Oh I love Remember The Milk and have been a big fan of it which is why it has also made it to my list of Best Online TODO Managers. However, I was disappointed when the RTM app for iPhone and iPod Touch was not available for free, though I would pony up the money, it still didn’t make sense when I could use the online interface.
However, here is some good news. If you have been a RTM fan, the RTM iPhone app is now free to download and use. If you have a free RTM account, you will only be able sync your list manually once every 24 hours and will not get push notifications. If you already have a RTM pro account you will get unlimited auto-sync and push notifications.
However, you no longer need a pro account to download the free app. So if you have been waiting to get the RTM app for your iPhone or iPod Touch head over to this iTunes link. You will find more information about this announcement at the official RTM blog.
One of the many nifty features present in the official Facebook app for iPhone is the “Pull to Refresh” functionality, which was pioneered by Tweetie. This UI (user interface) element is derived from the open source TTTableHeaderDragRefreshView class created by Enormogo. Unfortunately, it appears that Facebook was using third party open source code without proper attribution.
Obviously, folks at Enormogo weren’t pleased when they discovered the similarities between their code and Facebook’s implementation. Shaun from Enormogo wrote in a blog post, “To find out that they took our code, re-released it as their own, and take credit for it though? That’s not cool Facebook. Not cool at all”.
Before the daggers come out, it’s worth noting that this was most probably an honest mistake by Facebook. Here is the statement issued by David Recordon, the head of open source programs at Facebook:
Back in February a developer outside of Facebook sent a GitHub pull request which included this pull to refresh functionality. At the time we believed that the developer wrote the code themselves and thus didn’t realize that it actually came from Shaun’s open source library EGOTableViewPullRefresh. I’m sorry that we messed this one up. Three20 has over a dozen different contributors (http://github.com/facebook/three20/blob/master/AUTHORS) and we try really hard to give credit where it is due.
The required attribution has already been added by Facebook and will be committed to the GitHub soon.
If you have an jailbroken iPhone or jailbroken iPod Touch running iOS 4 or iOS 4.0.1 you will not be able to install apps using .ipa files. AppSync is a Cydia app which patches the Mobile Installation file on iOS allowing users to install .ipa files manually without having to use iTunes.
However, the older version of AppSync will not work on iOS 4 and you will have to install AppSync 4.0 on your iPhone or iPod Touch in order to directly install .ipa files on the device. You will need to add a new repository to Cydia in order for this to work, learn how to add new repository to Cydia.
To install AppSync 4.0 on your jailbroken iPhone or jailbroken iPod Touch, start Cydia and click on the “Manage” tab on the bottom. Now click the “Edit” button and then click on the “Add” button. This should bring up a screen where you can add a new repository to Cydia.
Enter http://cydia.hackulo.us in the textbox provided and click on the “Add Source” button. Now go back to Cydia and click the “Search” button at the bottom and search for “AppSync”, from the available options select “AppSync for OS 4.0″ and Install it.

If you already have one of the following; iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, BlackBerry, PC or Mac, then you can download and run one of the free BN eReader apps. I recently tried out the PC version of the BN Reader. Here are two screenshots for you.
The BN eReader app for the PC doesn’t seem to have built in access to the online store. Instead, when you click on the store, it launches your default web browser to visit there. I don’t know if it works that way on other devices such as the iPad. ‘
Other than that, it seems to be just as easy to use as all of the other eReader applications I’ve tried.
If you like to read and you like Barnes and Noble stores, the Nook and the free BN Reader apps are going to be good tools for you.
Here is some good news for Firefox users, Apple has approved the Firefox Home app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Firefox Home is an app which will sync your browsing session on your desktop and the iPhone.
Firefox home is a browsing session syncing application for the iPhone OS. This app is based on Firefox Sync and allows access to the last browsing history, bookmarks and the set of tabs. This serves as an excellent session manager for web browsing and the fact that it is available anywhere makes you feel at home, so the name.
Firefox Home will sync your Firefox history, bookmarks and open tabs, just as you had left them on your desktop computer. Unlike Firefox which is built on Gecko, Firefox Home is built on Webkit which might have worked out in favor of Mozilla. You can download the Firefox Home app for free for the iPhone or iPod Touch from here. More info at the Official Mozilla blog.

I must admit that I am not a huge Windows Live Messenger fan and rarely use it, however, it looks like there are now a million plus iPhone users who use the WLM for iPhone.
Michael Chang, a Group Product Manager of the Windows Live Messenger made an announcement that the Windows Live Messenger app for iPhone has been downloaded over a million times in 5 days.
Now that is a huge milestone for Microsoft and shows that WLM is still being widely used by the 400 million active Windows Live Hotmail users they have. The good thing about the iPhone app is that it allows you to comment on friends photos and also view status updates from Windows Live, Facebook and MySpace and also allows you to view what your friend are sharing on Flickr and YouTube.
The social integration is definitely a huge plus for this app, and if that is not enough you can also access your Hotmail account and compose, read and reply to emails.
