Jailbreak For iPhone/iPad Running iOS 4.3.1 Released

The iPhone Dev. Team has just released a new jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1, about which we reported a couple of days ago.

The new jailbreak is an untethered one, unlike the previous jailbreak released for iOS 4.3.1. The new jailbreak supports iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3G/4G, Apple TV 2G and iPad 1 running on the latest version of iOS.

The jailbreak is also available for all Windows and Mac owners via Redsn0w or PwnageTool. Readers can download the application from here.

iPhone 4 owners, who have unlocked their handsets using Ultrasn0w, need to wait until an updated version of the app comes out. Right now, Ultrasn0w unlock is incompatible with iOS 4.3.1.

Sadly, iPad 2 owners need to wait for a jailbreak, until a boot rom level exploit is found for their device.

Incidentally, the first version of PwnageTool was released on this very day, three years ago!

Tethered Jailbreak For iPhone 4 and iPad Running iOS 4.3.1 Released

Apple released the iOS 4.3.1 a couple of days ago, to address battery life issues and graphical glitches with iPod Touch.

Now, within a day of its release, iOS 4.3.1 has been jailbroken by DjayB6. Sadly, the jailbreak is a tethered’ one at the moment. This means iTouch device owners will need to jailbreak their device, every time they reboot it.

iTouch_Jailbreak

As of now, the iOS 4.3.1 tethered’ jailbreak will only work for the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3G/4G, Apple TV 2G and iPad.

Owners of the latest generation Apple’s tablet, iPad 2, will have to wait for some more time before a jailbreak comes out for their device. Until then, they are recommended not to update their iOS version to 4.3.1.

Also, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 owners who have unlocked their handset using Ultrasn0w are recommended not to update to iOS 4.3.1. If they do so, their baseband version will be upgraded and they will lose the network unlock. The tethered’ jailbreak is only available for Mac OS X based PCs.

Hopefully, a Windows version will be released soon. The steps to jailbreak your iTouch device running iOS 4.3.1 can be found here.

Enable Multi-Touch Gestures On iPhone/iPad Running iOS 4.3 Using Sn0wbreeze

Today morning, iOS hacker iH8sn0w has released an updated version of his application sn0wbreeze which brings some nifty features for iOS device owners.

The latest beta of sn0wbreeze brings with it hosts of performance improvements and bug fixes.

The beta also adds an option to enable multi-touch gestures for iTouch devices running iOS 4.3. Yes, the same multi-touch gestures which were first introduced by Apple in the iOS 4.3 betas, which were seeded to developers.

Below is a video showing the multi-touch gestures :

However, these handy multi-touch gestures were dropped from the final version of iOS 4.3.

sn0wbreeze allows iOS owners to jailbreak their iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4 and the iPad 1/2. Readers can simply download sn0wbreeze from here and follow the on-screen instructions on how to jailbreak their device.

However, the app will only tether’ jailbreak your iTouch device running iOS 4.3, which means that the jailbreak will be lost once a user restarts his iTouch device.

Hopefully, the next major update of the iOS will bring these handy multi-touch gestures to all iTouch devices. Until then, iTouch owners can use sn0wbreeze to activate these hidden multi-touch gestures.

White iPhone 4 To Be Available This Spring!

Apple launched the iPhone 4 at WWDC in 2010. Back then; the company announced the latest generation iPhone in two colors – black and white.

While the black color version of the iPhone 4 was available from day one, the white version was scheduled to release sometime in summer. However, as luck would have it, the white version of the iPhone was again delayed to Spring 2011.

Apple stated that the reason behind the delay of the white iPhone 4 was due to some manufacturing problems. Nevertheless, Apple has finally managed to solve the manufacturing problems, and the white version of the iPhone 4 will be finally available in Spring 2011.

Philip Schiller, Vice President of Apple’s worldwide product marketing, confirmed that the white iPhone 4 would be hitting the Apple stores this spring, on Twitter.

I do understand that many people were eagerly awaiting the availability of the white iPhone 4. However, it has been nearly a year since the iPhone 4 was launched, and with the iPhone 5 just around the corner, I doubt that the white iPhone 4 will get many takers!

64 GB iPhone 4 Prototype Leaked

iPhone 4 64 GBImages of a leaked iPhone 4 prototype were posted to a technology blog today. No, I haven’t gone back in time and I’m not referring to the Gizmodo iPhone 4 fiasco.

Today, a 64 GB iPhone 4 prototype was unearthed in Shenzhen, China from a Foxconn factory. Apparently, Apple was working on three models of the iPhone with storage capacities of 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB, but decided to ship only the first two.

MICGadget has posted images of the 64 GB iPhone 4 on its blog and has confirmed that it is indeed a legit prototype and not some counterfeit iPhone. It is very similar to the iPhone 4 prototype bought by Gizmodo last year and runs iOS 4.1. It has the model number – 995-6049LL and offers 59.1 GB of storage.

It is not SIM-locked and isn’t available for sale anywhere. This particular model was obtained from source who has a few of these.

This prototype seems to indicate that the iPhone 5, which will be launched in a few months, will likely offer a 64 GB version.

iOS 4.3 Introduces Photo Booth, iPad 2 Gets Facetime

As expected, along with the iPad 2, Apple also unveiled iOS 4.3 today. Apple sold as many as 15 million tablets in 2010 and single-handedly kick-started a new genre of devices. In spite of being initially ridiculed for its seeming lack of functionality, the iPad “flummoxed” everyone, and went on to become one of the most desirable gadgets of 2010. One of the most significant contributors to the iPad’s success was its specially crafted iOS, which made the pre-Honeycomb Android tablets look ungainly. With iOS 4.3, Apple is moving on to the next level.

iOS-4.3-New-Features

Multimedia is clearly the biggest area of focus in iOS 4.3. The iPad 2 features a front as well as a rear camera. In order to take advantage of them, Apple has ported its popular Photo Booth app. Like its desktop counterpart, Photo Booth for iPad will ship with dozens of fun effects, all of which can be previewed in real-time. Also included is Facetime – Apple’s popular video chatting application, which is already available for iPhone, iPad and Mac.

iOS-4.3-Photo-Booth

The new operating system for iPad also makes it easier to share content with other devices. Airplay, which offers an intuitive and easy way to stream photos, videos and audio to Apple TVs, speakers and other devices, has been improved and opened up to 3rd party apps. iTunes home sharing, which lets you stream and transfer multimedia content with up to five other devices on your local network, is now supported in iOS.

If you own an iPhone, you will be pleased to know that the OS update will add support for personal hotspot. This means that if you don’t have access to a Wi-Fi connection, you can share your iPhone’s connection with your iPad. This is undoubtedly a pretty neat feature. However, in typical Apple fashion, it has been restricted to the iPhone 4.

On the web browsing front, there is good news in the form of an improved Nitro JavaScript engine, which should give a speed boost to Safari. Apple has also partially backtracked on its decision to change the orientation lock switch into a mute button. In the updated iOS, the user will be able to choose what he wants to use the button for.

As previously confirmed by Apple, the new four and five finger multi-touch gestures seen in the iOS 4.3 beta have been removed from the the final release build. It’s not clear if they will be included in future builds, since Apple has stated that they only wanted to collect developer feedback on those gestures.

Just as expected, there are quite a few significant improvements in iOS 4.3, but nothing that is mind-blowing. This point update is more about evolution than revolution. iOS 4.3 for the iPad, iPhone (GSM) and the iPod will be released on March 11.

PwnageTool 4.2 Released for Untethered iOS 4.2.1 Jailbreak/Unlock and iBooks Fix

The Dev Team has released an update for the popular PwnageTool which will jailbreak and unlock iOS 4.2.1 on 3G, 3GS, , iPhone 4-Verizon, 3G, , and AppleTV 2G.

The new PwnageTool 4.2 consists of a untethered jailbreak for all the above devices. In addition to allows users to jailbreak their devices, iPhone unlockers can also restore to a custom 4.2.1 IPSW and retain their current baseband and unlock. PwnageTool currently does not support iPod Touch 2G.

Well in the case of an HFS volume name on iOS, an untether exploit — as the Chronic Dev Team revealed last week with an untether for the 4.2.1 jailbreak, which had previously been a tethered JB for most recent devices since 4.2.1’s release in November.  With their permission, we’ve incorporated their 4.2.1 feedfaceuntether into today’s PwnageTool 4.2.  This means iPhone unlockers can safely restore to a custom 4.2.1 pre-jailbroken IPSW and retain their current baseband and unlock.  PwnageTool also supports all the other 4.2.1 devices other than iPod touch 2G:

PwnageTool also pushes a fix for iBooks by @comex and @pushfix which fixes a bug so that it works as intended with DRM books along with fixing a WiFi problem on Apple TV 2G. All these updates will be available in the Cydia package updates.

For more information on the PwnageTool 4.2 release, and the download links visit the official Dev Team Blog.

Jailbreak iPhone 3GS/iPhone 4/iPad Running iOS 4.2.1 Using GreenPois0n

Up until now, iOS4.2.1 users could only tether’ jailbreak their iTouch device. A tethered’ jailbreak is a temporary jailbreak and will last only until a reboot. After rebooting, the jailbreak will be lost and the user will again need to jailbreak his iTouch using a PC/Mac. Now, the Chronic Dev. Team has finally released a tethered jailbreak for iTouch devices running iOS4.2.1.

GreenPois0n_Logo

Today, the Chronic Dev. Team tool GreenPois0n was updated to RC5 which will allow users to jailbreak their iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3G/4G and the iPad running on iOS 4.2.1. Unlike Redsn0w, users don’t need SHSH blobs of any previous iOS version to jailbreak. Users, who already have tethered’ jailbroken their iTouch, can directly use GreenPois0n to jailbreak their device.

iPhone 4 owners who are new to the jailbreaking scene and have unlocked their device are recommended to stay away from this jailbreak. They may accidentally update their baseband while updating to iOS 4.2.1 thus losing their unlock. They are suggested to use TinyUmbrella to preserve their baseband whilst upgrading to iOS 4.2.1.

Sadly, at the moment GreenPois0n is only available for Mac. A PC and Windows version is in the pipeline and should be coming soon. Mac owners simply need to download GreenPois0n from here and follow the on-screen instructions.
