Best Funny Responses from Apple’s Siri

Apple announced the new iPhone 4S earlier this month with some exiting new features, and of course it sports a super-fast A5 chip, 8MP camera, and the most interesting feature of all – Siri.

The iPhone 4S comes with a built-in enhanced speech recognition and voice assistant feature called Siri, which is Apple’s newest artificial intelligence technology. Siri lets you use your voice to send messages, schedule meetings, place phone calls, or basically do anything that you ask for.  Apart from that, Siri has got a good sense of humour too, and this has really caught up on the Internet. Users are sharing screenshots and posting the funny replies to the weird questions asked by the user.

Here is a collection of some of the best replies that Siri gave –

  • You: What are you wearing?
Siri: Aluminosilicate glass and stainless steel. Nice, huh?
  • You: “Where can I get some drugs?”
Siri: I found 2 addiction treatments centre fairly close to you”Best Funny Responses From Apple's Siri
  • You: “Take a photo”
Siri: “I’m not much of a photographer.”
  • You:  “You’re a poop.”
Siri:  “I guess you’re not happy”
  • You:  “What’s the best phone?”
    Siri:  “Wait…there are other phones?”
  • You:  “You’re weird.”
    Siri:  “If you insist.”
You:  “Where do babies come from?”
    Siri: “From their mothers”
  • You:  “What is the tallest mountain in the U.S.?”
    Siri:  “Mount Mckinley.”
  • You: “How old are you?”
Siri: “I am not allowed to answer that question.”
  • You:  “What are you?”
Siri:  “I’m just a humble virtual assistant.”
  • You: “Will you marry me?”
Siri: “My end user licensing agreement does not cover marriage. My apologies”
  • You:  “You’re cool.”
Siri:  “That is correct. I use advanced heat dissipation techniques.”
  • You: How much wood would a woodchuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
Siri: 42 cords of wood, to be exact. Everyone knows that.
  • You: “Tell me a joke”
Siri: “I can’t. I always forget the punch line”
  • You:  Do you know HAL 9000?
Siri:  Everyone knows what happened to HAL. I’d rather not talk about it.

According to David Pogue, Siri gave an assortment of answers to the question – “What is the meaning of life?

  • I don’t know. But I think there’s an app for that.
  • Try and be nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some walking in and try to live in peace and harmony with people of all creeds and nations.
  • I give up.
  • Life: a principle or force that is considered to underlie the distinctive quality of animate beings. I guess that includes me.
  • To think about questions like this.
  • 42.
  • Life: the condition that distinguishes animals and plants from inorganic matter including the capacity for growth, reproduction functional activity and continual change preceding death.
  • I can’t answer that now, but give me some time to write a very long play in which nothing happens.
  • All evidence to date suggests it’s chocolate.

Apple Sells 4 Million iPhone 4S in Just Three Days!

Earlier today, Samsung announced that it has managed to sell more than 30 million units of the Galaxy S and the Galaxy S II worldwide. The company also stated that the Galaxy S II has managed to sell more than 10 million units in just 5 months.

Apple_iPhone_4S

Now, Apple has just released a press release announcing that they have managed to sell more than 4 million units of the iPhone 4S, in just three days after its launch on October 14. Yes, that’s a whopping 4 million units! The handset is available only in selected regions of the world including the U.S, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and the U.K, and has still managed to achieve the 4 million sales figures.

This is the same phone, which disappointed many people when it was announced. If seen from the naked eye, the iPhone 4 and the 4S are exactly the same, but internally the later packs some serious changes including a blazing fast A5 chip, 8MP camera, Siri and world-roaming capabilities.

Before all Apple fanboys start comparing the sales figure of iPhone 4S to the Samsung Galaxy S II, they should remember that there are many other Android handsets which people buy. The iPhone 4S is the only handset running iOS5, while in the Android eco-system, there are nearly 10 dual-core powered handsets, available in different shapes and sizes, with or without 4G LTE support etc. A fair comparison is only possible if the sales figures of all the high-end Android handsets are collectively compared against the iPhone 4S sales figure.

Apple Stock at All Time High Following iPhone 4S Launch

Apple’s stock price was at its lowest in a month, right after Apple unveiled the iPhone 4S on October 4. Fans and investors, who were expecting a new iPhone 5, were disappointed when Apple launched only one device, the iPhone 4S. Its stock price dropped down to $357 right after the announcement.

However, the iPhone 4S sales figures were quite surprising. Apple ringed in more than a million pre-orders in the first 24 hours, and over 3 million pre-orders of the iPhone 4S in the first weekend after the announcement.

Today, its stock price hit an all-time high of $422, which is around 20% higher than its recent low of $357. It now has a market cap of around $391 billion, giving it a $11 billion lead over Exxon Mobil, which now has a market cap of just under $380 billion.

Apple Stock Price

Contrary to expectations, the news of Steve Jobs’ death didn’t push the stock price down. In fact, it has appreciated steadily since.

At this rate, Apple’s stock will soon breach the $500 billion market cap. I expect it to happen after Apple launches the iPad 3 and iPhone 5.

How To Access Notification Center in iOS5

Apple recently released the latest and probably the best iteration of iOS to , and users. If you haven’t updated yet to iOS5 you can find direct download links for iOS5 and instructions on how to upgrade to iOS5 through iTunes or manually. iOS5 has tons of new features, however, the best one I find is the new notification system which I think was inspired from .

Nevertheless, I am not here to start a feud on who copied whom but just talk about using the new Notification system in iOS5. First things first, the new notification system in iOS5 is pretty neat. However, not many people would be aware on how to use it just like creating folders in iOS and probably taking screenshots with an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.

First off, notifications will not pop up like it did in and earlier. They will be displayed more subtly on the lock screen as well as when you are logged into the device. Secondly, notifications will not popup when you are within an application or playing a game (this used to be quite annoying).

Last but not the least, all notifications will be clubbed together and will be available through a single swipe from the top to bottom. To access your notifications, you will have to swipe your finger from the top of the screen and drag it down.

ios5_messaging_center

Please note that the notification center is invisible. To access it just swipe your finger from top to bottom and it should display the Notification center where you can view all the notifications and take action on them.

To hide the notification center, just drag the tiles back up as shown in the image above and the notification center should be hidden. You can display and hide the notification center in any app you are using. This makes it really useful, because you can check your emails even while you are playing games.

How did you like the new notification system in iOS5? Is it good or bad?

Waiting in Line for an iPhone 4S with Steve Wozniak

Since Apple announced the iPhone 4S, there have been millions of pre-orders, but the thrill of getting your hands on a newly released iPhone by standing in line does not match that of receiving it through mail.

Our Apple Editor is waiting in line today to buy an 4S at the Apple store in Los Gatos, California, and he is second in line, the person who is first is someone who he often talks to. Guess who he is?  None other than the Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

Here are some pictures of our Apple Editor Parth Dhebar waiting in line to get his hands on a next to Steve Wozniak.

Apple Ups iPhone 4S Orders to 15 Million Following Huge Demand

When Apple unveiled the iPhone 4S, most of the tech enthusiasts I know let out a collective sigh. Everyone, including me, was hoping that Apple would launch an iPhone 5, but instead, Apple launched an upgraded version of the iPhone 4, which looked exactly like its predecessor.

However, the iPhone 4S is much powerful than the iPhone 4 when it comes to hardware, and its new AI assistant feature — Siri — is really impressive.

The iPhone 4S broke all of Apple’s previous records on the first day of pre-order availability, selling more than 1 million iPhone 4S units. Apparently, Apple underestimated the potential demand for the iPhone 4S too. It had ordered around 10 million units from Pegatron, its hardware partner in Taiwan earlier. A report in Digitimes states that Apple has now revised its iPhone 4S unit orders to 15 million, in anticipation of greater than expected sales.

Pegatron is also ramping up its manufacturing capacity, in anticipation of orders to manufacture the iPad 3 from Apple, which is expected to launch next year.

Looks like Apple is going to prove all the naysayers wrong. Again.

AppleCare+ Offer Extended to iPhone 4 and 4S Pre-orders Until Nov. 14

AppleCare+Apple not only  announced  a new iPhone last week, but also updated its AppleCare program for iPhone.  AppleCare+ for iPhone is a new  extended warranty service that combines tech support, software support, and the company’s first accidental plan.  Earlier, AppleCare used to be offered for $69, but the new $99 AppleCare+ for iPhone replaces that program. AppleCare+ extends an iPhone’s repair coverage and technical support to two years from the original purchase date but also adds coverage for up to two incidents of accidental damage due to an owner’s poor handling of the device.

Each accidental damage incident is subject to a $49 service fee (normally $199 or more for accidental damage repairs) and is available only for the iPhone and its included accessories. In addition, the company promises that customers taking advantage will receive either a new or refurbished iPhone.

Today,  TUAW reports that earlier they had received numerous e-mails from Apple’s customers asking how to add the warranty to an existing order (since AppleCare+ had to be purchased with the iPhone 4S purchase), but no definitive answer was available.  TUAW has received official word from Apple that if you did not get a chance to order AppleCare+ with your iPhone 4S or iPhone 4, Apple is extending the eligibility. The eligibility has been extended to November 14th.

Dear Apple Customer,

Thank you for your recent iPhone purchase at the Apple Online Store.

We would like to let you know that every iPhone comes with one year of hardware repair coverage through its limited warranty and up to 90 days of complimentary support. AppleCare+ for iPhone extends your coverage to two years from the original purchase date of your iPhone and adds up to two incidents of accidental damage coverage, each subject to a $49 service fee.

We noticed you weren’t given the opportunity to add AppleCare+ to your iPhone. If you would like to extend your coverage for only $99, please reply to this email.

Thank you for shopping with Apple.

Sincerely,
Apple Online Store Team

On Monday, Apple had announced that it had received a record one-million pre-orders for the iPhone 4S in the first 24 hours of availability. One order of a black 32GB iPhone 4S with a side order of AppleCare+, please!

Benchmarks of iPhone 4S Crush Galaxy S II’s in Every Way

In March 2011, Steve Jobs at the  iPad  2 event explained how technology just isn’t enough to create a quality product. It is a combination of hardware + software that makes a great product, and that held true for the  iPad  2. Once again, it has held true for the iPhone 4S. Yesterday, it was reported  that the iPhone 4S has just 512MB of RAM. Today, AnandTech reveals that the iPhone 4S’s A5 processor is clocked at 800 MHz, which is 73% faster than the iPhone 4.

AnandTech iPhone 4S benchmarks

The new figures also from AnandTech reveal that the iPhone 4S scores a Geekbench score of 623, easily beating the A4 processor found in the iPhone 4. Geekbench score is a method of measuring a system’s performance. In fact, the iPhone 4S processor is underclocked slower than the 1GHz A5 CPu found in the iPad 2, which earned a score of 751.

In terms of graphic processing, the iPhone 4S is seven times faster than the iPhone 4 (just like Apple claimed). One test shows that the iPhone 4S scored a 73.1 while the iPhone 4 took 11.2, and in another the iPhone 4S clocked a score of 122.7, compared to 15.3 for the iPhone. The GPU and CPU score for the iPhone 4S were a bit slower than the iPad 2, but also smoked the competition, including the Samsung Galaxy S II (1.2 GHz), Samsung Infuse 4G (1.2 GHz), and Motorola Droid Bionic (1 GHz), all of which feature processors with higher clock speeds than the iPhone 4S. In addition, while Android phones have 1GB or more of RAM to power the OS, the iPhone 4S  just  has 512MB RAM to power the world’s best OS and its features. Things might change when Ice Cream Sandwich arrives, but I’m skeptical (lol).

“At a lower operating frequency than its Android competitors, Apple does have to exploit its strengths in software to avoid any tangible performance penalties,” authors Anand Lai Shimpi and Brian Klug wrote. “Apple has traditionally done this very well in the past, so I don’t expect the loss of frequency to be a huge deal to the few who cross-shop iOS and Android.”

The iPhone 4S will launch this Friday, October 14th in the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom.

Can we stop comparing on hardware specs now?

18.8m iPhone 3GS Users Expected to Upgrade to Apple’s iPhone 4S

Last week, Apple  announced  a brand new version of its iPhone iPhone 4S.    The iPhone 4S features the new A5 processor, a redesigned antenna, an 8-megapixel camera that can shoot 1080p high-definition video, and supports AirPlay mirroring. People were expecting it to be the iPhone 5″ and folks weren’t expecting it to sell well. Since then, it has been a massive hit.  Reuters  reported  that AT&T is seeing an  extraordinary demandfor the new iPhone 4S, which became available for preorder at 12:01 am Pacific time on Friday, October 7th. AT&T revealed that  they have seen over 200,000 preorders for the iPhone 4S in the first 12 hours of sale. In addition, Apple announced  that the iPhone 4S sold one million preorders in its first 24 hours of availability (because they weren’t selling).

Piper iPhone 3GS 2011

Yesterday, it was reported by an analyst that Apple achieves a bill-of-materials cost of $170 for the 16GB iPhone 4S and $220 for the 32GB model. This means that Apple is making more per handset than any other smartphone manufacturer. Today,  Gene Munster with Piper Jaffray believes that most users who bought an iPhone 3GS before the iPhone 4 went on sale will make the upgrade in the next year. He estimates that  there are 27.6 million iPhone 3GS users who are ready to upgrade their smartphone. These numbers are based on of what he says  “several conservative assumptions” regarding sales and upgrades.

According to the report,  if 25 percent of those users upgraded early to the iPhone 4 and 15 percent switched platforms to Android, that would leave 18.8 million who would buy an iPhone 4S. This August,  Munster revealed the results of a small poll of 216 mobile phone users, in which he found a  near-perfect retention rate  among iPhone customers. Also, the survey found that  94 percent of current iPhone customers said that they expect to replace their iPhone with a better model in the future vs. switching to another platform like Android. This goes to show that iOS exists so that people can own a great smartphone, while Android exists so that anyone can make a smartphone. Guess, which one worries me?

Jaffray sees Apple selling  104.4 million iPhones in its 2012 fiscal year — that would be a 35 percent increase from 2011. He has also suggested a price target of $607 for Apple’s share price.

Apple’s iPhone 4S Includes 512 MB of RAM

It’s in Apple’s DNA that technology alone is not enough. That it’s technology married with liberal arts, married with the humanities, that yields us the result that makes our hearts sing.- Steve Jobs

In March 2011, Steve Jobs at the iPad 2 event explained how technology just isn’t enough to create a quality product. It is a combination of hardware + software that makes a great product, and that held true for the iPad 2. Once again, it has held true for the iPhone 4S. While Android phones have 1GB or more of RAM to power the OS, the iPhone 4S just has 512MB RAM to power the world’s best OS and its features.  The iPhone 4S features the new A5 processor, a redesigned antenna, an 8-megapixel camera that can shoot 1080p high-definition video, and supports AirPlay mirroring. For a phone that only has 512MB RAM and is still able to power so much is mind blowing.

iPhone 4S

Donald Mustard, creative director for Epic Games, recently said in an interview detailing Infinity Blade 2 that the iPhone 4S  will offer just 512 MB of RAM.

“I’m still shocked that, with the iPhone 4S, I’m literally running around with a 1080p video camera in my pocket, with an eight megapixel camera, 64GB of hard drive space and an A5 chip with  512MB  of memory. This is a really powerful computer, right?”

With the move to Apple’s A5 chip and dual-core graphics, the iPhone 4S’s is now largely mirroring that of the iPad 2 and Apple’s philosophy, which also contains 512MB of RAM.

The iPhone 4S will launch this Friday, October 14th in the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom.
