feint). However, that won’t be ready by 11th December, which is the Angry Birds day, and the date on which Rovio is expected to make the big announcement.

So exactly what is Rovio Mobile working on? They won’t tell us. However, it’s definitely not a new game, or mighty eagle for Android, or even Rovio’s gaming network. Let the guessing begin. What do you think Rovio is working on?

Angry Birds Christmas Edition for iPhone, iPad and Android Coming on Dec 11

Angry Birds has blitzkrieged the iTunes App Store, Android Market and several other app repositories, and it is showing no signs of slowing down. Rovio Mobile has stated that they don’t want to do a sequel, but they have been cleverly tapping into the cash cow that is Angry Birds with special holiday editions. After an immensely popular Halloween edition, Rovio is now preparing to release a special Christmas edition of Angry Birds.

Angry-Birds-Christmas-Edition

According to the Finnish site MTV3 (and PocketLint), Angry Birds Christmas edition will be launched on Dec 11. Although the website confirms simultaneous releases for both iPhone and iPad, it is silent on the availability of the special edition on Android.

Angry-Birds-Christmas-Edition-Android

Given that Android users had missed out on the Halloween edition of Angry Birds, I requested confirmation from Rovio through Twitter. In response to my query regarding the availability of Angry Birds Christmas Edition on Android, @roviomobile tweeted back “and not only that;-)”, which pretty much confirms that Angry Birds Christmas Edition will be available on Android. The tweet also hints that something more is in the pipe for Android users. Based on the information available at hand, I am guessing that we will be seeing the “Mighty Eagle” make an appearance on Android. What do you think? Are you also an Angry Birds addict? Will you be willing to pay for a Christmas edition of Angry Birds?
